As we begin to wind down the activities of the 2019-2020 Citrus Hills Women’s Club year, we can look forward to the annual April Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. I am proud of starting this tradition when Presi-dent in 2015, so this will be our 6
th! It is our
opportunity to pay tribute and recognition to the many dedicated and loyal ladies who volunteer to serve on the various commit-tees of our Club. Without their involve-ment, dedication of time and talent, generosity and creativity, we certainly could not provide all the activities and events, nor all the donations to charities and scholarships of which we are so proud. Please join us to help celebrate their exceptional efforts. And when you see just how many of our members are involved in our many en-deavors, we hope it will encourage you to step forward and join the ranks of such valued women for next year! Many thanks to Pat Crawley and the great committee she headed to create a special décor and elegance for this event!
April also brings the election of Officers who will lead CHWC in our many endeavors to provide opportunities for Companionship, Charity and Community throughout the year. Please join us to sup-port the wonderful and talented women who have generously agreed to dedicate their time and much energy to make next year a memo-rable one! Thanks to the Nominating Committee of Diane Edwards, Trish Coyle and Sharon Davis for managing this effort.
In addition to the above, our April Luncheon meeting will feature the presentation of donations to the nine Non-Profit organizations select-ed by the Community Outreach Committee of Carol Peterman, Chair, Nancy Kellow, Mickey Johnston, Nina Doran and Joanie Matrosic, and approved by the Board of Directors. Here is a great example of our commitment to and support of Community through our efforts to provide Charity.

Our Membership chairs Elizabeth D’Andrea and Barb Shipman will host a new member tea on April 3
rd. It promises to be a gracious opportunity to personally welcome our newest members
and become acquainted with them. It is a time for asking questions about our Club and providing answers. We often get great new ideas and suggestions at the teas, as fresh eyes provide new insights and ideas. The teas have proved to be a great success in sharing information and cama-raderie with our newest members!
As usual, I like to announce the great success of our fund-raising efforts. The annual Bunco Bash was held on February 26
th to a resounding success. Fielding over 100 players, fun was
had by all and generated a generous $1500.00 for our Charity/Scholarship funds. The Bunco Bash was chaired by Kay Stegemann and Andrea Strogney, with their wonderful committee of “Bunco Babes” who created the baskets and prizes and were most generous in their gift of time and talent.
The annual March Fashion Show, “Travel in Style”, held on March 11th was another great suc-
cess, raising $1,633. Many thanks to Betty’s Boutique, and member/owner, Shelia Abrahams for providing the lovely fashion, accessories and many special donations for our baskets and si-lent auction. Thanks also go to Chairs Joanne LeBlanc and Phyllis Wood along with a dyna-mite committee of wonderful volunteers. The committee turned the Hampton Room into a vision of travels to distant lands. As it is our tradition, the models were selected from the hard-working committee, a small perk for all the dedication and efforts. Models included Nina Doran, Brenda Huntsberry, Mickey Johnston, Myrta Keelan, Joanne LaBlanc, Claudia Pesino, Honey Re-galia and Ileen Zavoda.
Our Spring Golf Scramble, “Masters at Citrus Hills”, will be held on March 20th, so look for news
of that fun event in the next newsletter. It is bound to be a huge success and is always the high-light of the year for golfers! Chair Nancy Roberts and her great committee are hard at work to produce a fantastic event!
Our last scheduled event ,The Military Card Party, is coming up on April 1st for your enjoyment.
Yes, it is April Fool’s Day, but don’t be foolish, join the fun of this rousing game of talent and luck! It has been several years since we offered this popular event, and we have Kay Stegemann and Joan Herzog along with a great group of dedicated volunteers to thank for this timely resurrec-tion of a once favorite game! Sign up to join in the fun, it is an easy card game that can be learned quickly in the introduction and trial run of the game. Sign up now to participate in this event!
In news of our activities, we cancelled to bus trip to the Victory Casino Cruise due to lack of participants. And considering the concern over transmission of the Corona Virus, we felt obligat-ed to cancel the bus trip to the Raymond James Museum and Mazzaro’s Italian Market for this year. Erring on the side of caution was a tough decision, but we believe it was advisable as we had no assurance of the sanitation situation. Trust that this very popular event will be included in the Activities agenda for 2020-2021.
I look forward to seeing y’all in April!
CHWC Makes Blankets for Carter St. School
Continuing a long-standing tradition for the Citrus Hills Womens Club, 20 blankets were completed at a lively work session on February 13th at the Central Ridge Library. Scissors snapped and rulers measured as eve-ryone’s fingers were busy cutting and tying.

Virginia Fancy, Diane Trowbridge, Marilyn Provencial, Madonna Ray, Beverly Harris, Joan Stankiewicz, Jan Minek, Marie Radoc-cia, Jackie Huband, Claire Quigley, Kim Janssen and Nikki Puccio

Charitable Donations to be Given to Agencies at April 8
th Luncheon
At the April 8
th Luncheon, in addition to celebrating the
wonderful CHWC Volunteers, we will also be celebrating the local charitable agencies who will be receiving donations from CHWC this year. The funds provided to these agencies help to provide a magnitude of services for those individuals and families in Citrus County who need their assistance. We would also like to recognize and thank CHWC members who choose to bring food donations to our monthly luncheons for the Family Resource Center as well as items for the Humanitarians, and CASA. Thanks to the members who play bingo with the residents at Brookdale every Friday as well those who make blan-kets for, read to and have puppet shows for the little ones at Carter Street Head Start School. Many of you bring items for the children to monthly luncheons to help enhance their lives. The organizations and Carter Street Head Start School appre-ciate and thank you for these donations. The criteria used in picking organizations for donations each year are focused on charities that aid “women, children and families”. The charities that have been chosen for this year by the Community & Charity Outreach Committee of Chair, Carol Peterman and committee members Nancy Kellow, Nina Doran, Mickey Johnson and Joan Matrosic are:
Carter Street Head Start School CASA of Citrus County
Citrus County Advocacy Center “Jesse’s Place” Community Food Bank of Citrus County Citrus County Family Resource Center
Citrus County Harvest, Inc. - “Citrus County Blessings” Citrus Fine Arts, Inc.,
Find- M’ Friend (100 Scent Kits) Voices for Children – Citrus County
CHWC celebrates your generous giving throughout the year in providing items each month to the agencies, making a donation for a ticket to win a basket or at-tending an event as well as all the other ways you help by making a donation in any way.

Tampa Bay Downs Trip in February 2020 On Sunday February 16th, 51 members and guests of the Citrus Hills Women's Club traveled to Tampa Bay Downs for a wonderful day at the races! The weather was perfect, and it was a great day for the horses and their jockeys. After a filling buffet in the Tampa Bay Downs pri-vate party suite, the members and guests watched and cheered for 6 thrilling races. Since there were several upsets, some attendees came home with a bit more cash than they had on arri-val! A good time was had by all.
The trip was coordinated by Gwen Hetherington and Claire Lindley, members of the CHWC Event Committee. Citrus Hills Women’s Club is a social and charitable organization for the pur-pose of making friends, sharing fun events and providing service to the community.

Scholarship Committee News

As part of its on-going efforts to support the hard-working
students within Citrus County, the CHWC has awarded four
deserving women, who are presently studying at Withlacoochee Technical College, scholarship funds to
assist with the costs of their programs. All four women are preparing to enter the healthcare field and will be
completing their programs and be able to begin working by
the end of the summer. Scholarship Co-Chairs Claire Lind-
ley and Marcia Schenker visited WTC on February 11 to
meet with the women, and spoke briefly with each one about
their studies and their future plans. It was gratifying to learn
that they all live locally and plan to work within our county up-
on completion of their studies. Their enthusiasm, hope for the
future and genuine appreciation was evident in each of our
conversations.
Our second task this past month was to collect high school
scholarship applications for 2020. The committee co-
chairs went to Citrus High School and Lecanto High
School to pick up the high school scholarship applications and meet with the guidance counselors in
charge of scholarships. The full Scholarship Committee will be meeting twice in March to review the ap-
plications and determine the most deserving students, who will then be recommended to the Board to re-
ceive the CHWC 2020 scholarships of $1000 each. Each committee member will be putting in countless
hours of reading, reviewing and scoring in order to make the very best recommendations. We are grateful
for this high level of volunteerism for a very worthy cause!
At our February Luncheon the Scholar-ship Committee made $280 in raffle donations, for overall total earnings thus far of $1690. We drew one $100 raffle winner at the Luncheon, Mary Beth Yates. We encourage everyone to donate to this worthy cause. $100 prizes will be awarded at the March, April and May luncheons as well.
