Tips  for  Introverts  (and  maybe  the  rest  of  us!)

• You  can  either  spend  your  life  running  from  it,  or  face  it  head  on  • Have  a  script,  but  don’t  write  it  down  • The  sharing  mindset  • Be  careful  with  Powerpoint/Keynote  • Get  the  worst  one  out  of  the  way  • The  only  cure  for  insecurity  is  experience

Before  you  speak

1.    Select  a  topic  • Based  on  your  interests  &  audience

2.    Prepare  an  outline  or  mind  map  • Organize  it  like  a  research  paper

3. Make  the  introduction  interesting  • Ask  a  question  or  tell  a  story

4. Transfer  the  outline  to  note  cards  • Keep  key  points  separate

Addressing  anxiety• Let  go  of  perfect

• View  mistakes  dispassionately  • You  can’t  make  everyone  happy  • Mistakes  are  learning  opportunities

• Visualize  desired  outcome  • Avoid  negative  anticipation  • Use  humor,  relaxation,  singing,  walking,  etc.  • “Begin  with  the  end  in  mind…”

• Prepare  positively  • Speak  about  something  you  love  • Remember  that  you  know  more

More  anxiety  management

• Get  some  rest  and  avoid  complexities  • Avoid  mood-‐altering  substances  &  eat  lightly  • Remember  to  breathe  • Focus  on  friendly  faces  • It  won’t  kill  you…and  it  might  make  you  stronger!  • The  more  you  do  it,  the  less  anxious  you  become
