(treat llrltittn's Forces to be Withdrawn Condition of tho Agreement Hum nf JIlfi.BOO. L.ONDON, May i. II is learned on good authority that Cireat Britain has agreed to the proposed settle- ment of her dispute with Nicaragua. The payment of the indemnity is guaranteed. It is said the affair has been practically settled. The following semi-offici- an- nouncement was made this even- ing: The statement that the Salvadoran Minister has submitted to Great Britain on behalf of Nica- ragua certain propositions is cor- rect. The matter is now being considered, and if reasonable se- curity is given for the fulfillment of any undertaking to comply with Great Britain's demands, every pro- posal in the matter will be arranged without inflicting further humilia- tion. Washington, May i. The guarantee of the payment by Nicaragua of the indemnity as re quired by Great Britain will be made in the amplest manner pos- sible, so that there appears to be no further obstacle between the two countries as to the final adjust- ment. The guarantee will be in any oue of several forms, as fol- lows: The Bank of Nicaragua, a national institution, with recog- nized standing in London, will if need be, give a guarantee. The republic of Guatemala, oue of the richest Central American states, stands ready to deposit 15,500 in a Loudon bank if Nica- ragua desires the favor. The Nicaragua Canal Company, whose word in London will be ac- ceptable in the highest financial circles, will give either a guarantee or cash if need be. Besides these guarantees, any one of which is available, and is regarded as ample, the Nicaragtian authorities are said to have actual funds immediately available with- out calling for outside help. A guarantee by the United States is not regarded as essential under the foregoing circumstances. 1 he final proposition as now con cluded between Nicaragua and Great Britain will therefore be as follows: Greaf Britain agrees tdinfmedi- - ately evacuate Corinto and with- draw her fleet. Nicaragua atrrees to pay the 15,500 in London fif- teen days from the sailing of the fleet from Corinto. FOR SALE. Nmv York, May 1; The Herald's Washington correspon dent telegraphs as follows: As to jtiiit what has transpired, between the United States and Great Brit ain touching the Nicaragua affair I obtained today some absolutely reliable information. As early as January last the State Department became aware of Great Britain's purpose of obtaining redress for the outrage perpetrated upon Consul Hatch and other British subjects. The Department was not only informed of Great Britain's inten tions of enforcing collection of the indemnity demanded, hut was politely asked, to give a prompt answer as to what the position of the united States would be. England got our reply within twenty-fou- r hours. I was to the effect that the United States would not interfere with the collection of the indemnity demanded of Nicara gua so long as Great Britiau did not attempt to possess itself of any Nicaragua!! soil or make any en croachment 011 Nicaragua!! territory beyond that absolutely, necessary to collect the amount of indemnity in customs due at Nicaragua!! ports. Equally as positive assurances that there would be no violation of these conditions were received from Great Britian. There was thus a perfect under standing between the two coun tries and Great Britain forthwith continued negotiations with the Central American republic not hampered by the slightest fear of intervention on the part of the United States. Keeping good that promise, this Government lias kept its hands off and will continue to do so as long as Great Britain does not assume to control the Nicara- - guan republic or acquire any of its possessions. linear Wllili-- . London, May 1. The jury in the Oscar Wilde case disagreed. He will have another trial at the next term of the central criminal court. nf JIlfi.BOO.

L.ONDON, May i. II is learnedon good authority that Cireat Britainhas agreed to the proposed settle-ment of her dispute with Nicaragua. The payment of the indemnity isguaranteed. It is said the affairhas been practically settled.

The following semi-offici- an-

nouncement was made this even-ing: The statement that theSalvadoran Minister has submittedto Great Britain on behalf of Nica-ragua certain propositions is cor-rect. The matter is now beingconsidered, and if reasonable se-

curity is given for the fulfillment ofany undertaking to comply withGreat Britain's demands, every pro-posal in the matter will be arrangedwithout inflicting further humilia-tion.

Washington, May i. Theguarantee of the payment byNicaragua of the indemnity as required by Great Britain will bemade in the amplest manner pos-sible, so that there appears to beno further obstacle between thetwo countries as to the final adjust-ment. The guarantee will bein any oue of several forms, as fol-

lows:The Bank of Nicaragua, a

national institution, with recog-nized standing in London, will ifneed be, give a guarantee.

The republic of Guatemala, oueof the richest Central Americanstates, stands ready to deposit

15,500 in a Loudon bank if Nica-ragua desires the favor.

The Nicaragua Canal Company, whose word in London will be ac-ceptable in the highest financialcircles, will give either a guaranteeor cash if need be.

Besides these guarantees, anyone of which is available, and isregarded as ample, the Nicaragtianauthorities are said to have actualfunds immediately available with-out calling for outside help. Aguarantee by the United States isnot regarded as essential under theforegoing circumstances.

1 he final proposition as now concluded between Nicaragua andGreat Britain will therefore be asfollows:

Greaf Britain agrees tdinfmedi- -

ately evacuate Corinto and with-draw her fleet. Nicaragua atrreesto pay the 15,500 in London fif-

teen days from the sailing of thefleet from Corinto.

Nicaragua The Understandingllearlied.

Nmv York, May 1; TheHerald's Washington correspondent telegraphs as follows: As tojtiiit what has transpired, betweenthe United States and Great Britain touching the Nicaragua affair Iobtained today some absolutelyreliable information. As early asJanuary last the State Departmentbecame aware of Great Britain'spurpose of obtaining redress for theoutrage perpetrated upon ConsulHatch and other British subjects.

The Department was not onlyinformed of Great Britain's intentions of enforcing collection of theindemnity demanded, hut waspolitely asked, to give a promptanswer as to what the position ofthe united States would be.

England got our reply withintwenty-fou- r hours. I was to theeffect that the United States wouldnot interfere with the collection ofthe indemnity demanded of Nicaragua so long as Great Britiau didnot attempt to possess itself of anyNicaragua!! soil or make any encroachment 011 Nicaragua!! territorybeyond that absolutely, necessary tocollect the amount of indemnity incustoms due at Nicaragua!! ports.Equally as positive assurances thatthere would be no violation of theseconditions were received fromGreat Britian.

There was thus a perfect understanding between the two countries and Great Britain forthwithcontinued negotiations with theCentral American republic nothampered by the slightest fear ofintervention on the part of theUnited States. Keeping good thatpromise, this Government lias keptits hands off and will continue todo so as long as Great Britain doesnot assume to control the Nicara- -

guan republic or acquire any of itspossessions.

At this season the thoughts offamilies turn to refrigerators. We could say a good deal aboutthe Alaska anu otners 111 ourstock. What we offer is economical and handy cold storage inodorless wood, minus mechan-ism, with perfect ventilation anddrainage. We have several sizesand have pleased all customersiii to date. Our round refriger.ator, made ol iron, with brassdoors, is a novelty. It is a firstclass article and may just suityou.

The Wcrtheim Sewing Machine is still one of our leaders,It holds its own in the trade. That is because we make theright figure on a machine thatdocs good work, runs light anddoes not get out of order. Werecommend the Wcrtheim andand people who know and pcopie who try, it agree with us atonce.

Now, we carry a safe. Weexert ourselves to keep a stockof Victors always on hand. Itis quite roomy, is well built ofgood metal, is handsome, is entirely sale as a repository, and, best of all, the contents are safeIrom damage by lire ii the building burns, and you know thatmay happen. The Victor is inuse in post offices in almostevery state in the United Statesand we have testimonials galoreIt is the favorite with small busincss houses, with professionalmen and is much used by nidividuals who wish to keep papersand valuables at home. It ismaking its way in the Islandshere strictly on its merits. Whenyou see it you will recognize atonce a good thing,
