PENTECOST SUNDAY MAY 20, 2018
FROM THE PASTOR
My Dear Parishioners,
Praised be Jesus Christ and Happy Pentecost! This week, we welcome to our parish the Lile Sisters of the Poor and Msgr. David Diamond. The Lile Sisters are familiar to many of us here at St. Patrick. For many years now, they have made an annual visit to us, sharing their good work and ministry to the elderly poor. And you have shared with them so very generously. The Lile
Sisters have nursing homes in Newark, Delaware and Philadelphia not to menon to places throughout the world. And they do a “hidden but good work”, caring for the elderly. In recent years, the Lile Sisters have gained a rather public notoriety as they were the target of a health care policy that was violang their religious liberty. Indeed, it violated OUR religious liberty. The Sisters stood strong and confronng this direct aack and giving witness not only to their work but to Jesus. As God would have it, God used that public witness well. Today, the Sisters are a well-known, well respected and a power-house of God’s Love in this world.
Msgr. David Diamond, well, he may not be as well known to you, but I hope he will be by the end of this week. Msgr. Diamond is pastor of St. Cornielius Church in Chadds Ford and he will be with us Sunday, Monday and Tuesday for our Forty Hours Devoons. Msgr. Diamond has served as Vice Rector and Dean and spent much of his priesthood in academic sengs. He is a well-respected teacher, educator and priest. I consider him not only a talented preacher but a friend and I’m certain that he will be a blessing to all who hear him. I strongly encourage you to come to our 40 Hours Devoon this week, it’ll be a mini-retreat for our parish and can be a me of blessing for you.
Speaking of blessing, I would like to acknowledge three people who have been a great blessing to our parish family and offer my public thanks/congratulaons:
1) Tom Petragani. Our 7:30AM Mass people know Tom as the violinist at Mass, others perhaps know Tom through his family, his work or his years here at the parish. Tom will be “rering” from playing the 7:30AM Mass and I want to publicly thank him for literally stepping up each weekend into the choir lo to serve us.
2) Mary Kerr. When I arrived at St. Patrick’s three years ago, Mary introduced herself to me and asked to be involved in the parish. Lile did she know, that I would take her up on her offer and lile did I know that we would be so blessed by her work. In those three quick years, Mary spear-headed our parish involvement with Family Promise, she developed our Parish Nursing Program and has assisted in establishing our Reach More Iniave. Mary is moving away shortly and I want to thank her for her fine work to so many. Her move is a big loss to our parish but her witness has inspired others and others are stepping up. Thank You, Mary!!!
3) Finally, I take this opportunity to congratulate Deacon Jim Madonna. This year marks Deacon Madonna’s 30th Anniversary as a Deacon. Over those years, he has served as a steady, stable and faithful witness of Jesus to our parish community. In my short me here as pastor, he has not only been source of encouragement and help but has been a wealth of informaon about the parish. From day one, he has assisted me in coming to know who’s who and has become a friend. On behalf of all our families and our enre family of St. Patrick, I want to thank Deacon Madonna for being such a wonderful Deacon at St. Patrick for 30 Years! Ad Multos Annos!
Peace,
Fr. Rogers
Our parish’s Annual Forty Hours Devoon begins Sunday, May 20 thru Tuesday, May 22. Msgr. David Diamond, pastor of St. Cornelius in
Chadds Ford, will be our homilist at Evening Prayer each evening at 7:00PM. Please mark your calendars for this grace filled me. 236

Something to think about: Someone is praying for the life you take for granted.
FAITH FORMATION PENTECOST SUNDAY
SHARE THE FAITH
Did you ever consider sharing the faith with someone else? Could you invite someone you know who is not Catholic, but who just might be interested, to consider looking into the Catholic faith by parcipang in the RCIA process. RCIA is short for Rite of Chrisan Iniaon for Adults and children. It offers people of all ages an opportunity to learn more about Jesus Christ, the teachings of the Catholic Church and the life of Christ shared and enriched through the Sacra-ments. Perhaps someone in your family is not a Catholic– a spouse, a brother or sister-in-law or some other person, per-haps a friend you know whom you think God is calling to a deeper relaonship with Him through the Catholic Church. You are encouraged to call the Office of Religious Educaon at 610-444-2214. Be an Apostle: invite someone to “come and see” if our faith is what they are looking for in their life. There will be an Open House on June 8 at 7:00PM at the parish office located on Lafayee Street.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Do you remember that evenul day when your child was consecrated to God in a special way, received the gi of God’s presence in her/his soul and made a member of Christ’s Body, the Church? The celebrant asked “What do you ask of God’s Church?” and you replied, “Bapsm.” To this the celebrant stated “You have asked to have your child bapzed in doing so you are accepng the responsibility of training her/him in the pracce of the faith. It will be your duty to bring her/him up to keep God’s commandments as taught by charst, by loving God and neighbor. Do you un-derstand what you are undertaking?”
The parents of the child are the first and primary teachers of faith. They teach by example as well as by word. They teach the first prayers, talk about the goodness of God and at an appropriate age bring them to Sunday Mass.
Here at St. Patrick we provide children’s faith formaon where the mystery of God and His love for us are unpacked in greater detail and the vocaon of living a true Chrisan life is strengthened. For those among us who do not have children enrolled in a Catholic school, we strongly urge you to enlist your child in the Parish Religious Educaon Program (PREP). In doing so you will connue to fulfill your promise you made on your child’s Bapsm Day.
Take advantage of the early incenve. Aer June 15 regular tuion prices will increase $50.00. Classes fill early so sign up now. Forms can be found on our parish website. Call Mari-anne Kane for more informaon at 610-444-2214.
