Dear parents and carers, staff, students and community members,
The WA Day Public Holiday on Monday will be a well earned break as we are at the half way mark of this eleven week term. We have received some great news this week with the announcement that Little Grove Primary School has been given the opportunity to participate in the NAPLAN Online Trial. This means that the school receives 31 brand new laptops –free of charge, to keep and utilise across the school. At a value of over $31,000 this is a huge and welcome bonus to our school. Our Year 6 students will be having a visit from North Albany Senior High School staff members on Tuesday 2 June 2015. This is a great information session for students who will be heading to High School in 2016. Students will be given information on what to expect at High School and the courses and activities they have to look forward to a NASHS. This is a good opportunity for students to ask any questions they have about attending high school. Students will also be given enrolment information on this day and we ask for your assistance in returning all the relevant information in a timely manner. Students have been training for this term’s Cross Country events during their physical education classes. We congratulate all those students who are giving their best efforts in this event and encourage everyone to just give it a go. You will see your fitness increase each week if you persist with giving your best efforts. Speaking of giving their best effort , our Eagles Cup team are off to a fantastic start to this year’s Eagle Cup Round. Last week Little Grove played Spencer Park and finished the game on top with a score of 96 to 34 . We kicked 7 goals in a strong finish in the final term All team members are putting in their best efforts and their sportsmanship is a credit to them and our school. Special mention to Toby, Josh, Ben and Jack. Cooper for his tackles and Connor for goal of the year! Keep up the great work. A huge thank you to Toby’s mum for washing the jumpers and making us a great new set of goal flags !
Our P&C have once again been working hard for our school community. Thank you to all those who baked and assisted at the cake stall last Saturday. The Virtual Balloon race is in full swing, make sure you check out the details on page 3 to watch the action. Have a great fortnight.

Congratulations to all
those student who have earned a Groovy Grover in
the past few weeks.
The majority of our students have embraced the school Expected Behaviours and are practicing Being Open to Learning, Showing Respect Being Responsible and Building Resilience. Those students who need to be constantly reminded of these behaviours have been attending Social Skills Lessons - which teach and re-enforce the meaning and importance of these values. Thank you to parents for their feedback and positive comments on the new system. Over the last few weeks the whole school has been focusing on Keeping Things in Perspective and Being Inclusive. This week the focus is When things are bad-keep trying. Week 6 will be Seek help when needed. In class, students have been learning about their emotions, being thankful and courage. The Groovy Grover Tally for the past 4 weeks looks like this: Week 2 Gold 85 Blue 83 Red 80 Week 3 Red 93 Blue 83 Gold 71 Week 4 Blue 161 Red 135 Gold 115 Week 5 Blue 85 Red 82 Gold 63

The start of Australia's First EVER Virtual Balloon Race kicked off to a great start with a fantastic event at the Albany Town Square last Saturday. It was great to see so many families come down to enjoy the sunshine, entertainment and masses of delicious goodies on offer. Thank you to all the amazing bakers of delights for the Little Grove P&C Cake stall at the event. We had goodies galore making a fabulous $410 for the day! We reached just over the 1000 Virtual Balloons target just minutes before the launch. This was an awesome effort, so thank you to ALL who have supported this fundraising project. The race is due to conclude THIS Saturday (30th) at 12pm. Just a reminder that you can view the live race results and track your balloon’s progress online at https://asna.rentaballoonrace.com/admin/ Simply log into your account to track your balloons. To keep up to date on The Virtual Balloon Race LIKE our Little Grove Primary School P & C Page. Exciting news! We currently have our own Little Grovian Thomas M holding the lead position with his balloon 'Crackle and pop’. With just 2 days to go anything can happen! Total funds raised are yet to be calculated. Race results and prize announcements will be announced the following week. Good luck everyone!

Breakfast and Lunch clubs are held at schools across the state. We are fortunate at Little Grove not to have a current need for these clubs in our community. Other Albany schools do how-ever have these clubs which are supported by the Albany Food Bank. This initiative is designed for Schools to assist Schools and teach children to appreciate their circumstances and show empathy to others. Boxes will be available in each classroom to collect your donations of canned goods for this appeal.

Parent and Carers are reminded that if your child arrives at school after the 8.50am siren you must sign them in at the office. This is not a punishment for the parent or the student, the process is in place for two main reasons:
If the teacher has already completed the class lesson attendance your child will be marked as absent. The Late Sign in Register is used by admin to amend the entry so your child is not shown as absent for the day.
The Late Sign in Register plays a part in our Emergency Procedures. If the child has been marked as absent, we check that they have not arrived late. If the register is not completed we assume that the child is not on the premises and will therefore not look for them in an emergency.
We hope that this clarifies the situation and we thank you for your co operation.
