A few things that everyone already knows...

According 98% of our DNA Humans = Apes
What makes us... Humans?
5
Humans are characterized by erect posture and bipedal locomotion; manual dexterity and increased tool use, compared to other animals; and a general trend toward larger, more complex brains and societies.
6
Our small world, as we know it, is shaped by our tools

Technological Innovation is an Evolutionary Process, that responds to social innovation.

We are the consequence of the TOOLS we use.
The concept of "civic intelligence," certainly an example of social innovation, is a response to a perceived need and the reception that it receives or doesn't receive will be in proportion to its perceived need by others.
This certainly resonates with George Basalla's findings related to technological innovation,[6] which simultaneously facilitates and responds to social innovation.
https://muse.jhu.edu/login?auth=0&type=summary&url=/journals/technology_and_culture/v043/43.2basalla.html This book presents an evolutionary theory
of technological change based upon recent scholarship in the history of technology and upon relevant material drawn from economic history and anthropology. It challenges the popular notion that technology advances by the efforts of a few heroic individuals who produce a series of revolutionary inventions owing little or nothing to the technological past. Therefore, the book's arguement is shaped by analogies taken selectively from the theory of organic evolution, and not from the theory and practice of political revolution

Technologies are shaping us through the cogniIve (connected) devices we are using

Surprised? LOVE might be the final UX strategy to seduce and retain users. …luckily we are not yet there…

When SCI-‐FI AGE

When We live on the border between Cloud FOG compuIng and the IoT Age. At this stage of technological evoluIon, being connected is a Darwinian issue for a product: a key element for it, to live long and prosper.

The autopilot service is constantly learning, thanks to machine learning algorithms, detailed mapping and sensor data, and the car’s wireless connection. Tesla leverages these informations from its entire fleet autopilot-enabled cars. Meaning, it operates as a network so when one car learns something, they all learn it.

AcceleraIon changes everything
BILLION of connected objects are knocking to our doors
19
Placing an object in a pocket, in a car, on a desktop or in customer’s homes means to create a personal, bi-‐direcIonal, always-‐on, communicaCon channel.
BUSINESS is PUSHING IoT
21
The INTERNET OF THINGS bridges both the physical and digital worlds, permiang the power of the internet to reach everywhere humanity.
We are already living a world wide conversaIon that includes our tools
22
Our Connected Objects started helping us to tell stories…
23
24
We evolve sharing
stories
25
Who is actually taking the picture? Are you smiling? Are your eyes open? Who added locaIon? Who added metadata?
Smartphones are supporIng your storytelling…
26
What is real? Who is the arFst? Algorithm is acIvely proposing a specific way to tell the story…
27
Is this an incepFon? From where the SELFIE habit come from? Why do you want to share this picture with “social” friends? We are the consequence of the tools we use Mutual influence, induced need, incepIon

CollecCng Data Connected objects are usually smart enough to play an automaCc behavior. For example, make a detecIon each “x” minutes, or take a picture each Ime there is a specific condiIon, etc.
AutomaIc memories are almost a story. In fact, starIng from a simple acIon repeated in Ime, is easy to create a visualizaIon that supports a specific storytelling.
32
Organizing Data Visualizing informaIon is already a first picture of a story. The right visualizaIon is powerful way to influence users. Fitness bracelets records what we do every day. This extended memory, visualized through a dashboard, is able to make our behavior measurable and more understandable. At the same Ime, the new automaCc, visual and mathemaCcal language of these automaCc memories is already part of a brand new kind of storytelling.
Your dashboard is a representaIon of you. You are your dashboard. You might desire to achieve a be3er result.

From interacCon to relaConship Luka is an app that gives recommendaIons in a chat interface. Users can message with quesIons like “Anything fun to do tonight?” Luka then processes those requests and sends back recommendaIons that are based not only on the request itself but your history and preferences.
Luka’s storytelling is influencing your choices
34
Lived conversaCon Today’s 3.0 update to the Telegram apps makes interacIng with bots super-‐easy. In most cases you won’t even have to type anything, because bots will provide you with a set of custom bu3ons. Bots are simply Telegram accounts operated by soUware – not people – and they'll oUen have AI features. They can do anything – teach, play, search, broadcast, remind, connect, integrate with other services, or even pass commands to the Internet of Things.

A new way of knowledge Quartz bot is an app that interacts with you, offering up news stories which you can choose to get more informaIon about or move on to the next.
People don’t read the news anymore? Let’s allow computers to build stories that might fit the users short a3enIon span.

exactly like CARS that are learning to DRIVE.

Storyteller objects are already influencing the scene. Younger generaCons are seeing faces instead screens...
The incoming communicaIon will be a relaIonship in which objects emerge -‐from the Fog-‐ as real enCCes.

What designers should design, today?
41
42
THINGS are evolving faster than we might expect
Push design boundaries to new territories. Embrace and celebrate diversity.
Be much more than a “pixel shaper”.
43
44
What designers should design, today?
Behaviors, Data, Conversations, Mutual Learning, Stories…
45
What designers should design, today?
#Life #IoT, #cognitivecomputing, #robots, #worlds, #artificiallife …
46
KK: “what technology wants… is what LIFE wants”
Yes, Life
47
This is NOT a “business like usual” moment into the design industry.
People expectaIons are shaped by consumer technologies.
48
49
The incoming stories, crafted together with our connected objects, will make History of computing and society (soon).
50
There is life BEYOND the PIXELS, BEYOND the FRAME of the screen…
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. (Derek Zoolander)
51
Infuse HUMANITY into everything (or everything it will evolve without it)
The Big Opportunity, today is to…
