Positives of Tanning Tanning seems to be tabooed as a highly negative activity to take part in. It is
associated with a higher skin cancer risk and an orange tint to those who participate in it. However, tanning is not completely negative. When the practice of tanning is regulated and balanced, it can provide positive effects for your health and well-‐ being. Tanning beds use UV lighting to darken your skin. This is the type of light that is often associated with skin cancer. A small dosage of exposure to this light can actually reduce health issues such as eczema, psoriasis, and other skin issues. The issues can go into remission, but the use of the tanning bed should be medically supervised. When tanning to try to clear up skin problems, it is recommended to speak to a doctor first to get his/her approval. It is important for the body to produce vitamin D. Sunlight exposure is
a great way for the body to obtain this vitamin, but a lot of the time people do not get enough sun exposure due to climate and weather. This therefore means these people do not create enough vitamin D. Tanning beds are a great way to get exposure to the light that enables your body to create vitamin D. This benefit also requires regulation in order for it to be considered safe. If the thought of UV light terrifies you but you still want to have a nice glow, there are tanning beds that have other solutions. Some apply spray-‐on tans that have no association with UV lighting at all. This method of tanning does not require regulation like the UV method does. The taboo on tanning seems to be a bit exaggerated in general. As long as the tanning is regulated and not over-‐used, the body actually gains benefits from it.
