Pattern InstructionsPart 1: Triangles and Body of StoleMake 7 triangles. Each triangle should measure 6.7 inches (17 cm) at the base if you are using the recommended yarn and hook. This means that the strip of 7 triangles will measure 47 inches wide.

If you are using a different type of yarn and hook size, your measurement will be different. Keep in mind that the total number of triangles should be an ODD number. For example, you’ll need 9 triangles if your triangles measure approximately 5.2 inches, or 5 triangles if they measure approximately 9.4 inches. This will not affect the pattern, if the number of triangles is an ODD number. But, if your measurement fails to come close to the 6.7, you could also add a set of full stitch and chain spaced rows, ending with six rows instead of four. Each triangle consists of alternating rows: one of full dc stitches and the other of chain spaces, for a total of 4 rows, ending with a chain space row.

After making your first triangle, fasten off. When ending the fourth row of the second triangle [wrong side facing you], join with a sl st to the first triangle [with wrong sides of triangles facing you]. Keep on joining triangles as you go and fasten off and hide ends after each join. You will have a strip of 7 triangles, each consisting of four rows. If you have added rows to your triangles in order to achieve the 6.7 inches of base width, remember they must all end with a chain spaced row.

Row 1. Ch 4 and make 12 dc in the 4th ch from hook. [or make an ar, ch3 and make 12 dc in the ring, pull yarn end to close the ar and hide the yarn end.] Turn. [13 dc]

Row 2. Ch 5 [counts as 1 dc + ch 2], 1 dc in same st, ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 2, sk 2 sts., in next st [center st] make (1dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc), ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 2, sk next 2 sts, (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in the 3rd ch of beginning ch 3 of R1. Turn. (9 dc, 8 ch-2 sp)

Row 3. Ch 5 [counts as 1 dc + ch 2], 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp) 3 times, (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next st [center dc], (2 dc in next ch-2 sp, 1 dc in next st) 3 times, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in the 3rd ch of beginning ch 5 of R2. Turn. [29 dc, 4 ch-2 sp]

Row 4. Ch 5 [counts as 1 dc + ch 2], 1 dc in same st, ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, 1 dc in next st, (ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next) 4 times, ch2, sk ch-2 sp, (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2) in center dc, sk ch-2 sp, 1 dc in next st, (ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next) 4 times, ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in the 3rd ch of beginning ch 5 of R3. [17 dc, 16 ch-2 sp].

Fasten off the first triangle. Fasten off each of the subsequent triangles after joining them to the previous one, while forming your 7-triangle strip. Remember to join with wrong side facing you.

Once you have joined the seventh triangle, turn the strip to the right side facing you, and continue with the alternating rows as follows:

Rows 5 to 27: alternate full dc rows [R5] and ch-2 sp rows [R6]. [see Figure 2.]

Row 5. With right side of triangle strip facing you, join yarn with a sl st to the last dc on a chain spaced row of the first triangle to the right [this will be the first triangle you made], ch 3, sk ch-2 sp, dc in next dc [you may also make a standing dc2tog by starting with a standing dc half way made in the first dc and a second dc halfway made into the next st, without forgetting to sk the ch-2 sp, and closing them together]. Continue with the full dc row by following the pattern of the triangles (the sts are always the same), work 3 dc together at the point where the triangles meet as follows: make a dc3tog joining last free dc of the preceding row, the sl st, and the next free dc of the next triangle. End the R5 with dc2tog in the last 2 st, skipping the ch-2 sp in between these 2 sts. Turn.

Row 6. Ch 3, sk next 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, work ch-2 sp rows (the sts are always the same). At the point where the triangles meet: make dc3tog [see photo below] by joining the dc located 2 st before the joining st of the previous row, the dc3tog, and the 3rd dc of next triangle, ending row with dc2tog in last 2 sts, skipping 2 sts in between. Turn.

Work till 27 rows are completed and work measures 17 inches (44 cm) in length. DO NOT FASTEN OFF yarn at the end of row 27 or any other odd numbered row (Full Stitch Row) if you have decreased or incremented your number of rows, or want it longer or shorter in length.
