John Armstrong, 72, entered the presence of our Lord on April 1, 2020. After struggling the last few years with debilitating medical issues (Frontotemporal Dementia and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), he passed away peacefully in Mansfield, TX, with his wife Suzanne by his side. As a devout Christian, he fought the good fight, finished the race and always kept a strong faith. John was a loving husband, Dad and “Papa John” to his 9 grandchildren. It was easy to see his love of God, family, and Baylor. He always looked for ways to make life fun and exciting. He will be remembered for his loyalty to his friends, his devotion to his church and his passion for art. He enjoyed serving on many mission trips to Mexico. As an accomplished artist, he had showings in galleries throughout the Metroplex. John loved his country and the flag; he never missed an opportunity to thank military for their service. He spent many years as an avid golfer and a passionate supporter of Baylor football. He loved his Baylor teammates and for years hosted golf tournaments and cookouts at his home. He also enjoyed motorcycling throughout the country with friends. Because of his unique ability to draw everyone in and make them feel welcomed; John made sure he shared a firm handshake, looked people directly in the eye and made everyone feel valued. John was born in Laurel, Mississippi, on January 3, 1948. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1966, attended Baylor on a football scholarship and graduated in 1970 with a Business Degree. He was a successful owner of several companies. The most fun job he had was building racquetball courts. But the most rewarding job he had was as a Landman and RightofWay agent. John is survived by family: wife Suzanne (Suzanne Hartline, Baylor 1970); Kate Thompson, Ojai, CA (Kyle, children: Jasper, Sagan); Emily Snelling, Coppell, TX (Tim, children: Ryan, Madison); Kyle Mohon, Southlake, TX (Jennifer, children: Hannah, Preston); Cameron Mohon, Frisco, TX (Missy, children: Miley, Heath, Tanner); Brother Dan Armstrong, Santa Fe, NM (Becky), Sister Jan DeNeve, Ft. Collins, CO (Ric) and numerous nieces who loved “Uncle Johnny” dearly. John was also known for his generosity and his final act of kindness was donating his body to UT Southwest Medical Center for research. Announcement of celebration of life is pending. Memorials may be made to MealsonWheels.org, juntosservimos.org
