Dear Lawson Parents and Carers,

THANK YOU

I’ve had members of my staff approach me this week to pass along a very special message to you all. “Thank you to all Lawson Families for your continued support”

Our community has endured, fires, flooding and now the effects of managing the spread of COVID-19. The conversations and online communications have been so supportive of our school, our teachers and all of our staff. It means a great deal to all of us and is a morale booster during these tricky times.

We would like to thank those parents continuing to work in the essential services, we understand the position that this puts you in and our doors remain open to your children. Those families supporting social distancing measures, by keeping your children at home, you are helping to slow the spread of the virus and are taking part in our social responsibility to keep everyone safe. This is an enormous commitment and we thank you.

LEARNING FROM HOME

This week I have had the pleasure of calling and checking in on a number of our school families and our students. I was overwhelmed by the appreciation extended to our staff for all of their hard work and effort in getting our students connected with their learning. This in mind, I’d like to share some common challenges with you and shed some light on how we can all get through this together.

TECHNOLOGY

1. We want all of our students to have equal access to technology devices and reliable internet. Our staffcontinue to roll out additional devices for families who are sharing a few devices between many children in thehome. If this is an issue for your family and you would like assistance with, please contact me so I canhelp. In addition to this, I will be ordering Departmental internet devices known as “dongles” for those childrenwith no or limited access to the internet.

2. Google Classrooms – Logging in, switching between accounts and navigating the Google Classroom is newterritory for many of us. We are aware of this issue and are accessing or developing content to help makethings easier.

THE HOME CLASSROOM

Our goal for Lawson students during this week and next is, that all of our students are connected with school, that they are happy and that they are safe. That is, it. Plain and simple.

I have instructed all of our classroom teachers to emphasise that the “set work” is purely to test and shape the distance learning system. The emphasis for the school team should be on setting up student access to learning as our key priority. Please do not let the curriculum add additional stress to your home. Do what you can. Work towards setting up a home learning environment that is enjoyable. If you can’t get to everything each day, give yourself a break and just give it a miss. We know that everyone is trying their best.

Permission Notes When returning permission notes for school activities it is a legal requirement to return a SEPARATE permission note for each child. If you pay online it is still necessary to return the permission note to the office. In addition, if returning multiple notes for more than one child/activity, there is no need to put each note into a separate envelope. We are able to process multiple payments for multiple activities/children in the one transaction. Please ensure your child/s full name and class are on the permission note.

Well done to all the Lawson Learners.

Learning From Home

Ultra-Violet have been studying Minibeasts, habitats and watching living things grow. Check out this little

playground buddy. At Lawson we take care of everyone and

everything!

Here are some photos of our

learning in CC Blue.

We believe learning happens

all the time, everywhere.

We like to learn inside, outside,

on the floor, at a desk, under a

desk, and on our comfy sofa.

We like to learn with our whole

bodies, with our whole

imagination, with our hands, with

what we find, and with what's

around us.

We like to learn with and from

each other - even when we are

further apart.

We like to learn!
