COMMUNITY LEARNING with Jack Drum Arts Autumn 2016 WORKSHOP PROGRAMME CALL FOR BRASS MUSICIANS, PERFORMERS AND ARTISTS Do you play a brass instrument, sing, dance or enjoy arts and crafts? Do you love Christmas? Would you like to perform and be part of the amazing Crook Community Christmas event alongside the ‘Balkanistic’ boogie dance band ‘The Baghdaddies’, On Board Arts Street Theatre and Jack Drum Arts? If yes we need you.. We are looking for brass musicians, performers and artists of all ages and abilities to join our team of professionals for our spectacular ‘Crook Community Christmas’ parade on SUNDAY 27th NOVEMBER with an option to also join us at the Consett Christmas Lights Switch on FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER as well. Brass players will work with musicians from the Baghdaddies and a team of community drummers to learn and rehearse a selection of new and traditional tunes with a Balkans flavour, as well as a selection from the Baghdaddies’ impressive repertoire, ready to lead the early evening Community Christmas Parade event. We also need people who would like to get involved in the overall creation of the event including creating large scale lanterns and masks, carrying parade puppets, singing, dancing and generally helping out both in the lead upto the event and on the day. So, whether you are a practicing musician or artist, just starting out at school, or just fancy dusting off the old instrument in the loft or putting on your dancing shoes. Advanced Drawing & Mark Making

No camera required for these

informal workshops. You will be

introduced to a range of techniques

including cyanotype processes and

pinhole photography learning how to

make a series of photographic

images without using a conventional

camera.

Fast-paced, high energy, foot-stomping musical fun! Our awardwinning community samba workshopsbring the flavour of Mardi Gras toperformance and procession. Workingwith Laura Emerson and young leaderslearn traditional Brazilian rhythms anddrumming, make new friends and joinus for events and festivals around theregion.NB: Suitable for all ages (under 8’smust be accompanied by an adult)

Come and explore your creativity

using clay! In a supportive and fun

environment led by local artist Lindsey

Starborn you will develop (or refine)

handbuilding and wheel throwing skills,

produce work that is thoughtful,

challenging, functional, beautiful...but,

most of all, uniquely yours!

Come along and develop your

drawing skills, open your mind to the

creative possibilities when combining

techniques. The group will explore wet

and dry media including charcoal,

inks, graphite, pastels, watercolour

and experiment with creating marks

and texture to be used to create

collage outcomes. You will be

introduced to a range of starting

points, such as still life, landscape and

the figure in a lively and supportive

group situation. Develop your own

creative style and themes with the

support of fine artist Alison Diamond.

winning community samba workshops

Alevroyiannis and talented young

leaders Brendan and Sam you will

learn traditional Brazilian rhythms and

drumming and be invited to join us to

perform at events and festivals around

the region. The course is suitable for all

abilities whether you be a novice or an

experienced musician.

This Arts and Crafts community

learning course will give you a taste of

a variety of different creative media,

including: painting and drawing,

printmaking, sculpture, arts in textiles

and more. You will be given the

opportunity to experiment with

different materials and learn new skills

in a creative learning environment.

You will also be able to develop your

own ideas and interests under the

guidance of artist Jillian Greenwood.

Portuguese for BeginnersThursdays, 7.30pm until 9.30pm

6th October until 2nd February

registration for 15 weeks

The focus of this Portuguese Beginners

course is on practical communication

and provides an introduction to the

Brazilian way of life and culture. Upon

completion of the course, learners

should be able to introduce

themselves and others in Portuguese,

deal with everyday situations in

restaurants, hotels, shops and at the

doctor’s, along with other basic skills

related to daily life situations.

Please note that the focus is on

Brazilian Portuguese, although this

course allows for some references to

European Portuguese.
