EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD – April 12, 2020

Prayer for Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the

Most Holy Sacrament. I live you above all things and I desire to

receive you in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you

sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen

Respect Life Society wishes all our parishioners a Blessed, Holy, Healthy Easter. “He is not here, for He has been raised just as He said” Matthew 28:6

“God our Father, by raising Christ Your Son You conquered the power of death and opened for us the way to eternal life. Let our celebration today raise us up and renew our lives by the Spirit that is within us. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Dear children and young people of St. John the Evangelist Parish Family,

A Blessed Easter to all of you! May the Risen Savior, Jesus Christ, watch over all of you and your families and loved ones.

You might be wondering why all of this is happening and where God is in all of this. Every age has its difficulties and problems. We are all experiencing something

very unusual in our lives and in our country and world. Some of you might be frightened and even mad at God about what is happening. That’s okay; God

understands that we might feel that way. God loves us and is with us in all of this. God did not do this to us. It is what we would call a natural event. It is part of things that

happen to us as human beings. Stay close to your families and loved ones. Pray to the Lord, Jesus Christ, to watch over you and your families. Jesus loves you and is with you. Your priests, deacon and parish staff love you and we’re praying for you and your loved ones.

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Do not hinder them. The kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Gospel of St. Matthew 19:14)

May Almighty God bless you and your families. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion It has been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy

Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of

grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and

lovingly embrace Him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common

reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend

“The Lord is truly risen, Alleluia.

To him be glory and power for all the ages of eternity, Alleluia, alleluia.” Revelation 1:6

Dear Brothers & Sisters in the Risen Lord! The glory of the Lord, Jesus Christ, has broken through the darkness of death and has

renewed the face of the earth. Be assured the Lord who loves us will break though the darkness that we and the world are now experiencing.

It is important to be hopeful and wait with patient endurance. Hold firm to the faith and trust in the Lord. Remember how the apostles and followers of Jesus scattered when he was

arrested and crucified. They went into hiding for fear of their lives. We, too, seem to be in hiding for fear of our lives!

Remember the words of the Risen Savior, to his disciples in the upper room, “On the evening of that first day of the week, even though the disciples had locked the doors of the

place where they were out of fear, Jesus came and stood before them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said. When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. At the sight of the Lord,

the disciples rejoiced. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said again. (Gospel of John 20:19-21) Let us open the doors of our heart and let in the peace, love, grace, hope, and strength of the Risen Lord. Lift up your hearts and heads and know that the Lord is here. He is walking

with us through this time of testing and pain. He loves us and died for us, and was raised up for our salvation.

“Brothers and Sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so

that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.” (Romans 6:3-4)

Brothers and Sisters, let us not forget that we are children of God and brothers and sisters of the Lord Jesus Christ, and one another. We are people of hope, people of love, people

of the truth, people of the light, and people of life.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Let the Holy Anthem Rise
