Well, April has finally arrived (never thought the day would come!) and we can come out of hibernation and look
forward to some much needed sunshine.
To get us through the dreary winter days, we have been busy little bees at Save the Date. Not only have I had my baby
(a little girl called Sophia), we have been working with the Carriage Hall with their open days and evenings, organised a successful boutique wedding event at Hodsock Priory, putting plans in place for the upcoming wedding event with a difference in April (got your tickets yet?) plus our website has received an exciting make over which we are so pleased with. Take a look at savethedatemagazine.co.uk where you can find your supplier, read the magazine online and enjoy our blog articles within our rather cool and stylish looking new site (even if we do say so ourselves!)
We hope you enjoy this issue of the magazine and don’t forget, for the extended version, just visit our swanky new website
and you can get even more wedding day pretty to inspire you.
Finally, for your tickets to the most talked about wedding event in town on Sunday 14 April, hosted and organised by yours truly,
visit savethdateevent.co.uk and get your tickets today! Until then. Lydia x

The cake is back! After being pushed aside to make way for
the new breed of ‘cupcake cakes’ the cake has made a triumphant return.
We now hand you over to Natalie from the fabulous Yummy Little
Cakes to tell you all about the ‘return of the cake’………
“Since the Roman Empire, the wedding cake has been a very
important part of the day. During the 1660’s when King Charles II ruled, the large stacked cake we know today was created.
Some traditions are still used today, only they have evolved (no one
wants cake crumbled over their heads - do they?) we now cut the cake.
Many other alternatives have come and gone - some are still
around and can compliment the stacked cake fabulously. However the stacked (tiered) will always be the most traditional.
There are a vast array of wedding blogs all offering “on trend” colour
palettes and designs, which is great as this gives confidence to choose what ever you like for your big day. However I personally believe many brides already know what colour and style of wedding they have been dreaming of.
Long gone is the old fashioned, over piped, fruit only heavy cakes, replaced by pieces of art. The
design possibilities are endless. Many things can be used for inspiration - gowns, pieces of vintage china, beautiful stationery, jewellery and flowers.
Many couples believe a tiered cake to be the expensive
option, it entirely depends on your budget, it doesn’t necessarily mean a tiered cake will be more expensive. Photography by -

How to present them? Maybe a cute glass jar so guests can savour at their leisure then
re-use after. Maybe add a name tag - place names sorted too! (win win).
Cookies can be simple in design - words of love, hand painted florals, cameos or how
about a moustache (now that is fun too)
So lets say 'No' to net bags of sugared almonds and 'yes' to something creative
and memorable!”
What would you most enjoy to nibble on there
and then or take home to savour - brownies, millionaire’s shortbread, cookies, cake pops, rocky road or a delightful macaroon or two?
How many weddings have you been to
where you’ve 'popped' your favour in your bag never to surface again until the bags' next outing?
Favours should be an exciting and talked
about detail like the rest. Not only that your guests enjoy, but end up being a great memento of your big day.

Ed Godden is an award-winning photographer based in Nottinghamshire. He shot his first wedding when he was just 18 years old and now at the age of 34, he enjoys photographing weddings as much, if not more now than when he started all those years ago.
After spending 12 years as a press photographer for national and
international publications he decided to go it alone and hasn’t looked back since.
Capturing creative, stylish and relaxed images on a couple’s big day is
primarily what makes Ed “Tick!” He gets no greater satisfaction than knowing he’s captured beautiful images that a bride and groom can look at and show off for years after their wedding day.
So what makes Ed different from every other wedding photographer? He
knows the importance of building a strong relationship with the couple long before the big day. As soon as a couple have booked him to cover their wedding day Ed sets up a complimentary pre-wedding shoot with the happy couple. This is a great way of not only letting the bride and groom know how he works, but it’s also a fantastic way of allowing them to know what to expect on their wedding day,
Introducing ED GODDEN

experiment with poses, and more importantly, feel at ease with Ed photographing them. “A couple are trusting a hell of a lot on the photographer” Ed says. “With only one chance of getting the shots they want to cherish forever, you can’t afford to book a photographer that isn’t going to listen to what you want. By having a pre-wedding shoot with me I can meet the couple (at the venue if they wish), hear exactly what kind of shots they want, and ultimately give them a stunning collection of images that they deserve”.
With wedding bookings coming in from all over the UK, Ed is always happy to travel and loves shooting weddings
for people who want a set of beautifully creative images which document their day exactly how they remember it, and shot in a completely unobtrusive and reportage style.

Coming up with your table plan can be one of the hardest parts when planning your wedding. As well as choosing where everyone sits (and making sure they’re happy), you’ve also got to choose how to display your seating plan. No doubt you’ve spent a great deal of time styling the rest of your wedding décor; why not your seating plan too!
We now hand you over to Gemma Morgan from The Wedding of my Dreams to give you some fabulous seating plan inspiration!
There is help out there!Top table planner is an online tool which helps you get your seating plan right. Adam from Top Table Planner shares his top 3 tips for arranging your seating plan.
❤ Start as early as you can. Arranging the seating is widely recognised as one of the most stressful parts of planning a wedding and it can take longer than you think.
❤ Tackle the top table first as this is often the trickiest. Certainly don’t feel you need to stick to the traditional layout - do what works best for you!
❤ Ask your venue if they can accommodate a few different sized tables. This can make arranging your seating plan a lot easier. Once you’ve decided where everyone is sitting comes the fun part; you can choose how to display it.

Numbers with a difference! Are you thinking of keeping it simple and numbering your tables, sometimes table numbers can be seen as a hierarchy. You don’t have to number from 1 to 10. Why not use numbers which mean something special to you both. For example, 2 – date you met, 6 – days until your honeymoon, 9 – years you’ve been together, 23 – date you were engaged.
So, if you're stuck for ideas on your seating plan get in touch with Gemma at The Wedding of My Dreams www.theweddingofmydreams.co.uk.
For a rustic wedding, hang your table cards from old flower pots filled with country flowers on wooden boards, a lovely look for a summer wedding. For another rustic look, chalkboard table plans are great, just get hold of a giant blackboard and write out your table plan, perfect for any last minute changes.
For a vintage styled wedding displaying your table plan in a vintage suitcase can look wonderful, (see page 20) or have you thought of having a seating plan displayed like a washing line (see page 21).
If you like to travel as a couple, have you thought about naming your tables after countries you’ve visited. Your table plan could be styled on a world map with luggage tags as the table cards. Maybe you met in London and have certain memories from different areas of the city, use a London Underground map as the base of your table plan and name tables after areas which mean something special to you. For example the area of your first flat, first date etc.
Try your hand at DIYFor a DIY look for your table plan, use a cream wire frame with luggage tags as table plan cards. The luggage tags can be styled with vintage keys hanging from each card, symbolising the key that unlocks your future.
Alternatively use lots of different photo frames and set them up on a table, place your table cards inside the photo frames and dot around a couple of single stem roses in bottles to finish off the look.
PERHAPS you have A theme ...

A Sweep of English ColourThe Couple - Helen & OliverDate - 18th August 2012Venue - Hoveringham Village Hall, Nottinghamshirewww.hoveringham.org.uk/Hall
We at Save The Date love this shoot! With Spring finally upon us its all about the
colour and we feel this wedding proves just that. Here bride Helen gives us the insight into her gorgeous colour led wedding!
“Oliver and I have been together for 6½ years now. We met when I was studying
at Nottingham Trent University. After 6 months together I moved to America for a job but we stuck together for the 18 months I was there, seeing each other every 10 weeks. We both moved to London and in December 2011 Oliver proposed to me after a romantic meal.
We always knew that we wanted to have a really good party so the most important
aspect was that it was a relaxed day and that everyone had fun! I was quite inspired by an English fête and I wanted there to be lots of colour. There was no particular colour theme to the day. The Village Hall we hired was really lovely and a blank canvas so we could just do what we wanted. I bought lots of multi-coloured bunting then loads of honeycomb tissue balls in different colours. ›

We also made a streamer back drop for behind the band which worked really
well to make the hall look a bit more special. I was pretty relaxed about the colour and it wasn’t until the day before the wedding that I saw everything together, luckily it worked! I bought loads of antique bottles for the flowers then mixed them up with tin cans that were decorated with wrapping paper. I absolutely LOVED my dress the second I tried it on. It was not what I imagined I would wear but I just thought it was so different and so much fun. The girls at Fur Coat No Knickers were brilliant, they had lots of ideas with how to fit the dress and the whole process was so fun!
In the evening we brought out decorated jam jars and put tea lights in them. One of
my bridesmaids part owns Butler and Taylor, a vintage event hire specialist based in Glasgow so in her camper van she brought 100 teacups for the reception, vintage water bottles, a beautiful chalk board with holes cut out for flowers that we used for the table plan and lots of other props.

Our photographer Matt Brown was amazing! His photos are absolutely
beautiful; a few tears have been shed when watching the slideshow of the day that he made. He really managed to capture the day for us; there are lots of lovely detailed shots to make sure we remember the little things.
Our wedding was pretty much all DIY but we had an amazing group of
friends and family that helped us leading up to the big day. As our day was so DIY we needed all the help we could get to decorate the village hall and we couldn’t have done it without all the people that helped out…a massive thank you to everyone who helped!”

Here, we hand you over to beautiful bride Carly to tell you about her wedding with Fiona Herbert Catering.
“Ben and I got married at Holme Pierrepont Hall. This is often described as ‘One of Nottingham’s Best Kept Secrets’: it’s a wonderful Tudor house,
just a few miles from the City Centre.
The wedding was meant to be a playful celebration of Englishness: we had garden games such as croquet and bowls; Pimms and cucumber sandwiches;
a buffet with local cheeses and meats served on antique crockery; and readings of poetry by John Donne and John Milton. We were conscious of all the national celebrations taking place over the last few years, and this did inspire us, but we also wanted to create something that drew upon our own interests; I’m a ceramic designer, and my husband is an English teacher, which might explain some of our choices.

We used suppliers who understood our vision for a quintessentially English wedding. We were also keen to work with people from the
Midlands wherever possible to add to the ‘local’ feel to the celebrations. Holme Pierrepont Hall use Fiona Herbert Catering for all bookings at the venue, and we found this combination perfect for our day. Fiona supplied almost all of the food, drink and service, and her company was a model of professionalism and sensitivity. She listened carefully to all our ideas for the day, and interpreted them brilliantly; we can’t recommend her highly enough.
Photographs were taken by Michael Penty Photography. Michael and his associate, Gary, are both familiar with Holme Pierrepont Hall,
and they guided us through the day with good humour and unobtrusive professionalism. They understood what we wanted for our album, and struck a fine balance between formal and reportage images. The rest of the day was organized and styled by ourselves, our friends, and our families.”

Firstly Kerry, congratulations on winning the national wedding industry awards! How does it feel to be a winner?
It feels absolutely amazing, we feel so privileged to be doing a job that we adore and for being recognised nationally. We went along to the Wedding industry awards event to celebrate winning the east midlands award for the second year running, so when our
name was called for the national it was the best feeling ever!
Tell our readers a little bit about what to expect from the new and exciting Tineke shop opening…
The new shop, due to open in spring near Ashbourne is going to be run as an exclusive appointment only basis specialising in weddings and events. We feel this is our real
Q&A Tineke Floral Designs
We at Save the Date have worked with Kerry at Tineke Floral Designs for a number of years now and we've seen her win countless awards such as the 2012 Regional Wedding Industry Awards, and the 2013 Regional and National Awards. It doesn't come much better than Kerry Wilkinson!
This year she's even launched her own independant shop, specialising in all things wedding flowers and will be by apointment only, it's a very exclusive club! Both brides and Save the Date want to find out a little more about Kerry, so we know hand you over to the award winner herself.

area of expertise, so we would like to create this little wedding haven of flowers and gorgeousness! The bottom floor will be used as our workshop and showroom and the top floor will have it's own private consultation area away from any hustle and bustle. We'll also be opening a Flower School which is ideal for hen parties.
Trends are key when it comes to wedding flowers. What styles do you like to see included in table decorations, bouquets and grooms button holes?
The styles that I personally like to see are very natural, romantic and flowers with a blousy feel such as Hydrangeas, Peonies and Roses in lovely pastel shades. However, I feel that the trends are changing to a more vibrant colour palette with a more glamorous feel.
What fresh up and coming trends are your brides asking for at the moment?
We have a few brides this year, and next, looking to create a more rustic, woodland effect with the use of bark, willow and moss. We will be hoping to use bark for our next photo shoot for the wedding flowers magazine, due to be published in the May/June issue.
Finally, what do you think is it about your fabulous wedding flowers that make them stand out from the crowd?
We believe it is our high quality flowers and designs, coupled with our avid attention to detail. People often remark that they know if it’s a Tineke bouquet, so I am led to believe we have a recognisable style about our flowers?! We are also very keen on customer service and communication, and this really shows through our voter’s feedback and comments within the awards.
So if you want fantastic flowers and friendly service, get in touch with Kerry at Tineke Floral Designs.

Mark Pugh is a valued client of Save the Date and he produces some fantastic photography and comes highly recommended by ourselves and his previous brides. Sit back and get to know him...
Firstly Mark, tell us a little about your background history and how you came to be in the profession?
It’s been an interesting journey to where I am today. I was a radio presenter, compére and actor for many years prior to becoming a professional photographer. Once you have presented radio, live events or performed in front of hundreds of thousands of people, you can handle anything! Photography was a hobby until I started to win photography competitions. It was winning the competitions that made me realise that the creative side of my personality was important to me.

Q&A
What do you consider to be ‘your’ style of photography?
My style is Fine Art Wedding Photojournalism. I spend the day capturing images of people when they don’t realise they are having their photograph taken. This gives natural, relaxed and spontaneous results. The ‘Fine Art’ element is my own unique twist: I treat every image as a mini-masterpiece.
How do you prepare yourself and couples for your wedding shoots?
There aren’t many people who enjoy having their photograph taken, so in addition to taking the time to get to know each couple and their requirements, I also offer a complimentary pre-wedding engagement photography session and optional Love Film. I meet the couple prior to their special day to take some informal photographs. It’s a fun ice-breaker, and by the end of the session, we have had a good laugh, and everyone is relaxed in front of the camera.

What can couples expect from you as a photographer?
Whether your wedding is vintage-inspired, contemporary or traditional, I can adapt my style to suit your requirements. This in itself is unique. I also bring a relaxed demeanour and good sense of humour to every photography session which encourages clients to feel at ease.
You can also be assured that your photographs will be processed to the best of my ability as I limit the number of weddings I photograph in the UK and internationally every year.
Finally, what are your plans for the future?
My aim for 2013 is to expand my existing videography services. I already offer a service for couples who do not want a full wedding video, at a fraction of the cost.
Although the technical and creative aspects to photography are important, my vocation is really about people. I never fail to be moved by hearing couple’s love stories, and I find my work endlessly fascinating.

A relaxed affair
Capturing your big day and telling its unique story

Bride Holly tells us about her big day and her experience with Oehler's Photography.
“Our photographers Cathy and Brian from Oehlers Photography, worked exactly to our needs and made
us feel so relaxed on our 'get to know you shoot', a great way of feeling comfortable around the camera.
I was lucky enough to have my wedding planned by Honeysuckle and Castle wedding planners from Draycott,
Derbyshire. From our first meeting they understood what looks I was trying to achieve, we started with key images and worked from there. They recommended hints and tips from photographers, decorations, food and drinks, cost saving ideas and flowers.
We spent months searching for the right venue, the key points were that our guests would feel comfortable
but it still had the wow factor. We knew from our first visit to Norwood Park that it was exactly what we wanted. The long drive-way through perfectly maintained golf course and orchard, the light and airy colour scheme throughout the house made it feel fresh. It was perfect.
We wanted to create a day that would reflect our tastes as a couple, so a relaxed atmosphere, fun and to make
everyone feel included was key. We wanted plenty of flowers, scented candles and a touch of ‘old vintage’ to make the day feel our own.
The dress, I began my search online creating mood boards of ideas, fabrics, colours and shapes. The first
store I visited was Beaubelles in Borrowash, Derbyshire. I picked 4 dresses with different shapes so I knew what style complimented my figure. The Diana by Enzoani was the second dress I tried, and I knew it was the one. The delicate lace detail the sweetheart neckline, the mermaid skirt and the full lace trail were perfect.
