Individuals impacted by cancer are invited to participate in “Raising Our Voices” with Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater and UAB Institute for Arts in Medicine.

Living with cancer can be isolating. The loss of normalcy, the effect on family and friends, the exhaustion, and the change of identity. Many people affected by cancer grapple with these daily realities.

Join the artists of critically acclaimed Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater (SPDT) and share your experiences with other people impacted by cancer. The stories will be the subject of a performance piece titled “Raising Our Voices: Stories of Cancer Told through Movement, Music and Voice” on Saturday, March 14, at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center.

Project participants will perform alongside members of SPDT, the UAB Theatre Department and community performers. This project is intended to honor participants’ experiences, allowing opportunities for solidarity, healing, connectionand creative expression.

Creation and rehearsal of “Raising Our Voices” will occur over a two-week period from Feb. 28–March 14 led by SPDT Artistic Co-Directors Suzanne Costello and Stuart Pimsler. Participants will be assigned specific rehearsal times.

This project is open to ANYONE who has been touched by cancer – including those living with cancer, survivors, family members, friends, medical professionals, etc.

NO ACTING/DANCING EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY.

For more information about this project, join us on Wednesday, January 29 at 12p or 6p at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center or at UAB Hospital on Friday, January 31 with SPDT Artistic Co-Directors Suzanne Costello and Stuart Pimsler.

Register for an information session at alysstephens.org/events/raising-our-voices.
