FR O M T H E PRE S I D E N T By Brett Lynch

I would like to take the time to wish everyone a Happy New Year. This past

year was topped off with big fun at the annual Christmas party. Stephan

Weiss and Cathy Law won the biggest prize from the raffle. Each won a din-

ner for 2 with Mike Yoder. Hopefully they realize they will need to pay for

Yoder as well. Here’s to 2016 bringing more adventures for you and the club.

I would also like to thank a couple of individuals who have given back a lot to

the club over this past year. Polly Corvaia, Jon Durand, and Beth Auman have

been handling communications. Polly and Jon have been handling Facebook

and have done a great job increasing traffic. Beth has been handling the

newsletter as well as much more.

Larry Drago, Caroline Hill, and Bill Buchanan have taken the lead on club so-

cial activities. In the latter part of the year, they organized activities such as a

Manayunk bike ride and Reading Royals game. Bill also built a tap system for

the club’s use while recuperating from a broken leg he earned while marking

trail for the Blues Cruise course.

Thank you to everyone else that came out to support the club and our com-

munity this year. Be it working a race, organizing a club event, or working a

trail cleanup. I know there are many others, too many to mention each by

name.

While this year has been good, there is always room for improvement. I know

one thing I would like to improve on myself is communication. This includes

acknowledging individuals and promoting opportunities for participation and

group runs. As with all clubs, an emphasis needs to be placed on engage-

ment and bringing in new people. Hopefully we can do all we can to encour-

age both.

I am always looking for feedback and

direction as well. So please contact me

with any ideas for the betterment of the

club.

Have a great New Year, and hopefully

you will reach your goals.

We’ll form teams of 4 or 5 people and just play for fun.

well as an assortment of beverages.

Pacers Scholarship Deadline - February 29

The Pagoda Pacers awards four outstanding High School Sen-

iors, each with a $500 scholarship for their continuing educa-

tion. Students are recognized for their participation and

achievements in running, academics and community service.

Two scholarships are open to all high school seniors who par-

ticipated on a Berks County high school cross country team.

Two scholarships are open to all high school seniors whose

parents are current members in standing for at least one year

of the Pagoda Pacers.

The Scholarship Application and additional details are online

at http://www.pagodapacers.com/Scholarships/About.aspx.

Shiver #1 was held on December 13th, with 391 runners com-

pleting the 5K, and 156 runners finishing the 10K, for a total of

547 runners, the highest total attendance for the December

races (the previous record was 490, in December 2011). I

believe we also set the record for the all time highest tempera-

ture; I think it hit 70 degrees!! It was absolutely beautiful!

You may have noticed, we have 2 new race directors, Steve

Skrocki and Kelsey Jackson. Steve has been a Pacer for the

past couple of years and most of you know Kelsey, who has

been volunteering since she was 7. Thank you to both of them

for stepping up!!!!

By the time you receive this newsletter, results will be listed on

our website www.pagodapacers.com and also on Pretzel City

Sports www.pretzelcitysports.com. If you want your finish time

published in this newsletter, remember, starting this year, you

will need to send it yourself to [email protected].

The first male and female in the 5K were Michael Urban with a

time of 16:55 and Samantha Snukis with a time of 18:24. The

top male and female in the 10K were Nick Sturm in 34:40 and

Ali Tannous in 43:08. Congrats to all runners and thank you for

running the Shiver.

THANK YOU… THANK YOU… THANK YOU to our volunteers!!!!

Once again, it was a very successful day, thanks to many Pac-

ers.

Please remember to only complete the registration form ONCE

during the series. As we have done in the past, we will have 3

separate areas for registration. I know you have all heard this

before, but trust me, we will still have runners who will complete

a form each time.

Pre-Registration is in the front room, for those runners

who have paid for the entire series.

For those runners who are paying for each race, indi-

vidually, and who ran in December, registration is in the 2nd

room, at the table marked 'Post Registration Single Race

Entry' . We have a number with a label with your name. No

need to complete a new registration form. If you do, there

is the potential of being recognized as a different runner

when it comes time to calculate the series results. If any

information needs to be changed, just let them know when

you get your number; no need to complete a registration

form with the changed information.

For those runners who have not registered for the

2015-2016 series, registration is in the 2nd room at the

table marked ‘Post Registration’. When completing the

registration form, if you have paid for the series, please

circle YES; otherwise, we will expect you to pay again at

the remaining races.

Please patronize our sponsors: A Running Start and Shilling-

ton Chiropractic. Also, thank you to Road - ID for supplying our

race bibs. Look for Road-ID flyers and coupons at the remain-

ing Shivers. Also, this is not a Pretzel City event; therefore,

Pretzel City G/C are not to be used to pay for your registration.

The next Shiver is Sunday, January 10th. Come out and run off

some of that holiday cheer!!! We hope to see even more Pac-

ers running, but if you aren't running, PLEASE consider volun-

teering an hour or two of your time. If you can help with regis-

tration, plan to be at the farmhouse by 9:15 and if you can

help on the road, plan to be at the farmhouse by 10:15-10:30.

And even if you run, we can always use help with clean-up.

Look for Sue, Steve or Kelsey and we will find a spot for you!!!!

Happy Holidays to all!!!
