LazioRome dominates the region of Lazio offering visitors history,culture and beauty in abundance. Full of monuments to ancientglories and reminders of hundreds of years of civilization, Romeis timeless and eternal.

The landscape of Lazio varies from the rolling, green,wooded hills in the north to the scenic mountainousslopes of the south. The best beaches lie in theParco Nazionale del Circeo between Terracina andGaeta near to the neighbouring region of Campania.

Additionally, the lakes ofBracciano, Vico and Bolsenaare perfect for swimming during the hot summer monthsand serve as the best alternatives to the less attractivecoastal areas of Lazios northern region.

Ideally placed in the very heart of the region and,indeed the country, is Rome, the capital and centreof government, separating the north from the south.The sights to see are many, including the magnicentColosseum, the Pantheon, St Peters Square and Basilica,Michelangelos Sistine Chapel, the Spanish Steps, theTrevi Fountain and the animated Piazza Navona. There isso much to do that the longest stay is always too short.

All roads lead to Rome, as does the main railway system,which makes day trips from the capital an easy option.Within easy reach is Hadrians Villa in Tivoli (40km east)and the well-preserved Roman site at Ostia Antica(26km southwest), a former ancient port. Further aeld,

and accessible by car, are the notable Benedictinemonasteries ofSubiaco and Montecassino.

Two international airports serve the region. Fiumicino(Leonardo Da Vinci airport) is on the southwest coastconnected by rail to the centre of Rome which receivesscheduled airlines and Ciampino, which is used by charterairlines, located 16km southeast of Rome.
