Poznań.IT IS GREAT TO LIVE HERE.
Poznań
is the capital of Wielkopolska (Greater Poland)
the region known in Poland for its hard- working and thrifty people. The
population of the city is about 580,000 people. It is among the most investment-attractive Polish cities, with the lowest investment risk. Poznań
is
situated on the most important European transit route, which connects Moscow and Warsaw with Berlin, London and Paris, and the city nicely uses the opportunities provided by geography and history.
Poznań
is a city of business
Poznań
is developing dynamically and the unemployment rate in the city is one of the lowest in the country. It is a lively metropolis. Famous Poznań
International Fair takes place here. And after a busy day you can relax on the shores of the only lake in Poland situated in the center of the city –
the
Malta lake, or go shopping in the most beautiful Shopping Center in the world –
Stary
Browar. After winning the title “The Best European Shopping Center”, on December, 9th
2005 Stary
Browar
was presented the award “the World’s Most Outstanding Shopping Center (medium-
size)”
by International Council of Shopping Centers.
Poznań
is one of the oldest Polish cities
It is “the cradle of Poland”
as Pope John Paul II said. In the 10th
century the first Polish Duke Mieszko
I liked the town of
Poznań
and built here the biggest castle in the country. Poznań
was the first
capital of Poland, sharing the title with Gniezno.
Poznań
is a multiethnic and multicultural city
Germans, Jews, Italians, Greeks, Hungarians and Scots lived in Poznań. Tolerance and practical approach to life, typical for many generations of inhabitants of the city, made possible the unprecedented phenomenon of Poznań
Bamber
settlers. It is the story of German settlers who came to live in the city from the area of Bamberg (Upper Franconia, Germany) in the beginning of the 18th
centuryand assimilated voluntarily with the Polish population of the city, creating a united and harmonious society, able to face difficulties of life.
Poznań
is a city of culture
In 2016 one of the Polish cities will get the title of the European Capital of Culture. Who knows -
maybe it will be Poznań?
The city hosts International Theater Festival “Malta”, International Modern Dance Workshops, Henryk
Wieniawski
International Violin Competition. Many international festivals, concerts, happenings, exhibitions in museums and galleries, shows, presentations and open air parties take place here and the city lives a life full of vitality. This is a great place to live and work, a city that creates new opportunities for everyone.
Poznań
is a city of education
The schools and universities of Poznań are among the best in Poland. In the
city, which is the third largest (taking into consideration the number of students) academic and scientific center in Poland, there are 26 higher education institutions, which provide education for almost 130 thousands of students. There are 221 students for 1,000 people in Poznań
and every year about 25
thousands students graduate from Poznań’s
higher education institutions
and universities. Academic staff of Poznań
universities is about 8,000
people, almost 1,000 of them are scientists holding the title of professor.
History of Poznań
University of Technology
The history of the first Polish technical higher education institution began in 1919 when People’s Leading Council founded Higher State School of Mechanical Engineering.
In 1921 in the “Wiadomości
Techniczne”
newspaper “Appeal to the Authorities to establish Poznań
University of Technology”
appeared. The document included the reasons for creation such type of school.
Established in 1919, Higher State School of Mechanical Engineering was renamed Higher State School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and in 1930 the Faculty of Electrical Engineering began functioning. In 1937 the Ministry of Education formally agreed to establish Poznań
University of Technology, but the beginning of World War II disturbedthe plans.
After the war the efforts to establish a polytechnics in Poznań
were continued:
Organizational Committee of Poznan University of Technology was formed. It formulated the plan and the grounds to set up a new university.
School of Engineering was founded. Three faculties – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Civil Engineering made up the school.
In 1953 in a new site (today it is the Piotrowo Campus) a building to house Faculty of Civil Engineering was completed. In September 1953 Faculty of Agriculture Mechanization was set up.
1955 was the year of the big change – Poznan School of Engineering was transformed into Poznań University of Technology according to the order of the Minister of Higher Education.
