DESCRIPTION
Dashboards and Saddlebags the Destination Magazine™ is the guide for finding unique destinations in your own back yard. Even if you can when Lake Norman was cows and not carp, you’ll find destinations here that will have you saying “I never knew that was there.” Lisa and I are very selective of our marketing partners as well as our editorial content. If we cannot be proud of the content submitted to us we will not put it in Dashboards and Saddlebags Magazine, period. So, if you are looking for new destinations to explore on your own, or ideas for things to do with friends and family you will find something new each month in your destination magazine.TRANSCRIPT

Th e R e d , W h i t e & B r e w Celebration and Bike Giveaway
at Harley-Davidson of Charlotte in Matthews on August 25th is a annual destination that draws motorcycle enthusiasts for miles around! Music, food vendors, a bike show and the bike Giveaway makes it an event worth attending no matter how hot it gets! If it gets to hot for you don’t forget that it is a “Brew Celebration”!
Performing two shows on Saturday will be Bubba Blackewll, the only Harley-Davidson sponsored jumper grew up in Alabama and became a big Evel Knievel fan. After Bubba won the Heavyweight Superbike National Championship in 1988 when he was only 19 years old he turned to stunt riding and has skyrocketed to the top of his field.
Bubba learned that most important thing about jumping is not how far you go, but what kind of overall thrill show you give and that you give the people the best performance you can. This man is AMAZING!
After Bubba burns up his last tire Bob Karney will be Honoring the Bulldog Hero of the Year. The award honors Bikers in the Carolinas for their outstanding contributions to their communities. Five Bikers will be selected; one will be named BULLDOG HERO OF THE YEAR and will receive $1000 to be donated to their charity of choice, 4 others will be named BULLDOG HEROES and will each receive $500 to be donated to their charity of choice.
Tell Bob who you think deserves this honor. Go to wrfx.com, keyword bulldog or just shoot him a email with your nominations to [email protected]. Please include the nominee’s name, number and/or email, along with a picture and why he/she is an outstanding American.

Film Junkies Guide to North CarolinaDeals Gap/ The DragonU.S. 129 at the North Carolina/Tennessee line
Film junkies can get a cinematic rush by driving the 300-plus
curves in just over ten miles on “The Dragon,” a section of U.S. 129 at Deals Gap at the North Carolina/Tennessee line. The Dragon is considered one of the world’s best motorcycling and sports-car roads, but those wanting a slower pace can visit the site of some exciting film scenes, many of which feature—what else?—fast cars and breakneck chases. Or you can see The Dragon in its own video, Tail of the Dragon
The unofficial route of The Dragon begins on the North Carolina side at the aptly named Fugitive Bridge. Here, film junkies can get a marvelous view of Cheoah Dam from which Dr. Richard Kimball (Harrison Ford) makes his memorable leap in The Fugitive It ends 14 miles across the mountain at the Tabcat Creek Bridge in Tennessee.
The first feature made on U.S.129 was Thunder Road . Robe r t Mitchum produced, wrote, and starred in this drive-in classic about backwoods moonshining. Thunder Road filmed several scenes on The Dragon, some featuring the old wooden safety posts, a few of which still remain. Another minor
classic in the same vein is Two-Lane Blacktop, a muscle-car road movie starring North Carolina’s James Taylor as “the Driver” in his only acting role to date, along with a fellow ‘60s music legend, Beach Boy Dennis Wilson. In Two-Lane Blacktop, which has standout performances by Warren Oates and Harry Dean Stanton, you’ll see the state-line sign, some of the curves, and the original single-lane bridge atTapoco Dam. Dragon historians will also note the original Deals Gap diner and Esso gas station, which appear at the end of the movie. In a bit of irony, one of the two ‘55 Chevys in the film turned up two years later in American Graffiti, driven by Dr. Richard Kimball himself, Harrison Ford.
CreditsThe Tail of the Dragon video (2003) is available at www.tailofthedragon.com/shop. The Dragon’s other credits include In Dreams (1999); The Fugitive (1993); Two-lane Blacktop (1971); and Thunder Road (1958).
