PrimaryPaige, Glenn D. "A Survey of Soviet Publications on Korea, 1950-56."The Journal of Asian Studies: 579.

This Article is a survey that was done in North Korea between 1950 and 1956. In this article, it talks a lot about the tensions that lead up to the communist invasion in North Korea. There was a lot of resentment from Korea when the Soviet Union invaded.

Secondary

Noah, Max. "Mission to Korea."Music Educators Journal: 14.

This article talks about the general populations feelings towards the communist invasion and the separation of Korea into north and south. It talks about a music educator who was in Soule at the time the Soviet Union invaded. It then also went into detail about the how the peninsula was divided at the 38th parallel, and when the north invaded the south the Americans took action. At the end it mentioned how Korea as a whole is trying to transition from a feudal country to a modern society.

Park, Hong-Kyu. "American Involvement in the Korean War."The History Teacher, 1983.

This Article is about the American attitude towards Eastern Asia just weeks before the start of the Korean War. It talked a lot about how there were a lot of disagreements on how the split of Korea should be handled. Each leader for the countries that were involved had their own ideas. Growing tensions between leaders only aided in the eventual invasion of Korea.

Shapiro, Jane. "Soviet Policy Towards North Korea and Korean Unification."Pacific AffairsVol. 48, No. 3 (1975): 335-52.

This article talks about the Soviet policy towards North Korea and their attitude towards unifying it. The soviet union and United States both wanted to unify Korea. However, both sides wanted the country for themselves. The Soviets wanted the peninsula, and the Americans wanted the peninsula. The article talks about the Soviets attitude towards the situation. No matter how many attempts are made to unify Korea, neither side can compromise, thus the reason why Korea has never been unified.

Tikhonov, Vladimir. "Masculinizing the Nation: Gender Ideologies in Traditional Korea and in the 1890s1900s Korean Enlightenment Discourse."The Journal of Asian Studies.

This Article focuses on how gender roles might have played into the separation of Korea. Koreas population was masculinizing, and men tended to have more of a fighting attitude. As the country was gaining more men than women, the people who were living there at the time became more and more against having one nation. This also plays into the fact that a majority of people that were living in the north supported the Soviet Union.

McDonald, Donald. "Wellsprings of Intervention: The United States and Korea." 1981, 104-28.

This Article deals with the history of Koreas bad habit of getting involved with other countries. This behavior made it easy for both the Soviet Union and the United States to get involved with Korea. The article mainly focuses on the American side of things. The United States went in only after the Soviet Union invaded, but had an eye on the peninsula.

Jervis, R. "The Impact Of The Korean War On The Cold War."Journal of Conflict Resolution: 563-92.

This article is about how the Korean War and the separation into north and south added fuel to the fire during the cold war. When none of the leaders could figure out any agreement on how to separate the country, the Soviets attacked. This is what no one wanted to happen, thus creating more tensions during the cold war.

"North Korea: History." GlobalEDGE: Your Source for Global Business Knowledge. Accessed March 6, 2015. http://globaledge.msu.edu/countries/north-korea/history.

This website lists all events that have happened from 1948 to the present day that relate to reasons why Korea still remains divided today. It talks about the Japanese leaving, which put the Soviet Union in charge in the North. Once the Soviets were in charge, the situation went down hill from there. That led to the appointment of Kim Il Sung as the leader of North Korea, and eventually the north attacked the south.

"U.S. Relations With North Korea." U.S. Department of State. February 5, 2015. Accessed March 6, 2015. http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/2792.htm.

This is an article that was written about all interactions between the U.S. and Korea from 1882 up until now. It gives a lot of back story as to why that was such a prized land to take control of. It also talks a little about why the Koreans hate the Japanese so much and were forced to leave to let the Soviets take over. This provided a lot of information on how the conflict started long before the World War II was a concern.

PBS. Accessed March 6, 2015. http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/northkorea/1948.html.

This Website focused a lot on how the Japanese ruled in Korea. They were a very brutal regime and treated the Koreans like they were lesser people than the Japanese in their own country. When the Japanese left this led to many different powers taking control of the country at once. This divided the country into north and south. The north was heavily communist and the south was democratic. The tensions between the two sides built up until the north attacked.
