JMA Meeting Minutes

1) Apologies for Absence- Mariel Richards, Dan Bartholomew, Charlotte Mykura, LouisGibson, James McAulay, Geni Corbett.

2) Invitation to Formal at High Table on 8th February- Ellie to email Paul Chirico aboutthe fact that the whole JMA wasnt invited.

3) Snooker Table Request from last week- Bursar says the college dont have space andproviding a snooker table at one persons request would result in more people wanting

things and expecting to get them.

4) College Regulation Changes- Meeting at half 11 next Thursday and the committeeneed a JMA representative. Rachel CP put herself forward.

5) Fine Art Committee- manage the paintings owned by Fitz, gardens etc This committeeneeds a representative. Mariels name was put forward however she was not at the meeting

so this needs to be confirmed.

6) Survey Monkey- Fitz has a subscription to survey monkey. The Bursar was going to cancelit as no one uses it to send out surveys to the college and at 24 a month it was deemed

unnecessary. The JMA agreed to approve the cancellation.

7) Formals- Buttery is changing due to the new catering manager, who has suggested thatformal hall solely be Wednesdays and Fridays as not many people go on a Monday. It also

doesnt work out with staff numbers. The JMA were unsure, but suggested some support.

Also in regards to guests/societies who ask for lots of tickets to a formal hall but they are not

at Fitz they still get subsidised prices. The JMA was asked whether this should be changed. It

was suggested that removing the subsidies would discourage people coming to Fitz Formals

and subsidised prices are better than no one attending. There was a general consensus

among the JMA for a need of more information i.e. how much tickets were subsidised etc

8) Fresher Accommodation Blocks- Bursar has agreed that fresher rooms dont needbathrooms but renovating is needed such as new carpet, lighter rooms, renovating

wardrobes. Target and Access officers were asked to canvas the opinion of people looking

around Fitz and to report this back to Ellie.

9) JMA Resignation- David Leahy (social steward) has resigned and therefore according toJMA rules, to fill his position we need an election and have to give 7 days notice to the

college. The provisional date is next Thursday and voting will occur the next few days after

that.

10)MCR Formal- President John Muller wants a bring your own undergraduate formaldinner however the JMA were not keen on this idea. N.B. 4 MCR members have resigned

over his presidency. It was suggested that perhaps a formal could be arranged next term

after the MCR elections.

11)Showing of the film Milk during February for LBGT- Gavin to talk to the portersabout booking the lecture theatre 2 weeks in advance. February is LBGT awareness month

and includes multiple events organised by CUSU.

12)Fairtrade Superhall- Amber emailed the Dean about superhall however has received noreply as of yet. She will email again if he has not replied in a week.

13)Missing Sports Equipment- a 12.5kg dumbbell has been taken from the gym. Althoughthe Bursar is prepared to replace it through the equipment fund, it would be preferable if we

could find it. Also if people keep dropping the heavy weights in the gym, floor replacement

will be needed unless alternative mats are bought to protect the floor.

14)Bop for Geography Dinner on the 10

th

February- Rachel needs some people to set

up and set down equipment. If JMA members are free they must help. Also there is a Fitz

session on 17th

February.

15)Housing Ballot- Ballot forms go out in the week of 13th February then the actual ballot ishappening at the end of February-24

th. Therefore on the 25

th/26

ththe first lot of people will

choose and then the next week freshers choose if it hasnt sorted out by then. No New

Neale houses for undergraduates this year, replaced by houses on Oxford Road. New Neale

houses will be graduate houses. Ellie will try and make sure new Oxford Road houses are 29

week contracts. Rent negotiations going on next week. 39 week houses generally need to be

looked at- 1000 more per year.

16)JCR Hill College Formal- Only various people have been contacted, perhaps JMAmembers should get in contact with their equivalent at Churchill or Murray Edwards.
