July, 2012—June, 2013

Greetings fellow Oklahoma Camera

Club members.

I am looking forward to being your club

President for the 2012 - 2013 club year.

I know that we will have a successful

year.

We have gained several new members

toward the end of the last club year,

and I fully expect some of our recent

visitors will join us as members soon.

Just remember, getting new members is

not the end of the story - we need to

encourage all our members to stay with

us. I'd ask that all of us make it a point

to look for unfamiliar faces each meet-

ing, and introduce ourselves. You may

be meeting a visitor, a brand new mem-

ber, or simply an "old" member you just

don't know. In any case, both of you

will come out ahead because of the en-

counter. There is nothing like that per-

sonal touch.

Our club has never been afraid to try

new things. Some work and some

don't, but we continually try to adjust

to the times and our membership's

needs, in order to encourage people to

enter club competition and participate

in other ways.

This year, we have made a small

change with the potential to have a

large effect on our print competitions.

We are no longer required to "stiffen"

our prints for entry: you can enter un-

mounted images. This is being done to

make things easier on our membership

and encourage more people to enter

our print competitions. We discov-

ered a new way to display the winning

prints. This small change to our rules

also makes it possible for these same

prints (pieces of paper) (Cont’d Page 3. .

to be sent to international PSA com-

petitions. For a long time, many of us

have had to make two sets of prints -

one for club, and one for international

competitions. This problem is now

solved, and all others not involved in

international competitions no longer

have to go to the expense of mount-

ing their prints.

I do have a concern that our club is

only one or at best two people deep

on several important functions. I

know before our club meetings actu-

ally start, that there is a lot of work

going on. Sometimes it is easier in the

short term to just put your head

down and "get'er done." However, I

would like to challenge both the cur-

rent workers and those new to the

club to get together. If you are the

only one working a position any given

night, look around for someone unoc-

cupied and ask for help. Be willing to

learn.

We try very hard to bring an inter-

esting and informative program to you

at each meeting. I know that Randy

Carr would appreciate your help with

that. He is this club year's Program

Chairman and is on the lookout for

good programs. Do not hesitate to

tell him of an idea you have.

Please say "yes" to Jaci Finch APSA

when she asks you to judge. This isn't

jury duty folks. It is not life and death

stuff here. We all make "judgments"

constantly in our daily lives, including

which images to enter into competi-

tion. There is almost no better way

to learn about your own photography

then taking the time to carefully judge

someone else's work. Read the rules

to be prepared, and agree to judge.

You and the club will be the better

for it.

The main thing that I want to do is

encourage all of us to stay involved or

get involved with our club. We get

out of things what we bring to them.

Let's all bring enthusiasm, openness,

friendliness, and a desire to learn to

our camera club. We'll all be amazed

at what we can accomplish.

Respectfully,

Jan Lee, APSA, PPSA

For Members of PSA

Members of PSA receive the PSA Journal monthly. The June issue contains a

survey to be used by the PSA Board of Directors to review and improve ser-

vices and activities available to members. They ask that members complete the

survey truthfully and return to PSA Headquarters. Your responses will remain

confidential.

For the past several years, the Edmond Fine Arts Institute, 27 E Edwards, Ed-

mond, has asked our club to put on a show during the month of June. We are

there again this year.

About mid club year, Wally Lee starts asking membership to provide a few

prints for the show. One of the most fun things about this is we never know

what we are going to get or how many. It is always a very varied exhibit. Not

surprisingly, it is always a good one. This year is no exception - in fact, I think it

was one of our best.

We have 32 images from 13 people. We have had as few as 24 and as many as

36. The 32 we have this year fit just perfectly in the available space. Each one

had room to strut its stuff and be displayed to advantage.

We had a lot of fun hanging the photos. Wally Lee, Jan Lee, Debbie

Devonshire, Ward Conaway, and J. D. McClung all pitched in. We man-

aged to get all the prints straight (thank you Ward), and grouped nicely.

Here are some photos of us at work, and also some of the finished product. I

hope that many of you will be able to take the time to visit the show.

Be prepared to lend a hand next year - either with photos, by helping to hang

the exhibit, or both. The more the merrier. These images where taken by Jan

Lee and Debbie Devonshire. (More photos page 5)

PSA Youth Photo Contest

We’re on the web!

www.Oklahomacameraclub.com

I am sure you remember the great celebration we held at the club meeting in

April, we filled the room with excited your photographers from all over the

state awaiting the results of the judging. This event is sponsored by the Okla-

homa Camera Club for all high school students state-wide. Carol

McCreary APSA and Tom McCreary do a spectacular job of managing and

promoting this event.

The winners from the Oklahoma competition are submitted to PSA for the

National PSA Youth Judging. This year we had two winners, a 1st HM in Ar-

chitecture and a 2nd HM in PJ. I am sure you will remember these two images.

A wonderful community contribution that the Oklahoma Camera Club spon-

sors and certainly something the students enjoy and will long remember. The

club will benefit from this state-wide event long after the final winners will be

hung at the PSA National Convention in San Francisco this September.

How can you help? You can help by promoting the competition at the schools,

by contacting them, encouraging participation and handing out flyers - get out

there and help out. I am sure Carol and Tom McCreary would appreciate it

and the state of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Camera Club will benefit.

Several of our members attended the Red Earth Festival held each year in

Oklahoma City providing a real opportunity to capture some great images and

have fun doing it. As no titles were supplied, I made them up, given credit to

the photographer and may have added a comment or two with the image. I am

sure you will enjoy the photos provided. I know - you get tired of me asking,

but if I don’t ask, I would have nothing to publish - so please send me your im-

ages with an explanation of what they are about so other members can appreci-

ate where they where taken and any additional info you can provide. Thanks.

Left Anchorage and moved down to the Kenai Peninsula to the thriving commu-

nity of Kenai. Our RV site looked across Cook Inlet where we had spectacu-

lar views of the 5 volcanoes along west side of the inlet. Moose made themselves

at home in the park. From Kenai we day tripped to Homer and Seward. These

once quaint fishing villages are now bustling with bumper to bumper RV's and

cruise ships unloading throngs of curio buying tourists. Seward has a beautiful

Sea Life Center and aquarium focusing on the Arctic biosphere. On our way

back from Homer we had a close up view of a cow moose who decided to me-

ander across the road in front of us. She dodged right and I dodged left and no

blood was spilled. I did have a charge of adrenaline that lasted a while! We vis-

ited the 125 year old Russian Orthodox church at Ninilchick, a remnant of the

Russian ownership of Alaska. We are now in Tok awaiting repairs on a flat tire

which Wilmer says should be ready tomorrow. His garage opens somewhere

around eight or nine o'clock depending on how late he stays out tonight.

creative interpretation of the theme.

In response to last year’s highly

successful Can You See Me Now:

Photos Made on Phones project,

we have organized our second

invitational exhibition, Cell

Phones in Summer. It is an

assemblage of photographs made

by professionals and not-

theme of ‘summer,’ and this year

e included a video category.

A total of 38 individuals who

answered Untitled’s call to entry

for this project were selected to
