This term members will have the opportunity to hear from local practising Barristers, attend dining sessions at the Inn’s of Court, and attend pupillage fairs.

Registration for the prestigious Bracton Law Society Annual Debating Competition is now open. This is a fantastic opportunity to take part in competitive debating as no prior experience is required.

Registration closes at 2100 21st of January 2016.

Prison ProjectOur Prison Project teams are in the process of receiving security information before they begin to enter HMP Exeter over the next

few months. They will be briefing inmates on substantive employment law through problem-based learning. Sessions this year have also been extended in length to focus on the practical, transferrable skills that ex-offenders will need to exhibit when they seek

employment.

Pro Bono in PracticeDuring Term 2, members of Pro Bono in Practice will get the opportunity to attend two Lunch Talks with leading pro bono

practitioners. Members on this scheme will also be eligible to be selected for further pro bono trips and talks -- similar to the Freshfields and National Pro Bono Centre trip to London in November.

Additionally, fundraising has begun for those teams who volunteered to participate in the Law School Challenge as part of Pro Bono in Practice, in collaboration with LawWorks and the Bar Pro Bono Unit. Our general BLS team has a total fundraising target of £1000. And the best sub-group will win the Most Innovative Fundraising Team Award at the end of year Gala. Very exciting.

As the Devon Chambers competition enters its final rounds this term, the judges get tougher and the standard of mooting gets higher. With an exciting final in a few months time, this is the chance for any competitors from Round 1 onwards to come along and watch so keep your eyes peeled for

more information on that in the next few months. The term also features external moots in Southampton, London and other one off opportunities for beginners against other local universities.

Good luck to anyone taking part in any moots this term-let’s get some wins for Exeter!

School ProjectVolunteers will give presentations on internet safety, drug and alcohol abuse and human rights to pupils

from Exeter Mathematics School and St. James'. The interactive workshops will include videos and activities, and volunteers this year have written all aspects of the presentation themselves.

Lawyers Without BordersThere are two parts to LWOB - research and fundraising. The research team have started to look at

wildlife crime in Kenya, preparing their report in groups by the end of the month. We also aim to raise £300 for the charity, with a dedicated award at the BLS Gala for the top fundraiser.
