Campus Recruitment Process

Jabalpur Engineering College or JEC Jabalpur formerly known as Government Engineering

College or GEC Jabalpur, was established on 7July 1947.

JEC outgrew when the entire global chess board was witnessing a dramatic change. It was

born just a few months before India broke the shackles of British slavery.

This illustrious Institution got the distinction of being the Second Engineering College in

India and is the premier institution of Engineering Education in Central India. Thanks

to the inspired vision of the great pioneering Principal Dr. S.P. Chakravarti. From a very

small room in old Robertson College, this tiny icon has grown into a mighty oak tree,

which is now 71 years old and has celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2007.

The college since its inception has a well-equipped High Voltage Laboratory and

Telecommunication Department which was not available in any other contemporary

colleges. Even before the advent of Television in the country, Telecommunication Lab

was established in this college. The former has been made as one of the Centers of

Excellence by Govt. of India in recognition of its contribution in the area of High-Voltage

research and testing. It is getting grants from government of India to further promote

its research and development activities. The college also has the distinction of being the

first in India to offer BE degree in E&TC

Jabalpur Engineering College in its 70 years of glorious existence has carved a unique niche for itself in the annals of technical education in M.P. The college since its inception has a well-equipped High Voltage Laboratory and several other well advanced Laboratories.

Since then the college has achieved several mile stones living up to its motto ‘on wards on wings’ .Very recently the institution has proved its mettle by becoming a Lead Institution under Technical Education Quality improvement program (TEQIP) .We have added one more feather in our cap by achieving Academic Autonomy .

I am confident that the graduating engineers will strive to build India a nation which will be proud of her independence, powerful in her defense, self-reliant in industry and technology

I close my message with a saying from Theodore Roosevelt: “The best prize that life offers is the chance of working hard at work, worth doing."

By Aug 2018, JEC will have a total of 2800 students (of which almost 30% will be female

students), and 177 faculty members. JEC’s sanctioned research funding for nearly 60 plus

sponsored projects. JEC has strong industry collaboration – we collaborate with nearly 50

industries.

On the academic front JEC is innovating and scaling up while maintaining quality, we have

B.Tech. Programs in 7 engineering departments, MSc in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

There is strong emphasis on interdisciplinary academics. JEC has implemented a very novel

academic program referred to as, Fractal Academics – the key idea is to atomize courses, provide

breadth and depth, emphasize courses the liberal arts as well as the creative arts, emphasize

project work, and create an interactive learning ambience. In this approach the students will be

well equipped to handle challenges of any job or challenges of post graduate education. JEC

offers a Minor in Entrepreneurship to all students, a double major, and hardworking and

enthusiastic student can get two B.Tech degrees. Students at JEC can enrich their knowledge by

opting for a minor and/or an honors program.

The curricula for the undergraduate and postgraduate students are

comprehensive and they ensure that the students gain a deeper

understanding of the fundamentals in core areas of Chemistry. The post

graduate students, in particular, undergo a rigorous training as they are

exposed to latest instrumentation techniques and synthetic

methodologies. As part of the curriculum, M.Sc. students undertake a

research project during the last two semesters, which enables them to

adapt to any advanced research or educational Programme with

considerable ease and dexterity. Our aim is to produce highly sought-after

and knowledgeable graduates for pursuing careers with the academia, the industry and the government.

The Department of Civil Engineering offers B.Tech. And M.E. Degrees along with M.E. specializations. Students

currently available for placements have background in structures,

geotechnical, water resources and environmental engineering. The

curricula for these specializations ensure proficiency in breadth of topics

as well as sufficient depth of coverage within each area. Students

graduating from the Programme are provided exposure to the latest

analysis and design software such as ABAQUS, STAAD Pro, ANSYS, Zen

Crack, FLAC 3D, PLAXIS 2D/3D and GeoStudio Professional, GMS, ERDAS,

HGA, in a state-of-the-art computational facility. The Civil Engineering

Department has a world-class faculty with education and training from

the best Universities in India and abroad. Active research is currently on-

going in the areas of Structural Strengthening, Earthquake Engineering, FRP

composites, Improved Road and Rail Performance, Ground Improvement,

Soil-Structure Interaction, Recycled Material for Construction, Waste water

treatment, Solid waste management, Remote Sensing with GIS,

Contaminant transport, Ground water flow, Surface water Hydrology and Development of Advanced

Computational Techniques. The outgoing batch of students has done internships in Tata Steel, SPCL, Keller,

apart from academic internships at other IITs. Earlier batches were hired by core companies as well as financial

firms including but not limited to L & T Constructions, Virtusa, Strata Geosystems, Vedanta, Kirby, L&T ECC,

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the

Jabalpur Engineering, Jabalpur (JEC) offers B.Tech and M.E. The CSE

Department at JEC comprises 14 young faculty members (with several

adjunct faculties from reputed academic and industry backgrounds),

where some of them are actively engaged in research areas including

theoretical computer science, algorithms, graph theory, networking,

distributed systems, compilers, machine learning, image/video

processing and big data analytics. The faculty also have huge

sponsored research projects in the application domains of cyber

physical systems, disaster management and big data analytics. The

department has risen in stature over its short existence. It also has a

sound placement record with top hiring companies in recent years

including Direct I, Yodlee, Mu sigma, IBM, etc.

The department of Electrical Engineering at JEC Jabalpur offers programs in

B.Tech and M.E. The department consists of 18 faculty members, B.Tech, and

M.E students. The department comprises a diverse group of faculty members

with varied research interests and has produced various research publications

in internationally reputed journals, and conferences. Most of the faculty

research areas are a healthy mix of traditional Electrical Engineering and

interdisciplinary research. Major areas of faculty expertize will include Micro-

electronics and VLSI, Communications and Signal Processing, Power

Electronics and Power Systems, Systems and Control. Some of the emerging

research fields will include Information Theory, Cognitive Radio/Radar, Cyber

Physical Systems, Image and Video quality Assessment, Green ICT(micro grids,

sensor networks), Power Systems and Electronics, Identification and

Estimation, Fault Diagnosis, Micro Grid/ Smart Grid, Advanced Control

Departments at institute

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an

undergraduate (B.Tech.) and postgraduate M.E. Programmes.

The department has a dynamic undergraduate curriculum which

integrates the teaching of engineering science fundamentals

along with modern industrial practices. At the post-graduate

level, the emphasis is on developing research skills for industrial

applications (M.E.) and in fundamental areas (PhD), after giving

students a strong foundation of course-work. From its

inception, the department has attracted a rich and diverse set

of talented faculty. Major areas of faculty expertise include

Acoustics, Dynamics and controls, Mechatronics, MEMS, NEMS,

Linear & Nonlinear Vibrations, FEM, Fracture Mechanics, Contact

Mechanics, Bio Mechanics, Composites, Impact Mechanics,

Process Modeling and Optimization, Manufacturing, Rapid

Prototyping, CNC Machining, Fluid Mechanics, Computational

Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Thermodynamics.

The discipline of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) has a

perfect combination of teaching and research activities pertaining to field of

Electronics and Communication. Since its inception the main objective of

discipline is to impart quality education, hands-on training and research in

the frontier areas of Electronics & Communication Engineering with broad

focus on IT enabled design and manufacturing.

The research and teaching expertise of the faculty members of the

Discipline cover the broad domain of applied and fundamental aspects of

Electronics and Communication Engineering. Interdisciplinary research

between the research groups of the discipline and with other disciplines and

institutes is also in practice

Departments at institute

The department of Information Technology at Jabalpur

Engineering College was established in the year 2000 with the

introduction of B.E. (I.T.) Programme. This Programme aims to

prepare students to either pursue a professional carrier

immediately after graduation or to continue with post graduate

studies. The discipline adopts a modern approach to teaching

wherein students are rendered in adequate academic freedom to

innovate and learn in the process. State of the art facilities

including the latest software and advanced hardware are available

in various laboratories for the use in both teaching and research.

This facilitates adequate implementation of major B.Tech projects

and for verification and validation of research results. The

curriculum of the course is reviewed and revised regularly, keeping

in view the needs of industry. Many student projects at final year are carried out in association with the

industries. The department has got well equipped laboratories for teaching, learning and research.

Industrial Production Engineering department was founded in 2000, with

specialized faculty in the area of Industrial and Production Engineering to run the

M.E. Program (Industrial and Production Engineering) for sponsored engineers

from Industry. The department of Industrial and Production Engineering, is

today one of largest department of the institute. The department is equipped

with learned faculty and modern facilities. The department has a well-equipped

central workshop that imparts basic training in various manufacturing

processes. The department is also equipped with modern laboratories of

CADCAE, FMS, Industrial Inspection, Industrial Engineering, Quantitative

Techniques and Metal Cutting and Machine Tools. Faculty members have

published more than 13 papers in the last three years, and have authored number

of books, which are popular in many engineering curriculum across the country.

B.E. program in Industrial and Production Engineering commenced in the year

2000 and M.E. program in Industrial Engineering and Management also

commenced in the same year.

• Transformer Repair Unit (TRU): The unit was inaugurated on 2 February 2006 with an objective to detect & analyze defects in

transformers which fail during impulse testing so that the transformer design can be improved. This unit has also taken up the

repairs of old distribution transformers from agencies like Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board, Military Engineering Service,

Public Works Department, Power Grid Corporation of India etc.

Jabalpur is the best exhibition of the

management and organizational skills of the

students. The internationally recognized

event is very popular among the students all

over the state. The students' active

participation in cultural, technical and literary

competitions has made it a grand success

Helix is the techno-management fest organized by the

students of JEC Jabalpur with a motto of providing a

platform to the technical enthusiasts of our country to

explore, innovate and showcase their technical and

engineering prowess. Helix started in 2011 and over the

past 3 years it has gradually evolved from an inter-

college festival to one of the most recognized techno-

management fests of the country.

Campus Life

JEC has been developed as a small township

centered on Gokalpur and Ranjhi. It has a lush green

campus of 255 acres (1.03 km2), rich in natural flora

and fauna with Robertson Lake as a background.

The campus is well connected to the city, being 13

km from the Jabalpur Airport, 6 km away from

the Jabalpur Railway Station and 9 km from the

Jabalpur Bus stand. A cafeteria called "JEC

Cafeteria” serves refreshments on campus. The

other on-campus facilities includes a State Bank of

India branch, PCO and a post office. The sporting

facilities include an athletic track, cricket field,

football field, hockey field, basketball court,

badminton court, 3 tennis courts and 8 volleyball

courts. A multi station gymnasium, open air

theatre having a capacity of 3000, two auditoriums,

an on campus college dispensary. National Cadet

Corps & National Service Scheme regional centers,

alumni center, common rooms for both girls and

boys, Computerized Library, Central Workshop. A

new auditorium named "Jashan" has recently been

constructed from the donation made by one of its

alumni. Institute has also served as the transit

office. Campus of Indian Institute of Information

Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur.

Central LibraryJabalpur Engineering College houses one of the

oldest and the largest technical libraries in India

having more than one lac ten thousand volumes of

books on science and technology including physics,

chemistry, mathematics, civil engineering, electrical

engineering, mechanical engineering, computer

science, electronics and industrial engineering.

Library also has books on humanities, competitive

exam preparation, management and social

sciences.

The institute also subscribes to more than 23,000

journals and e-journals. The library has 40

computers and 2 servers for online access.

Scholarships and awards Central / State Governments' scholarships for the welfare and promotion of ST, SC, OBC and the child of

landless agricultural labour. Physically challenged candidates are also provided with scholarships. The

students who are toppers in their branches in the seventh semester are awarded a gold medal.

Campus Life

NATIONAL CADETS CORPS (NCC) the NCC platoons of

JEC, have been consistently taking up various activities

in order to fulfil not only the basic requirements of

NCC training but also to the needs of the society in

particular & the nation in general. JEC, NCC unit is one

of the four technical units in M.P. There are two

platoons EME & Engineers which have 53 cadets each.

During the session 2009-10 two NCC camps were

organized in our college campus in which several

cadets from different places got training.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

College provides excellent facilities for many sports.

Its campus consists of a play-ground an Indoor

Basketball Court, Volley Ball ground, T.T. Tables & a

Tennis Court which encourage students to participate

in different sports. Sports persons are given incentives

in terms of certificates, cash prizes & trophies. Special

coaching is organized for players selected to represent

college at various sports events. The college team

members are provided with kit & uniforms. The team

captain & outstanding sports persons are provided

blazers. For those students who are active in sports at

various levels, attendance requirement at the college

is relaxed.
