Grading and Accountability for Success Grading Scale: J. R. Gerritts determines students’ grades based on academic performance and Career & Life Skill readiness. The majority of our students’ overall grade, is comprised of performance on assessed work. This includes such things as: tests, quizzes, projects, papers, homework and performances. Ten percent of a student’s grade may be reflected in the area of Career & Life Skills. Each academic department determines the criteria and evaluation method for scoring Career & Life Skills. Parents should look for a description of how their child’s teacher will assess students’ work ethic, participation and respect in the fall of the year.
Academic Grades
A+ 97-100% B+ 87-89% C+ 77-79% D 65-69% A 93-96% B 83-86% C 73-76% F 64% and below A- 90-92% B- 80-82% C- 70-72%
To be successful, students should:
Do work on time & to the best of their ability Use resources such as Infinite Campus, Google
Calendar and Google Classroom Seek help when needed Have set work time at home Have a positive & respectful attitude
Complete and turn in assignments on time Only turn in high quality, proofread work Take advantage of retakes and corrections
when available
If students are not experiencing success:
Student and teacher will meet to identify solutions Student, teacher, and family will develop a plan to promote success
The plan for success may include: Additional study time during lunch recess, or before or after school A conference, phone calls or email communication with parent Modified work Re-teaching of learning targets Alternate assessments Course changes or changes within the classroom Other strategies identified by the teacher or team
Career & Life Skills Work Ethic – The ability to be a self-motivated, prepared learner who achieves goals in a timely fashion while producing quality work. Participation – The ability to positively contribute and collaborate while working with others to achieve a common purpose or goal. Respect – The ability to appropriately and effectively communicate, be respectful and be responsible toward yourself and others while acting in the interests of the larger community of learners.
