CLUBS

VillageWalk CERT Our next meeting is

November 15th at 6:00 p.m.

CERT is a group of community volunteers trained by our local fire department to be first responders in emergency situations such as hurricanes and tornadoes. The team is activated by Bonita Springs Fire and Rescue during such emergencies.

We meet the second Wednesday of each month at the Town Center. We discuss plans for emergency situations and refresh our training to enable us to better function as a team. We always seek more volunteers to better address emergency events. Residents interested in joining should contact Nicole Hornberger at Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue, phone (239) 949-6227, email [email protected].

If you would like more information or have any questions, please email [email protected].

The Cancer Crusaders The Cancer Crusaders are a group of Village Walk cancer survivors and friends who are dedicated to helping find a cure for cancer, to supporting organizations that provide services to cancer patients, and to reaching out to those in Village Walk who have been touched by cancer.

We offer a forum for those who have been impacted by cancer - survivors, caregivers, and anyone who would like to be involved. We offer support, information, or just a few words of encouragement from “someone who has been there.”

Additionally, we support Komen for the Cure of Southwest Florida with a fundraising event held in the fall and with team participation in the Race for the Cure held annually in March. We also support the American Cancer Society with fundraising events and participation in the Relay For Life of Bonita Springs-Estero in early spring

If you would like to be involved with our group, you may contact: Caryl Rumble, 239-390-5032, [email protected]; Kelley Short, 239-250-6375, [email protected]; Jan Forster, 617-257-0934, [email protected].

HOOKED ON BOOKS I WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2017We will meet at 1:00 p.m. in the Hibiscus Room at the Town Center to discuss “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles with Nina Irraggi leading the discussion. In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.Please call Dorothy at 390-9417 if you want to be put on our waiting list.

HOOKED ON BOOKS IITHURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2017Members will meet at 6:00 p.m. (optional) for our PREFACE “get together” with our regular meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m. ( Town Center’s HIBISCUS ROOM). We will be discussing Nina George’s THE LITTLE PARIS BOOKSHOP, to be led by Sally.“Internationally best seller, filled with warmth and adventure,THE LITTLE PARIS BOOK SHOP is a love letter to books, meant for anyone who believes in the power of stories to shape people’s lives.”HOB II has a waiting list for those who wish to join. Please contact Michele Cudnik to be placed on the list, and also FOR THOSE MEMBERS WHO WISH TO RSVP at: [email protected].

HOOKED ON BOOKS lll WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2017Welcome back snowbirds and all of us that experienced Irma!We will meet in the Hibiscus Room at the Town Center at 1:00 p.m. to discuss “My Name is Lucy Barton” by Elizabeth Stout with the discussion led by Barbara Bartels. Please RSVP to [email protected] to allow for set up of seating at least five days prior to each meeting.We will vote on whether we are going to have a meeting in December with a selection or just get together for a gathering to nibble and enjoy each other’s company in the form of a potluck.I rethought the birthday book suggestion idea and I believe that we need to consider that although suggestions are great, we need to limit them to the people that are actively participating in the months that their book is chosen. It is not a matter of having to lead the discussion, we simply want the input of the person that has chosen the book to gain valuable insight.We have great suggestions lined up for January and February so bring your titles and be able to share them. We look forward to seeing you then!

Model Sailing ClubThe objectives of the MSC-VW are to encourage and promote the building, sailing and racing of model sailboats. Currently the club sails Laser model boats from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. on Thursdays and Dragon Flight model boats from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. on Saturdays. Come by to try one out or just to watch. Members vary in sailing experience from never having sailed to seasoned sailors who may have never used a Radio Control. We welcome additional members, limited to residents of Village Walk. A membership may consist of an individual or a family living in the same Village Walk household. Request for membership may be made on a MSC-VW club application, giving contact information and a description of the model sailboat(s) owned or planned for. Happy Sailing!

• Please do NOT ride bikes or skateboards on the Town Center walkways. Signs are posted which list the restrictions. These walkways are pedestrian pathways only. Please be mindful of the restrictions; they are in place to protect all our residents.

• Golf carts and bicycle riders MUST give an audible warning when approaching pedestrians. Please SLOW down and pass with care.

• Pedestrians have the absolute right of way at CROSSWALKS. Vehicles must STOP when anyone is within a crosswalk. We have many that have no signs. Be prepared to suddenly stop.

• Please come to a complete STOP at Stop signs. That applies to bicycle riders too, who must obey ALL traffic laws.

• All Golf Carts must be registered with the HOA office, insured and only driven by licensed drivers over the age of 16.

• Please do not feed ANY animals. Do not place trash out any earlier than the morning of pick up…it attracts animals.

• Use Caution while kayaking and canoeing in our waterways. Remember, swimming is not allowed.

UPCOMING BOARD MEETINGSDecember 5th at 1:30 p.m.

The HOA Office wishes a Happy and SAFE Thanksgiving to all VillageWalk residents! The office holiday hours are as follows: closed Thursday November 23 and Friday November 24. We will return to regular office hours on Monday November 27th. We wish you joy during this wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Please note: In case of an emergency, please contact our after-hours emergency number: 239-261-3440: this answering service will relay emergency messages to the Town Manager. Please give the answering service your name, address, phone number and the nature of your emergency. The Town Manager will contact you once the message has been received.

Comcast Fiber Optic Upgrade Install Has BegunMonday through Friday, Comcast will be in VillageWalk working on the fiber optic upgrades to residents’ homes. Comcast will need access to the interior of each residence to do the upgrade install. There will not be any scheduled appointments for the wiring. This process will take approximately 35-40 minutes for each home. To be clear, they will be bringing the fiber optic dropline to where your wireless gateway is currently. If there are possible obstacles such as large furniture, mirrored walls, firewall breaks, concrete walls and etc., Comcast will determine a location for a separate receptacle.

They cannot make changes while they are there. You will have to contact Comcast directly to schedule any changes. As we receive updates from Comcast, the HOA will be sending updated notices via Email Blasts of the street areas that they will be working on. Please be sure to check your email to receive the updates.

For all residents who cannot be at home during the initial installation, including seasonal residents, Comcast will return and install the fiber optic lines at a later scheduled date (to be determined).

A BIG THANK YOUOn September 10th, when Hurricane Irma left her mark on VillageWalk of Bonita Springs, it will never be forgotten. The HOA would like to recognize all the amazing things that arose in reaction to Irma’s wrath. Thank you to all those residents that brought meals, donated items & food and looked out for the good of their fellow neighbors. It was wonderful to be a part of a community that pulled together

General Updates• Regarding the East Fence, we are still working with the insurance company. Please note we will be removing and replacing with something comparable. At

this time, a decision has not been made.

• Hurricane Season ends November 30th. All hurricane shutters must be down by this date.

• Residents may begin their Holiday decorating during Thanksgiving weekend. However, the decorations placed on lawns or in beds or on trees are placed at the residents own risk: neither the HOA nor any vendors providing maintenance to the community shall be held responsible for damages to any items placed outside the unit. All decorations must be removed on or before January 10th.

GUINIVERE WAY STREET GET TOGETHER

IRMA BROUGHT OUT THE BEST OF VILLAGE WALKEd Gray - Tiger Barb Way

A big bad wolf named IRMA came,Last week, to blast our town;

Along with rain, it huffed and puffed,To blow our houses down.

This hurricane and all it’s stress,Arrived without an equal;

But what shone through for Village Walk,Arose among our people.

We all felt stress in such a surge,It can’t be minimized;

Concern for others also came…It sure was emphasized.

In times of need, the urge to help,Is what we feel the most;

As we reach out, our empathy,Comes in its largest dose.

In stressful times like hurricanes,We all get such a lift;

To help our friends and neighbors is,Like giving each a gift.

This gift of caring makes us feel,Somewhat like Christmas elves;The best way we help others is,

The giving of ourselves.

THANKS TO EVERYONE…WE ALL GOT THROUGH IRMA BETTER

BECAUSE OF EACH OTHER
