The news have to use accurate information in their news reports to getstories across to the country. They make there information accurate so thatpeople in their countries know what is going on in their country and what ishappening globally around the world.

Generally documentary makers use accurate information in thedocumentary with statistics and facts to make their documentary havecreditability, however the documentary makers do tend to drift off accuracyand use their own opinion or exaggerate the accurate information. Forexample Michael moore gives plenty of accurate information in hisdocumentary but he is also biased to one side of the argument.

In news programs they have a balanced argument for every bit of news and they use both side of the argument. They talk to bothsides of the argument and don¶t make judgements and leave it upto the audience to decide.

Documentary film makers are normally one sided as they are tryingto prove their point. For example in super size me Morgan Spurlocktries to create a balanced argument throughout the documentarybut his main aim is to show that eating McDonalds food can affectyour health and you shouldn¶t eat it. So really the documentary

cannot be balanced as the whole point of the documentary is a biastoward Morgan spurlocks opinion.

The news are expected to give global and local news which has nobias or opinion and it presented in the truth. In the news theyshould never give their personal opinion and be bias to any storyand should leave it up the audience to decide on what they think

about the story.

Documentary filmmakers try to be impartial but the objective of their documentaries is to convince people to believe in theiropinion so even if they try to make the documentary truthful andfactual they give their own opinions and sometimes exaggerated

stats. For example Morgan superlock who made super size metried to make the documentary impartial and have no bias. However his main objective was to show McDonalds food is bad foryou so therefore his documentary cannot be impartial as he isalready biased and has his opinion on the subject matter.

Objectivity is when you give an argument or point based on facts. Innews programs they give stories based on facts they are given, sothat they can provide truthful information to the audience. BBC newsalways give objective information when they report the storythemselves.

Documentary filmmakers use some objectivity in their documentariesbut normally give their own. Documentary film makers like Michaelmoore who made bowling for columbine give facts but a lot of opinion as he is passionate about the subject matter, however Louie

Theroux is very clever as he never gives his opinion on a subject andleaves it up to the viewer.

News programs are not subjective as they are meant to give truthfulinformation based on facts. They do however sometimes get a personfrom one side of the argument to give an opinion but the news doesn'tsuggest you have to believe this opinion it is up to you what your

opinion is.

Documentary filmmakers in their documentaries use subjectivematerial in their documentaries so they can back up their facts withtheir opinion and why their opinion is right. For example Michaelmoore gives facts and statistics but also gives his opinion on the facts

and statistics.

Documentaries filmmakers generally give their opinion in documentarieseven though they still use facts. For example Morgan spurlock is one sided inhis argument in super size me so even when he gives facts it isovershadowed by an opinion. However another famous documentary

filmmaker called Louis Theroux he never gives his own opinion.

In the news they only get opinions from someone who comes into the studioto talk about a certain news stories, for example if they get a politician inthey question them about everything which leads to viewer to decide if thepoliticians views are right.

In the news they cannot be bias in what they broadcast the news as theyhave to give truthful information. The only time they have any bias towards acertain news stories is when someone who is one side of the argument of thenews stories give an opinion.

Documentary filmmakers try to not to be biased but when there objective of the documentary is one side of an argument it is impossible not to be biasedin the documentary. For example in super size me made by Morgan spurlockhis objective is to prove McDonalds is bad for you so his documentary isalready biased even if he tries to make it balanced.

Many people think that documentary is a representation of reality, simplybecause they assume that this type of film is recording factual events orregarding factual subjects. they often think that documentary is identicalwith objectivity, thus it should be objective. Well, they are wrong.Documentary is not a representation of reality, but it is the film maker¶s

representation of our historical world. What is conveyed in the film is thefilm maker¶s point of views or arguments, and what makes it adocumentary is because the representation is concerning on social mattersor issues the filmmaker is talking about. For example in bowling forcolumbine which was made by Michael moore he talks about gun violenceand gun ownership In the USA. Moore uses the shooting incident at

Columbine High School as a case to begin his arguments. He has his ownanswers to his questions and he attempts to make his viewers believe onhim. Briefly saying, he wants the viewers to think that he is right.

Documentary filmmakers have to get permission from the local council tofilm in their area or stateMake the council aware they are making a documentary. They also whenthey film people theyHave to get permission from the person if they want their face or identity

to be known, this could beDue to the persons safety or legal reasons.

The news reporters have to make sure the person wants to be filmed andwhen they film a storyParticularly abroad they have to make sure they have permission to film

in those areas otherwiseYou can get in trouble with local authorities etc.

This when the documentary filmmakers has to have a contract withviewer to state this information and statistics are truthful. Also they willstate if they are using a recreation in a certain scene in thedocumentary they normally do this is panorama, they normally say it isa recreation before the scene is shown to make sure everyone knows it

is not real.

News programmes have an unwritten law that says for them not to lieabout stories they publish in their news program. They can sometimesbend the truth to make it seem more favourable to what they want theaudience to hear.
