We are now accepting contracts
for the 4-H Country ham Project!
This is a great project that
teaches youth to not only cure a
country ham, but also valuable public speaking skills.
Participants receive two country hams, and learn the
curing process through this 4-H Project. Participants also
are required to give a speech on the assigned topic at the
opening day of the KY state fair! See enclosed flyer and
contract for information. Read included flyer for more
information or to sign up for this project. Deadline to
turn in registration for this project is Tuesday, December
18th!
First meeting will be January 21st. (MLK day)
Adult ham information will come out on Wednesday
January 2nd
The Jessamine County Exten-
sion Office will be closed Dec.
24th-Jan. 1st for the Holidays.

Middle Schoolers!!
See the enclosed information about Kentucky 4-H
Teen Summit! This is a conference designed for our
6th, 7th and 8th graders! It costs $125.00 and the
deadline to register is January 24th. We do have two
½ scholarships available. If you need information on
the scholarship contact Cathy. This conference is
one you do not want to miss!
Livestock Club Start Up Meeting!
The Hoof Prints Livestock club will hold its startup meeting on January 10th, 2019. It will start at 6:30. Unlike years
past, it will count for two (2) educational hours. This meeting is for all youth interested in Livestock and who plan to
show animals for the summer show season in 2019.
Each 4-H member who shows livestock (beef, dairy, sheep, hogs, and goats) are required to get 6 hours of
education each year, provided by a certified livestock leader. There are no exceptions to this rule! Our regular
meeting schedule of the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. We will meet from January through March, with
possible April dates, but do not wait to get your hours. We will have some activities and events outside of our
regular Thursday meetings as well. Our meetings are a fun learning experience! We hope you will consider joining
this club!
Our County 4-H Speech Contest will be
Thursday, January 31st, 2019. We will start at
6:30pm. If you would like to sign up for the speech
contest, and are NOT in 4th or 5th grade in Jessamine
County Public Schools you may do so by calling the
extension office. Deadline to sign up for the speech
contest is Friday January 18th, 2019.

have signed up through those.
4-H Cooking Kitchen Stars– Group A will meet Jan. 22nd at 6:00 p.m. at the AG Learning Center. Group B meets
Jan. 8th at 6:00 pm in the AG Learning Center
4-H A-Team Dog Club-Meets second Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the Fair Grounds/Ag Learning Center.
4-H Colonels Horse Club– Meets 2nds Tuesday at 6:30 p.m at the AG Learning Center.
4-H Cloverbud Club– will meet Dec. 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the AG Learning Center.
4-H Homeschool Club– Meets the Dec. 20th at 10 a.m.at the Ag Learning Center.
4-H Art Club—will meet Jan. 17th, at 6 p.m. in the AG Learning Center.
4-H Rabbit Club– Will meet the 1st Monday of the month in the AG Learning Center.
Remember that is if school is cancelled for bad weather, so are 4-H activities and meetings. We must have an enrollment form on file to be a member of a 4-H

Come on out and see what Teen Council is about! This is open to our 9th- 12th graders who either live in or go to
school in Jessamine County. Don’t forget that if you plan to apply to be a Junior Counselor at 4-H camp, outside
of camp involvement in 4-H is considered in the scoring process!

Join 4-H’ers from across the state of Kentucky for this 3-day, 2-night leadership
conference at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center in Jabez, Kentucky.
Explore opportunities provided through 4-H, like international travel,
conferences, projects, and much more! Experience new things while taking
workshops and funshops that interest you. Give back to the community through
a service project, and build your leadership skills with the State Teen Council
team leaders. There is also plenty of time to eat ice cream, play games (Did
someone say Ga-Ga Ball?), and meet new friends!

Must complete 6 hours of training under the supervision of a certified livestock volunteer.
Giving a 3-5-minute presentation at Ky. State Fair on Thursday, Aug.15, 2019 On the required topic: Junior (Born 2009 - 2005) How to cook and store a country ham. - Discuss the best ways to store your country ham after the fair and the various ways to cook a country ham. Senior (Born 2000 - 2004) Design a country ham curing facility for your counties ham project. - More and more counties are building their own country ham houses. You have an unlimited budget, design your counties dream country ham house and curing facility. Please note – ALL SENIORS PRESENTATIONS MUST BE AT LEAST 2 MINUTES LONG OR THEY WILL BE DIS-QUALIFIED AND HAMS FORFIETED.
Pay $60.00 fee – you will receive 2 hams (failure to complete the project, fee will NOT be refunded and you will forfeit both hams, Upon forfeit, if the two hams are not returned an additional $60.00 fee will be charged and if the additional fee is not paid the 4-H member will not be able to participate in next years’ country ham project).
