Core Knowledge is based on the premise that a grade-by-grade core of common learning and posits that early education curriculum should be solid, specific, shared, and sequenced. By teaching a body of specific, lasting knowledge in a way that allows children to succeed by gradually building on what they already know. Classical Education advocates a form of education based in the traditions of Western culture and refers to a broad-based study of the liberal arts and sciences, as opposed to a practical or pre-professional program. Montessori education is characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development. Montessori includes mixed-age classrooms, student choice of activity from within a prescribed range of options, uninterrupted blocks of work time. Students learn concepts from working with materials, rather than by direct instruction. Waldorf education is organized by three broad stages in child development. Early years focus on providing practical, hands-on activities and

environments that encourage creative play. At the elementary level, the emphasis is on developing pupils' artistic expression and social

capacities. At the secondary level, focuses on developing critical understanding and fostering idealism.

Include the following roll-over definitions: Core Knowledge is based on the premise that a grade-by-grade core of common learning is necessary to ensure a sound and fair elementary education and teaches a body of specific, lasting knowledge in a way that allows children to succeed by gradually building on what they already know.

Montessori includes mixed age classrooms, student choice of activity from within a prescribed range of options, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and is founded on a "discovery" model, where students learn concepts from working with materials, rather than by direct instruction.

Waldorf distinguishes three broad stages in child development; early years focuses on practical, hands-on activities and environments that encourage creative play. Elementary schools focus on developing artistic expression, and social capacities. Secondary education focuses on critical understanding and fostering idealism.
