9:15 - 10:00 am TECHNICAL SESSION #1 Chuck Barnett, Dura Bond Bearing Company “Powder Metal Technology” Chuck will speak about the use of powder metal technology in valve seats and how they have evolved over the years to meet more specific requirements. A recent example is the Copper Infiltrated material designed to improve thermal transfer from the valve to the seat. Chuck will also cover some of the terrific products that are specific to saving the LS blocks and cams coupled with some new coatings technology.

1:00 - 1:45 pm TECHNICAL SESSION #2 Chuck Lynch, AERA-Engine Builders Association “Valve Seat Machining, Tolerances, Tooling and Methods” AERA Technical Specialist Chuck Lynch will discuss valve seat parameters such as concentricity, surface finishes, geometry and the gauges used to verify the parameters. There will be review of the different available methods of machining valve seats, from grinding to single point generation and the tooling associated with the processes.

2:00 - 2:45 pm TECHNICAL SESSION #3 Lake Speed Jr, Driven Racing Oil “Direct Injection Engines and Low Speed Pre-Ignition – What You Need To Know About the Unique Needs of Direct Injection Engines” The American Petroleum Institute (API) is releasing an updated motor oil specification called API SN Plus in response to OEM calls for improved protection against Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) problems. Lake Speed Jr explains the phenomenon of LSPI, why it is unique to Direct Injection engines, and how both motor oil and fuel contribute to the tendency for LSPI to occur. This is critical information for any shop working on direct injection engines.
