iX1 SOFTWARE OVERVIEW

iX1 is INOVA’s new and enhanced software and computing platform for cable, nodal and transition zone operations. iX1 provides a singular and

intuitive user interface to support scaling from small standalone systems to large hybrid seismic acquisition projects and comprises a full featured

Seismic Operational Management System that includes software and hardware elements for all aspects of vibroseis and impulsive source

configuration, control, QC and monitoring and a Download and Data Management System which includes software and hardware elements for all

aspects of nodal data download, transcription, system configuration, vibroseis correlation, QC, survey, layout and pick-up. In addition, iX1 includes

Field software that runs on rugged, handheld field tools for ground equipment hardware and data QC and computers installed in vibroseis vehicles for

navigation and source control interface.

The iX1 software is typically executed on two primary computers in the system; the Seismic Processing Module (SPM) and the Transcriber

Processing Module (TPM). iX1 Acquisition software on the SPM is the command and control center of the system with unique QC and operational

features designed to maximize productivity and conduct a quality seismic survey. The iX1 Transcription software executed on the TPM provides highly

efficient data download from nodal stations, reordering the data and file generation to create receiver and shot gathers, outputting data per client

requirements, data merge for hybrid systems and geophysical data QC. Flexibility of the iX1 system architecture allows computer configurations based

on user application determined by the type of system being deployed such as cable, transition zone, nodal or hybrid.

SEISMIC OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

iX1 Acquisition software running on the SPM is used for command and control of deployed stations, either cable, nodal or hybrid spreads. In addition,

iX1 software includes integrated source control software for all types of source production including dynamite, standard vibroseis and High Productiv-

ity Vibroseis (HPVS), including Slip-Sweep, DS3 and DS4 methods, defined by licensing options. All functions for project setup, acquisition and quality

control of seismic survey data are supported in iX1 Acquisition software. The SPM computer is running Windows server with 24TB internal RAID, sup-

ports up to 4 monitors and a variety of output media devices including LTO4/5/6 tape drives, IBM 3592 optical tape drives, and 1 and 10GbE Network

Attached Storage (NAS) drives.

IX1 MAP

iX1 Map is used to define parameters for the 2D or 3D seismic survey

including source/receiver coordinates and shooting template. The

parameters can be imported from SEGP1, SPS or PRJ files, assigned

as a sub-project. Field devices are assigned on the map as the

equipment is laid out. These can include any combination of cable

station, transition zone stations and nodal stations. All stations

types are displayed and managed from a single iX1 Map display

allowing the complete project to be viewed and managed from a

single display. In addition, background images can be loaded to

provide project aware context relative to the field operation.

SOURCE QC

Source QC uses information contained in the PSS and PFS data to provide

production statistics and user-friendly production QC visualization. The

program automatically switches modes to display PSS data for vibroseis

operation and PFS data for dynamite production. This feature greatly

simplifies mixed vibroseis/dynamite operations allowing both types of

production to be managed from a single screen.

iX1 DATA QC

Example iX1 Data QC Display

iX1 Data QC is a feature-packed,easy to use data QC software tool and

includes the following:

• Live traces are analyzed for RMS Signal, Noise, SNR and adjacent trace

correlation, results are presented as information-rich pixels, color

indicates user dictated pass/fail criteria, shade indicates signal

amplitude levels; an observer can quickly and reliably QC tens of

thousands of receiver points at a glance.

• PatchviewTM is integrated with more traditional QC displays including

real or screen-simulated “Paper Plots”, trace-by-trace RMS, noise, or

SN plots and first-break analysis.

• Allows observers to click on any trace, either in Patchview or screen

plot, to receive detailed station information or to add comments to

the project database for that trace.

• Provides shot histograms for RMS amplitude and noise, allowing QC

personnel to quickly assess the impact of changing field conditions on

data quality.

• Patchview provides real time shot-by-shot analysis, reporting

and logging of valid vs. invalid traces for contract compliance

monitoring.

• FRAM provides frequency and amplitude analysis including

deconvolution, filter paneling; AGC, exponential or

fixed scaling, correlation, cross-correlation, f-k spectra, and a

host of plotting options.

• GDC (Geophysical Data Characterization) provides real-time

and histogram analysis of geophysical attributes on a trace-

by-trace, shot-by-shot or bin-by-bin basis and can present

simple pass-fail criteria to the observer or rich statistical data

to sophisticated QC personnel.

IN-FIELD OPERATIONAL TOOLS

iX1 Field software runs on purpose-built, portable computers designed for rugged field operations. The type of hardware depends on the intended use

in the field. These include handheld QCTools for collecting node status information and/or sample seismic data, shock-mounted computers/tablets in

vibroseis vehicles for navigation and vibe control interface and Autonomous QC modules designed to mount on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or

crew vehicles for node status collection.

iX1 Acquisition software includes the ability to synchronize data between field tools and the iX1 system. For example, as QCTools are traversed through

the spread specified information is collected from the field stations automatically over a wireless connection and stored in QCTool memory. The QCTool

information is then available on the iX1 system for use in map displays and station QC purposes. A similar process is used to synchronize information

from Autonomous QC modules and vibrator navigation computers.

“INOVA’s new iX1 software in conjunction with Vib Pro HD were key contributors to the success of our Hawk slip-sweep project. The ease of

use of iX1’s Acquisition software front end with simplified workflows and user-friendly HPVS menus enabled our crew to conduct the survey

in a highly efficient manner. On the back end, with 30,000 channels live on the project, the iX1 Transcription software provided very fast data

download and transcription that greatly expedited our ability to perform data QC and delivery to our client.”
