JAMESTOWN-YORKTOWN FOUNDATION – WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA
WWW.HISTORYISFUN.ORG/TOUR-OPERATORS
The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, an agency of the Commonwealth of
Virginia under the Secretary of Education, operates two AAM accredited living-
history museums in the Williamsburg area of Virginia. Both museums offer a
wide range of group experiences: educational programs, group tours,
performance package, dining and shopping all year long. The perfect addition to
any itinerary!
Jamestown Settlement
Near the site of the original colony, Jamestown Settlement tells the story of
17th-century Virginia, from the arrival of English colonists at Jamestown in
1607 to the cultural encounters and events that planted the seeds of a new
nation. The world of Jamestown, America’s first permanent English colony,
comes to life through film, gallery exhibits and outdoor living history.
Climb aboard replicas of the three ships that sailed from England to Virginia in
1607, and explore life-size re-creations of the colonists’ fort and a Powhatan
village. In the outdoor areas, costumed historical interpreters describe and
demonstrate daily life in early 17th-century Virginia.
American Revolution Museum at Yorktown
Near the battlefield where allied American and French forces
won the decisive battle of the American Revolution in 1781, the
American Revolution Museum at Yorktown chronicles the
Revolutionary period, from colonial unrest to the formation of
the new nation. The story of America’s evolution from colonial
status to nationhood is told through films, vibrant engaging
exhibits and participatory experiences inside a new museum
building and outdoors at a living-history Continental Army
encampment, featuring an artillery demonstration area and
Revolution-era farm.
October 15-16, 2016 is Preview Weekend for the new museum
with the debut of an introductory film and permanent galleries.
March 23-April 4, 2017, is the Grand Opening Celebration. The
13 original states will be highlighted in the order in which they ratified the Constitution. April 1 is Dedication Day. Plan
to visit and bring your groups to celebrate on state days: DE 3/23, PA 3/24, NJ 3/25, GA 3/26, CT 3/27, MA 3/28, MD
3/29, SC 3/30, NH 3/31, VA 4/1, NY 4/2, NC 4/3, RI 4/4. The new museum, along with Jamestown Settlement, will be
among the nation’s premier living-history museums telling the story of America’s beginnings.
