James Bowie middle school strives for excellence. James Bowie Middle school strives to recruit, hire and train classroom teachers so that our students' educationalexperiences can be positive ones.  members meet regularly with administrators and other teachers in their subject area for the success of the students. Teachers areencouraged to attend workshops in the region. By allowing teachers to attend the service center it keeps the teachers up to date with the ever changing education system.

SIMMS ISD middle school uses TEKS resources for curriculum. Instructional materials are purchased from the state approved list. Teachers use text books as a guide in meeting all the TEKS.

Teachers give benchmarks aligned with TEKS /STAAR to assure students are ready for the subsequent grade levels.  Teachers are encouraged to use the 5 E model when designing lessons.

Our campus offers multiple opportunities for students and their families to collaborate and communicate with classroom teachers and members of district administration.Some of these include: regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences, Fall Festival, Blue and Gold Christmas, Meet the Teacher Night, Crew Time Showcase, and theAnnual Thanksgiving Feast. Parents are able to stay abreast of individual student academic progress via our Parent Portal. Also, our parents and community members areencouraged to subscribe to Living Tree, a school social media service that provides insightful and up-to-date information and photographs.

The Middle  School also offers many extracurricular activities for parents and students to engage. Some include: Sports such as football, basketball, baseball, softball andpowerlifting, Ag, Band, Cheer, One Act Play just to name a few. We encourage all students to get involved in something that interests them.

A need for math improvement prompted SIMMS ISD to have grades 6-8 attend a double math block. Having a double math block in place has significantly improved middleschool STAAR scores and in turn improved high school scores as well.  The site based decision making committee meets at least twice a semester and more as needed. The committee recommends programs they feel will enhance theacademic and overall learning for all students.  

Technology

Technology Summary

SIMMS ISD middle school is one-to-one campus with MAC chrome books for the students to use at school and at home.  Teachers use Google classroom for lessons as well as testing.  The staff has received 3 different training days on the benefits and how to use Google.  Each classroom has a smart board and each teacher has an individual Mac computer.
