Plan of Action for the Year 2008-2009 The institution wished to take up more career guidance programmes to conduct

campus interviews by various companies.

The institution proposed to offer seed money to all the departments to conductextension lectures/ workshops/ surveys, etc.

The college resolved to introduce MBA after getting the approval from theconcerned authorities.

The institution also would make proposals ready for the UGC, New Delhi, toconduct certificate courses and seminars by different Departments.

Annual Quality Assurance Report- 2008-2009

The Departments of English, Commerce, Computer Sciences conducted an Add-On Programme (Value Addition Programme) of 30-45 days duration.

Feedback was obtained from the students on the performance of the teacherson functioning of various supporting services available in the institution. Thefeedback obtained is scrutinized thoroughly and a detailed report was submittedto the Management for follow-up actions.

Seminars, workshops, guest lectures and symposia were conducted by variousDepartments funded by the UGC.

Part – B

1 ACTIVITIES REFLECTING THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION

1.1. This institution catered to the needs of students belonging to all vulnerablecategories of the society by charging moderate fee. Students belonging to SC /ST/BC and listed minorities below the poverty line were provided with financial aidby way of scholarships.

1.2 Endowment scholarships instituted by various philanthropists and old studentswere awarded every year as per the stipulated norms set by the respectivetrusts / individuals to the eligible students. (Refer Annexure-1)

1.4.1 Field Trips

Smt.M.Anupama, Head of the Dept., Mr. B.Sivakishore, Smt.K.Sandhyadevi,Lecturers in Microbiology, led PGMicrobiology students on an industrial tour toOoty, Mysore and Bangalore from 13-03-2009 to 23-03-2009.

The students of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Microbiology went on a fieldtrip to the Sugar Factory at Vuyyuru on 11-11-2008 to study FermentationTechnology. Mr. Shaik Adam, Ms. Y. V. Padma, Ms. N.Radha and Ms. B.V.Ratnakumari accompanied the students.

On 19-10-2008 Sri S. R. K. Prasad, Director, PG Courses, Mr. T. V. Kirankumar,Mr. N.Srinivasa Rao and Ms. Santhisri led the Botany students to KondapalliForest Area for plant collection.

Ms. Sowjanya, Mr. R. Venkateswara Rao led B.Sc. Electronics students on anindustrial tour to Effectronics, Vijayawada on 25-10-2008.

Ms. K.Jyothi led B.Sc. Electronics students to the Power Station at Srisailam.

1.5. To cater to the needs of young entrepreneurs, a Certificate Course in Functional

English and Personality Development was conducted for students from12-11-’08 to 31-12-’08.

1.6 Days of importance were observed by different departments of U.G. and PG involvingthe staff and students.

3. INNOVATIONS IN CURRICULUM DESIGN AND TRANSACTIONSA format with 20 questions was prepared to obtain feedback from academic peers, andstudents on curriculum development. The feedback was discussed thoroughly atdepartment meetings, staff council and a detailed report was submitted by the Principal tothe Management for the follow up.

Semester System was launched for degree students with 20 percent internalevaluation and 80 percent external evaluation.

PG programmes have been continuing under Semester System.

Examination Reforms were implemented in the college by conducting class tests,monthly tests, quarterly, half-yearly, and model examinations.

Marks obtained by the students were displayed on the notice boards of therespective Departments and the students who were below average were offeredremedial coaching. To sum it up, CIE (Continuous Internal Evaluation) has beenmade more responsive to measure all the scholastic achievements of thestudents.

Mr. P.Gopichand and Ms. P.Nagasuseela conducted a workshop onTechniques in Teaching Phonetics for College Lecturers working in andaround Guntur. The workshop was conducted at JKCC on 22.08.2008. 58lecturers and teachers working in and around Guntur participated in theworkshop.

Mr. P.Gopichand and Ms. P.Nagasuseela conducted another Workshopon Organizing Skills on the campus of JKCC on 12-09-2008. 650 studentsparticipated in the workshop. A Hand Book for All Occasions wasreleased by Dr. K. Basavapunnaiah at a special meeting.

They conducted another workshop on Speaking Skills at RVR College ofEducation, Guntur on 21-11-2008.

Mr. P.Gopichand and Ms. P.Naga Suseela conducted a Summer Camp onBasic English Grammar through Songs, Fun and Activities at Dr KLPPublic School. A hundred students of heterogeneous group gotbenefited from this course. The course lasted from 28-04-2009 to 23-05-2009.

The Department of Oriental Languages conducted a National Seminar onThe Relevance of Jyothishyam in 21st Century at J.K.C College on 5th

and 6th February, 2009.

A Poster Making Competition on Poverty and Nature was conducted on 23-02-2009 without any entry fee. 53 Students from different schools and collegesparticipated in this competition. Certificates and prizes were distributed amongthe participants and winners of the competition on the same day.

CAREER GUIDANCE

The Career Guidance Cell conducted a programme on Numerical Ability by Sri Raman in theCollege Auditorium on 3-3-2009. 210 students attended it.

Camp held at Balpahr, Orissa from 3-10-2008 to 14-10-2008. CPL.D.Kiran Kumarof II B.Sc, R.No: 133 participated in National Integration Camp held at DhanKanal, Orissa, from 14-10-2008 to 23-10-2008

JUO.S.Venkateswarlu of III B.Sc., R.No 234, CPL.J.Suresh of II B.Sc R.No.146 andCPL.Ch.Bhanu Chaitanya Krishna of II BCA R.No 1133 participated in Pre-RDC-Iheld at Secundrabad from 14-10-2008 to 23-10 2008.

Our cadets rendered service to the society by organizing Clean and GreenProgramme on 3-12-2008 at Urban Health Centre, Tufan Nagar, to make thesociety healthy.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized by our cadets on 4-12-2008 at ourcollege auditorium. Dr K. Basavapunnaiah, President of our college and the NESinaugurated the camp and conveyed his best wishes to the cadets donatingblood to the needy people with the motto Live and Let Live.

Twenty five smart cadets of our college attended the Armed Forces Flag Dayceremony on 8-12-2008 held at Zilla Sainik Welfare Office, Guntur. Our cadetscollected an amount of Rs.18,239 for Flag Day Fund from the public and fromour college students. We have received a letter of appreciation from SainikWelfare Officer appreciating the cadets’ team work.

Smt. D. Purandeswari, Minister for HRD, Govt. of India, graced the NationalSeminar on 29-12-2008 at our esteemed college. Our NCC cadets presentedGuard of Honour to Hon’ble minister Smt. D.Purandeswari on this occasion.Lt.T.Raghavendra Rao acted as conducting officer and Sgt.Ch. Bhavan ChaitanyaKrishna received a word of appreciation from the Hon’ble minister.

N Cpl.K.Girish Kumar of II B.Sc. R.No 162 participated in National IntegrationCamp held at Tirupati from 8-1-2009 to 17-1-2009.

JUO S.Venkateswarlu of III B.Sc. R.No: 234 represented our college in theRepublic Day Parade -2009 at New Delhi.

Our college management has announced a cash award of Rs.2000 toS.Venkateswarlu.

JUO.S.Venkateswarlu of III B.Sc. received Prime Minister’s Banner of RDC-2009from Lt. Gen. R.K.Karwal, DG NCC, on 29-01-2009 at New Delhi.

July 2008 Enrolment of Volunteers at college level

11-07-2008 World Population Day was observed. Our college N.S.S. Volunteersparticipated in clean and green programme at our college ground.

09-08-2008 Our college NSS programme officers conducted the awareness programme forvolunteers on the theme of Youth for Swatchhatha

16-09-2008 International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer was observed by thevolunteers. 50 Volunteers participated.

24-09-2008 NSS Day was observed on 24th September by all the units of the college. Ourcollege NSS volunteers participated in communal harmony. NSS volunteerscollected Rs.4,203 and sent the amount to National Foundation CommunalHarmony Organization, New Delhi.

01-12-2008 World AIDS Day was observed by all the three NSS units. Our volunteersconducted an awareness rally on AIDS.

04-12-2008 Our college students and NSS volunteers of three units participated in a megaBlood Donation Camp. The blood samples are collected and sent to the LionsClub.

09-12-2008 A special camp was organized at Adavitakkelapadu village and Summer Pet. 150NSS Volunteers participated and conducted various activities like cleaning theroads and drainage canals, removing the thorny bushes and educating the localpeople on Adult Education, Health, Nutritious Food and AIDS.

ECOCLUB

A programme was conducted on the occasion of Anti-Smoking Day in the CollegeAuditorium on 12-12-2008. Our college Secretary and Correspondent Sri J. Narendernathhas inaugurated a Poster on prohibition of smoking and delivered a lecture on theoccasion. Dr K.V.N.B.Kumar, Principal, Sri S.R.K.Prasad, Director, PGCourses, SriM.Rajendra Prasad, Secretary, Global Environment and Ecology Protection Services, ProfK.Hemadri, Senior Scientist were among the participants. The programme wasconducted in association with GEEPS organisation.

On the occasion of Energy Conservation Week, a rally was conducted on 17-12-2008.The students of JKCCollege actively involved in this programme by carrying banners andplay cards, shouting slogans regarding the protection and saving of environment andenergy. This rally proceeded to JKC Nagar, Vikas Nagar, Gujjanagundla and nearby placesof JKCCollege and sensitised people on energy conservation. This rally was followed byDr K.V.N.B.Kumar, Principal, Sri S.R.K.Prasad, Director, PGCourses, Eco-Club Vice-Chairman and other teaching staff.

A rally was conducted on 31-1-2008 and proceeded from JKCCollege premises to JKCNagar, SVN Colony, Udyog Nagar and nearby places. The motto of this rally was topromote greenery and plantation in Guntur and nearby places. This procession wasfollowed by Dr K.V.N.B.Kumar, Principal, Sri S.R.K.Prasad, Director, PGCourses, Dr Daniel,Eco-Club Vice-Chairman, Mr V.Srikanth, Lecturer in Zoology, and other teaching staff.Awareness was generated in the public about the subject.

22. IQAC IQAC conducted a NAAC-Sponsored National Seminar on Impact of

Technology on Higher Education at JKC College on 2nd and 3rd Aug., 2008.

31. ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORT FROM THE PARENT –TEACHER ASSOCIATION Parents visited the college on intimation of their wards’ progress

through phone or post card.

These interactive sessions helped the parents in getting a feedbackabout their wards. The information in the interactive sessions helpedthe parents to monitor their children.

During the course of Parent-Teacher Association meetings, parentsconstantly interacted with the mentors.

Appropriate remedial steps were initiated as per the suggestions of theparents.

The management arranged a novel method of getting information aboutthe ward by the parents by just dialling 2214368. They could getinformation about marks and attendance.

32. HEALTH SERVICESDr. Sudha Devi, Lady Doctor and Mr Sadasiva Rao, RMP were appointed to look after thehealth of our students. Free medicines were given to the poor and needy. The ladydoctor monitored the medical camps regularly on our college campus.

Our college cricket team Boys were winners in ANU Intercollegiate WestZone Cricket Tournament and went up to semifinals of central zone.

With great enthusiasm and expertise, the members of our collegecricket team excelled in Eenadu Champion Cup Cricket Tournament.They were winners at District Level and at Regional Level. They securedthird place at the State Level.

Mr.Jayaprakasa Rao of III B.A. and Amar Singh Naik Bhukya of II B.Sc.secured second place in the Best Physique Competitions at AcharyaNagarjuna University Inter Collegiate Competitions.

Mr.B. Bhaskar of I B.A. secured first place in 400 mts. hurdles, secondplace in high jump and third place in 110 mts hurdles and T. BalakrishnaReddy of I B.A. secured second place in Pole Vault in ANUIC AthleticMeet 2008-09.

In the ANU Athletic Meet, in the events of 400mts. Hurdles, High Jump,Pole Vault, 110mts. Hurdles students got One First Place, Two SecondPlaces and One Third Place.

In ANU Best Physique Competitions, under 60Kgs and 80Kgs weightcategories students got the second place.

Chandus’ Cup Cricket Tournament

Chandus’ Cricket Tournament for AP College Teachers has been being conducted for thelast 13 years in memory of Late Sri J. Chandramouli, Founder President, JKC College andhis grandson Late Master J. Chandramouli. This year 14th tournament was organizedfrom 28-1-’09 to 31-1-’09. 17 teams participated in the tournament. Preparation of relevant reading material for certain subjects taught inthe institution. To begin with, reading material for the English subjectsfor certain classes was prepared, printed and distributed among thestudents of various classes.

A plan was in progress for the preparation of the material forcompetitive examinations to help the students to face variouscompetitive examinations successfully.

Training for Competitive Examinations

The college chalked out a plan to train its students for competitiveexaminations by conducting classes on long term basis. Theexaminations include RRB, POs for Public Sector Banks, Income Tax ITOfficers and Central Excise Inspectors etc.

Guidance and Tips in facing Interviews

The institution provided guidance for the successful students at thecompetitive examinations with useful tips. For this purpose weconducted practical sessions for the students in facing the interviews.

On World Literacy Day (8-9-2008) the Department conducted Elocution and EssayWriting Competitions on the topic Andariki Chaduvu. 20 students participated inelocution and 30 students participated in essay writing competitions. Ten teamsparticipated in the Quiz Competition.

On 24-09-2008 the Department conducted a quiz on Indian Heritage and Culture inwhich 9 teams participated.

On Nehru Jayanthi (14-11-2008) 30 students participated in Kathacheppandi. Dr. JJKBapuji, Rtd. Vice-Principal, Hindu College, Guntur, delivered a guest lecture on Pothana-Bhagavatha Visistatha at JKCC on 02-12-2008.
