MANY HAVE CALLED THE DESIGN OF THESANDTON CONVENTION CENTRE AN ICONICWORK OF ART, AND FOR GOOD REASON.Architecture and Design

This twelve-storey structure wasexpertly designed to provideconvention, exhibition and specialevent space over four main levels.It combines spectacular double-and triple-volume use of interiorspace in its main and public areas,with smaller and more intimatebreak-away meeting rooms andgalleries on its mezzanine levels.

Its extensive glass frontage createsan open, inviting façade fromwhich delegates can view the world.Twenty six escalators ensure theflow of people in this generousspace. The main foyers and severalof the meeting rooms enjoynatural daylight… and excellentbalance, while the terraces andbalconies offer guests anopportunity to enjoy nature duringconference breaks.

The building has also beendesigned to accommodate andprovide access for disabled visitors.

Earthy Interiors

The warm natural colours anddistinctive textures and shapes ofthe African landscape have beentranslated into a moderndecorative idiom.

The Sandton Convention Centreboasts relaxed yet sophisticatedinteriors which are inspired by theEarth, and are proudly SouthAfrican in every way.

The Art Collection

Simple, uncluttered interiorfinishes form the idealbackground to a substantialcollection of authentic SouthernAfrican art.

Over a hundred pieces are ondisplay on the public levels. The sophisticated ambience of the magnificent triple-volume Ballroomis created by its vast uninterrupted space married to immense hand-woven wall coverings. This main hall is suitable for grand occasions,such as formal dinners and large conferences and events.

Mobile interior partitioning allows the Sandton Convention Centre toadapt to a variety of different seating and size configurations. All interiorwalls are sound-proof, so that more than one event can bestaged simultaneously.

Our trademark is creativity and innovation, so whether it’s an ambitious audio-visual productionor a highly focused presentation to a small audience – we always make your needs our priority.

Adaptability, technology and the range of facilities make the Sandton Convention Centre the most versatilevenue Southern Africa has to offer.

The Ballroom can hostformal dinners for up to1500 guests or provide aconference venue for2400 delegates in cinemaseating or 1100 delegatesin schoolroom seating.

Meetings and Receptions

The Bill Gallagher Room

Named after one of South Africa’s most celebrated chefs, The BillGallagher Room will accommodate 500 guests for cocktails, 250 dinersat a banquet, or 240 delegates in schoolroom seating.

Glass doors open onto a generous balcony, where guests can enjoy thetemperate Gauteng climate during daytime or evening events. Thislocation has proved a firm favourite for breakfasts, weddings andfamily celebrations.

Boardrooms

The several boardrooms adjacent to The Ballroom and The Bill GallagherRoom can be arranged to accommodate differing numbers of guests,from as few as 10 to as many as 180. The settings can be traditionaland business-like, or informal and relaxed.

Committee Rooms

The Committee Rooms can be set up in various configurations formeetings large or small. The versatility of these rooms allows for easyaccess and a variety of set ups, for example an impromptu pressconference in a private venue can be created almost instantaneously.

Exhibitions

This establishment is located in the area with the highest visitorattendance ‘draw factor’ in South Africa... and for good reason.

The Sandton Convention Centre’s two exhibition levels have a combinedfloor space of 10 000m2, which will accommodate 500 3m x 3m standsin various configurations. Each level has a separate access route tostreet level docking and loading areas.

Exhibition 1 and 2

Any and every resource necessary for a successful and spectacularexhibition is available in these two exhibition halls:

Exhibition 1 offers you 5 430m2 of floor space, while Exhibition 2 comesin at 5 050m2, but has the added advantage of an adjacent, between-levels restaurant gallery overlooking it from one side.

Ceiling height is 6,5m in both halls, and the ceilings provide access toample overhead rigging fixtures and electrical points. Both sections areair-conditioned.

A non-intrusive system of pillars, set at 18m intervals, bring servicessuch as water, wet waste, normal and three-phase electrical power, andtelecom links (including digital, analogue and ISDN lines) to bothexhibition halls. Floor hatches spaced every 9m also give access to theseservices, and any number of them can be interconnected.

NO VENUE IS BETTER PLACED FOR EXHIBITIONSTHAN THE SANDTON CONVENTION CENTRE.

The Pavilion offers 4664m2 of floor space, conveniently serviced byheavy-duty freight elevators, which facilitate the transportation of alltypes of seating, sound and stage equipment. Sturdy catwalks, overheadrigging and ample power are all in place to support the very latest intheatre and audio technology.

The entire area rests on a specially engineered ‘floating’ floor, whichsubstantially enhances audio acoustic quality and ensures that the event,the loudest concerts, and the most enthusiastic fans will not be heardon lower levels.

The Pavilion also boasts various artists’ dressing rooms convenientlylocated in the back passage of the venue, allowing for easy access forstage production shows.
