ONE- Day Workshop on “Bio-signals & Systems : Pragmatic Implementations”
(BSSPI 2019) on 22.10.2019
Biomedical Engineering Department is not only one of the oldest departments of JISCE, Kalyani
but also it is a unique department which has been offering courses on highly interdisciplinary
subject like Biomedical Engineering in B. Tech. program. Here, the students are provided with
high end academic as well as technical knowledge to work in medical device industry in order
to solve various clinical problems as well as to train the doctors, nurses and therapists in using
different kinds of medical equipment. It is very important for every biomedical engineer to
have preliminary knowledge of the hardware and software technologies capable of detecting
the earliest signs of disease as a front-line defense.
Keeping in mind the motto of the domain, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, JISCE
has organized One Day WORKSHOP on “BIO-SIGNAL S & SYSTEMS: PRAGMATIC
IMPLEMENTATIONS” (BSSPI-2019) on 22nd October 2019 in the College Campus with a
sole aim of giving an exposure to the students about the advanced bio-signal processing
techniques and its impact and implementation for extracting information that can be used to
understand the underlying physiological mechanisms of a specific biological event or system
which may be useful for medical diagnosis.
The program started with a key-note address from HOD-BME, JISCE followed by the Resource
Person of BSSPI-2019 – Dr. Anwesha Khasnobish Scientist, TCS Research &
Innovation Lab and B.Tech BME Alumnus (2009 pass out Batch).
Main objective was to highlight the various technologies that are used in modern days in
Biomedical Signal Acquisition & Processing Domain to the students of B.Tech BME 2nd , 3rd and
4th year, JISCE- Kalyani. She imparted knowledge to strengthen the concept of basic
electronics, computation, communication, etc for effective circuit development, innovative
project making and signal processing.
Key Features of the Program
BSSPI-2019 involves understanding of what works and what does not, correlating the theories
behind modern signal processing systems as well as testing the theories one by one for their
effective execution incorporating the concept of circuit making.
The workshop included Interactive Session and Hands-on Session on the wide spectrum of
circuit components, their application, circuit development and MATLAB Programming which
are being used in the field of Medical Technology as well as in Biomedical Research.
78 student participants from B.Tech Biomedical Engineering (2nd Year, 3rd Year and 4th
Year) were divided into various groups for day long rigorous hands-on session.
This program was riveting and exceedingly enriching as the students were able to interact
with one of their most Prestigious Alumnus Dr. Anwesha Khasnobish (B.TECH
BME 2009 pass out Batch) as Resource Person who is presently working as
Scientist- TCS Research and Innovation Lab.
Under the guidance of Dr. KARABI GANGULY, CONVENER (BSSPI-2019) & HOD BME
Department along with all the faculty members, staff members and Beloved Alumnus of
BME-JISCE, the program was conducted with utter enthusiasm and scrutiny. It was really a
great successful and wonderful event.
OUTCOME:
The ultimate goal of every Biomedical Engineer is to keep the biomedical equipment into
operation, analyze the bio-signals for health assessment or develop different assistive
devices as it is a very important ability of the engineer to solve the healthcare related
problem quickly and economically. They must build their knowledge on basics and
continue to practice with the technology so that they get expertise in it.
The objective of the BSSPI-2019 Program was to impart knowledge about the advanced
bio-signal processing techniques, its implementation and its impact for extracting
information that can be used to understand the underlying physiological mechanisms of
human system which may be useful for medical diagnosis, analysis, therapy or making
different prosthesis.
It is our proud privilege that Dr. Anwesha Khasnobish, alumnus (B.TECH BME 2009 Batch)
and Scientist-TCS, Research & Innovations enriched the program by practical
implementations of circuit making process, signal processing techniques, encouraging
extensive discussion, interactions on the scope and the importance of Bio-signals &
Systems in real life scenario.
