Field Trips

Bio-Technology

On 25th August, 2006 a field trip was conducted for III B.Sc. Bio-Technologystudents to Sangam Dairy, Vadlamudi accompanied by G.Sharmila Prasanthi and D.Veineela.Thirty students went to the Dairy. They interacted with the Staff of Dairy and observedvarious activities that were going at Sangam Dairy.

On 12th September, 2006 a field trip was conducted for III B.Sc. Bio-Technologystudents to Water Purification Plant at Talkkellapadu accompanied by Kum. SharimilaPrasanthi and Kum. D. Vineela. Thirty students interacted with the staff of water plant. Theyobserved the plant and various activities that were going on in Water Purification Plant.

A scientific educational trip was organized for students of III B.Sc. Bio-Technologyto the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB, Hyderabad) on 26th September,2006. A batch of forty students accompanied by two staff members, Smt. Khudsia Hussainand M. Neeraja Reddy visited the centre to observe and acquaint themselves with the latestscientific machinery and research work.

Botany

From 8th to 13th January, 2006 a Botanical Tour was conducted for Final B.Sc.students having Botany as one of their optional subjects. Twenty six students participated inthe tour. This tour was lead by Sri N Sarathchandra Naidu. During the tour they visited thefollowing places- Guindy National Park, MCRC at Chennai, SIMS Park, Pasteur Institute atCoonor, Botanical Gardens Ooty, Doddabetta, tea estates at Ooty, and Paikara Waterfalls.

Computer Science & Electronics

Final Year students of B.Sc. Electronics, along with three Electronics lecturers, Sri A.Radha Krishnamurthy, Miss M. Sowjanya and Mrs.K.Jyothi went on one-day industrial tourto Effectronics, Vijayawada, on 11-11-2006.

Part - B

Days of importance were observed by different departments of U.G.& P.G. involvingthe staff and students. (Refer Annexure-2)

Guest Lectures were arranged at U.G. &P.G. level inviting Resource Persons ofEminence from various fields. (Refer Annexure-3)

An emphasis was given on Communication Skills, Career Guidance, CampusInterviews and Community Service directly and also in coordination with NGOs.

3. Innovations in Curriculum Design and Transactions:

A format with 20 Questions was prepared to obtain feedback from academic peers, andstudents on curriculum development. The feedback was discussed thoroughly at departmentmeetings, staff council and a detailed report was submitted by the Principal to theManagement for the follow up.

In order to strengthen the transaction of the curriculum to the students the followinginnovative teaching –learning methods were taken up in addition to the methods followedearlier.

Certificate course (value added add-on programme) in English Continued.

5. Examination Reforms Implemented

Year end examinations are in practice for degree students. Monthly tests, Quarterly and Halfyearly exams were conducted and the progress cards were sent to the parents.Those whoscored low marks were identified and remedial classes were offered for better performancein the exams.

P.G. programmes have been continuing under Semester system. Examination Reforms wereimplemented in the college by conducting class tests, monthly tests, quarterly, half-yearly,and model examinations. Marks obtained by the students were displayed on notice boards ofthe respective departments and the students who were below average were offered remedialcoaching. To sum it up, CIE (Continuous Internal Evalution) has been made more responsiveto measure all the scholastic achievement of students.

7. Initiatives towards Faculty Development Programme

Mr G.S.Prasad was awarded Ph.D by Andhra University for his thesis KnowledgeBased Approach for Automated Digital Image Processing.

Mr V. Palaprasada Rao completed the project entitled The Functioning ofAutonomous Colleges which was financially supported by our college management.

Mrs K. Saroja was awarded M. Phil in Zoology. Smt. P. Bharathi Devi got her M.Phil from Madhurai Kamaraj University, Madurai

for her work on Socio-Economic Conditions of Child Labour in Guntur City. Smt. Y. Anuradha and Smt. J.Kalpana are pursuing M.Phil degree at Vinayaka

Deemed University.

Extension Activities

The college has taken up a number of extension activities through which it realized manyuseful objectives. These programmes are mutually beneficent to the students as well as to thesociety. Creation of awareness, reaching help, learning to serve are the underlying principlesin these activities.

On 3rd November, 2006, thirty students of I, II and III year B.Sc. M.E.Cs wereinvolved in the distribution of homeopathic prophylactic doses to dengue fever. Allstudents , teaching and non-teaching staff of JKC College were given the pills from11.00 am to 1.00 pm

On 24th November, 2006 twenty students of I, II and III B.Sc. Electronics, wereinvolved in the distribution of Homeopathic prophylactic doses to dengue fever to 100school children and among all the residents of Netaji Nagar from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm

On 13- -9-2006 our College Students conducted a Cultural Fest Harivillu.

On 20-11-2006 Spot Painting Competition was conducted to our college students tosensitivise on the issues of Environment.

On 11-12-2006 to dispel superstitions among students Magic Show was staged by DevaraPette Troupe

Mr Sankar of Final B.Sc secured Second prize in Inter collegiate Youth Festivals 2006-07organized by Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Forty students were trained by Mr Sai Raj, choreographer, for fifteen days. The performancegiven by the students on the College Day won the appreciation of one and all. The dances andsongs reflected traditional, folk and modern trends in Indian Culture.

SPIC MACAY

28-8- 2006 a lecture cum demo of Carnatic Vocal was performed by famous HyderabadBrothers, Sri D. Sesha Chari and Sri D. Raghavachary

On 8-9-2006 a Lecture cum demo about Harikatha was given by Sri MV Simhachala Sastry

NCC

Our NCC has been outstanding for the last many years. It has won many unique distinctionsbesides sending its cadets to the prestigious Republic Day parade and representing the PrimeMinister contingent in Delhi and Mountaineering camps.

Sgt. J. Sandeep of III B.Sc. Roll No.526 participated in Special National Integration Campheld at Leh, Jammu and Kashmir from 18-07-2006 to 30-07-2006. He is the only cadet fromGuntur Group who was selected for the Leh Camp.

Lt. T. Raghavendra Rao as Guard Commander presented Guard of Honour to HonoraryColonel, Sri V. Balamohan Das, Vice-Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University, on theoccasion of 27th convocation held on 26-08-2006 at the University Campus. Fifteen cadets ofour college participated in the same programme.

Our cadets organized Clean and Green Programme on 22-11-2006 at Dakshinya, Guntur,which aims rehabitation of mentally challenged students. The Principal and the NCC Officerof JKC College participated in this programme. Later sweets and fruits were distributedamong the students.

Sgt. M. Mahesh of III B.Com., Roll No.951 and Cpl. Sk. Jani Basha of Sr.Inter Roll No.44got selected for Pre RDC-III and participated in the NCC Day Parade held at Secunderabadfrom 16-11-2006 to 27-11-2006.

On behalf of 25(A) Battalion Lt. T. Raghavendra Rao conducted Run for Fun event at JKCCollege on 23-11-2006 for inculcating the spirit of National Integration among the cadets.150 cadets from various colleges and schools participated in this event.

CQMS Ch. Kalyan Chakravarthy of I B.Sc. Roll No.677 participated in Rock ClimbingAdventure Camp held at Satabdy Morar, Gwalior, from 23-11-2006 to 04-12-2006.

Fifteen cadets of our college donated blood voluntarily to the needy people and eighteencadets registered their names in Friends to Support Organization on 25-11-2006.

Lt. T.Raghavendra Rao received the Best NCC Officer Award for 25(A) Battalion fromSri Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, Transport Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on the occasion ofNCC Day celebrations held on 26-11-2006 at Police Parade Grounds, Guntur. Ten cadets ofour college participated in the NCC Day Parade.

Our cadets participated in a Traffic Control Programme on 6th and 7th December, 2006during the Traffic Awareness Week at Guntur.

Twenty seven cadets of our college attended the Armed Forces Flag Day Ceremony on 07-12-2006 held at Zilla Sainik Welfare Office, Guntur. Our cadets collected an amount of`12,079 towards the Flag Day Fund from from our college students and the public. The totalamount collected in Guntur was `19,252. We received a letter of appreciation from the ZillaSainik Welfare Officer praising our cadets team work.

We conducted the NCC Motivation Programme on 21-12-2006 at our College Auditorium.About 200 cadets from various colleges participated in this programme. This programmewas presented through LCD Projector by Naval Officers. It was an inspiring programmeboth for the cadets and for the students as well.

JUO. Ch. Rama Krishna of II B.Sc., Roll No.125, the cadet scaled pinnacles of glory at theNational Level NCC. He was the only one from Guntur Group (Army Wing) who wasselected for Republic Day Camp, 2007. He was selected for Part-I, Part-II, Guard ofHonour and for Prime Minister’s Rally.

Our College Management announced a Cash Award of Rs 2000/- to Ch.Ramakrishna on theCollege Day for representing our college RDC-2007 at New Delhi.We are very happy and proud of having such a great cadet who represented in RDC-2007 atNew Delhi and brought laurels to our college. It is one of the greatest achievements of ourCollege NCC.

Sgt. R.Peddi Raju of I B.Com. Roll No.868 participated in All India Trekking ExpeditionCamp, Kerala Trek-2007 at Thiruvananthapuram from 11-01-2007 to 24-09-2007.

Our cadets presented Guard of Honour to Sri Jagarlamudi Narendernath, Secretary andCorrespondent of our college on the occasion of the Republic Day Celebrations 2007 on ourcollege campus.

Our cadets conducted a Photo Function on 28-02-2007 on our college campus.Col.YS Ganesh, Group Commander, Guntur, Lt.Col. KV Ramana, commanding officer,25 Andhra Battalion and Col. BS Bora, Administrative Officer graced the function and latervisited our NCC office. They were greatly impressed by our NCC activities andachievements by our cadets. Dr K. Basavapunnaiah, President of our college, presented acash award to Ch.Ramakrishna on this occasion.

Lcpl. S. Venkateswarlu of I B.Sc. Roll No.234 and Lcpl. Ch. Gowtham of I B.Com. RollNo.946 participated in the Bicycle Expedition held from 22-03-2007 for seven days fromChirala to Vijayawada and back via Chilakaluripet, Guntur, Amaravathi, Tenali and Bapatla.

NSS

A meeting was conducted on the World Environment Day with one hundred and fifty NSSvolunteers on 15-06-2006.

Weeding of Parthenium in and around the college was taken up on 01-07-2006.

Organized International Youth Day Competitions for NSS volunteers in essay writing anddebating on 12-08-2006.

Observed International Literacy Day by one hundred and thirty volunteers on 08-09-2006.

A meeting was organized on NSS day, i.e., 24-09-2006.

Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated on 02-10-2006.

A special camp during Dasara vacation was organized at Swarnabharathi Nagar. A BloodDonation Camp was organized there.

Children’s Day was celebrated on 14-11-2006.

Observed the Women’s Day on 24-11-2006. A debate was conducted by the NSS volunteerson Women’s Education and Employment.

Observed the World AIDS Day on 01-12-2006. A rally was organized by NSS volunteersfrom JKC College to Sri Venkateswara Vignan Mandir, Guntur.

NSS Units have organized Pongal Special Camp at Netaji Nagar, Guntur, from 21-01-2007to 30-01-2007. Fifty volunteers participated in it. In this camp, free medical check-up wasarranged. Seventy patients availed themselves of the facility. Medicines worth Rs 4000 /-were freely distributed.

Sadvarthana

The JKC College Sadvarthana Committee has organized an one-hour duration lecture onRaamaayanam – Saamaajika Sandesam in Sri Jagarlamudi Lakshmaiah ChowdaryAuditorium on 13-10-2006 to inculcate moral values in the student community. Our collegelecturer Dr.KVLN Appalacharyulu delivered the lecture. Eleven staff members and Fifty-three students attended this programme.

A programme on Techniques to Improve Handwriting was organized on 26-10-2006 in thecollege auditorium at 4.00 p.m. Graphologist, Mr.V.Ratna Babu gave a lecture on varioustechniques for improving handwriting. 120 students and staff members were present.

Training classes to improve handwriting were organized for 15 days from 16-11-2006 to 15-12-2006 for Intermediate, UG and PG students. Mr. V. Hemachandar, famous graphologist,trained the students.

Eco-ClubA rally was organized with plants to Tarakarama Nagar on 20-10-2006. The Principal, Staff andStudents participated in the rally. The students explained the importance of plantation to theresidents of Tarakarama Nagar. One hundred and twenty saplings were planted in TarakaramaNagar

Blood Donation Awareness Meeting was conducted on 30-08-2006. Sri GYN Babu was theresource person.

The college has established Community Vocational Training Centre in collaboration with JanaSikshna Samsthan, Guntur, which is sponsored by HRD Ministry. The CVT Centre introduced fourcertificate courses with eight programme options.

In collaboration with Jana Sikshan Samsthan (Sponsored by Ministry of Human ResourceDevelopment, Govt. of India) the CVT Centre offered five courses. They were:
