Tax Preparation Returns to the

Burnside Center!

The Burnside Center is pleased to welcome back the VITA program through Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan’s Heartland. The VITA program offers free income tax preparation at the Burnside Center for those with qualifying household incomes of $55,000 and under. VITA tax return preparation sites are operated by IRS-certified volunteers. All returns are electronically submitted. This program is designed to assist people with simple returns.

Starting January 15, the Burnside Center will take calls to schedule appointments.

Come out on Friday mornings to learn the art form of quilling - taking strips of paper, rolling and gluing to make design. Class is @ 9 am in the craft room.

Craft Class

Chicken and Broccoli Quiche

• 2, 9-inch ready-made pie crusts, baked• 4 eggs• 1 cup low-fat or skim milk• Salt and pepper to taste• 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder• 1 package (10-ounce) frozen, chopped broccoli• 1/4 cup shredded carrots• 1/4cupfinelychoppedonion (optional)• 3/4 cup cooked, chopped chicken• 3/4 cup reduced-fat cheddar cheese, shredded

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake pie crusts according to package directions.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

3. Place frozen chopped broccoli in microwave. Cook according to package directions. Pour off liquid. Let cool, squeeze broccoli to remove more water.

4. Layer the meat, vegetables, and cheese into baked pie crusts. Pour the egg mixture over the ingredients.

5. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes or until top is browned and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Use a thermometer to be sure temperature of quiche reaches 160°F.

6. Let stand 5 minutes before cutting.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP

Meeting Monthly The Alzheimer’s Support Group is a monthly meeting of individuals who have loved ones that suffer from Dementia/Alzheimer’s. This is a gentle, confidential group in which one can share the emotions and difficulties one experiences when guiding a loved one through the many phases and issues of this disease.

Meeting Times Meetings are generally held on the first Monday of each month from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m.
