Subject: Report on Inauguration ceremony of Vision Center Hatgangupara, Bagmara under
Rajsahi District.
Date of Inauguration :28 December 2016
Ispahani Islamia eye Hospital is a non-profitable service providing eye hospital. It has been
providing quality eye care to the people of Bangladesh since 1960. Eradicating avoidable and
needless blindness and providing quality service and best eye care to under privileged an
unsaved people is its prime mission.
90% of the world’s blind population lives in the developing countries of which 80% is treatable.
The major reasons for treatable blindness are- lack of awareness, shortage of care providers,
lack of service centers in the heartlands, delay in receiving care, fear of surgery, delay of
diagnosis and financial constraints.
Ispahani Eye Hospital is very determined to provide eye care to people all across. Therefore, 3
hospitals were established in 3 districts outside Dhaka. Through these initiatives people of
Barisal, Jamalpur and Naogan are receiving quality eye care. To provide service to people of
remote areas Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital started setting up vision centers, the main motive of
which was to provide affordable eye care service in the doorstep.
In 2016 Islmia Eye Hospital took up the plan to set up vision centers in 6 underserved areas. In
continuity of the plan the 5th vision center had been inaugurated on 28.12.2016. It was
established in Hatgangupara, Bagmara, Rajsahi district, under the administration of the branch
hospital in Naogaon.
Inauguration: The inauguration ceremony was conducted in two parts. First, there was a
discussion session and in the secondeye care services were inaugurated.The discussion meeting
was held in the auditorium of Hatgangupara BM Technical College.
Discussion Meeting:The meeting started with the pleasant recitation from The Holy Quran by
Hafiz. HMA Rashid. People from all centers of the society consisting of government officials,
non-government officials, Teachers, People representative, Orbis staffs, Ispahani Islamia Eye
Hospital staff etc. with more than 300 general people were present at the meeting.
Welcome Speech: Dr. Arifur Rahman, Consultant in Charge, Naogan branch hospital conveyed
his gratitude to the present gathering and asked everyone’s cooperation for the betterment of
the Vision Centers’ activities.He alsodescribesthe services of NBH and shared how people are
benefited by Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital.
Mr. Nurul kabir(Project Coordinator, orbis) Mr. Nurul Kabir was present at the meeting on
behalf of Orbis international. She started by welcoming the present crowd. then, she thanked
Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital for being affiliated and finally ended by hoping for the success of
the project.
Mariam Begum (Satisfied Patient): Mariam Begam a satisfied patient of Ispahani Islamia Eye
Hospital Naogaon Branch (NBH) was present in the discussion meeting and willingly stated her
experience as a patient of NBH. She said, Ispahani eye Hospital is an excellent organization and I
found the service is satisfactory and also informed the gathering that she has her both Cataract
surgery done from NBH. He thanked Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital for establishing a Vision
Center in Hatgangupara.
Presentation on Vision Center: Md. Kamrul Hasan (Project Coordinator, IIEI&H) did a ‘Power
Point’ presentation on the activities of the Vision Centers and also conducted a brief session on
the aims and objectives of Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital regarding the project.
Md.Nurul Islam (Head Master, Heptangular High School):First Mr. Islam thanked Islamia Eye
Hospital for establishing a vision center in the remote part of the district. He said before this
they are experienced with Eye camp of Islamia eye hospital and now the people of the area will
get regular service form vision center.. He wished for the success of the project and offered the
help from his side.
Jeahangir Alam (Lecturer, Hatgangupra Degree College): Mr. Jahangir Alam stated that such
projects are praiseworthy and so he thanked Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital for such activities.
He also put emphasis on spreading awareness on the necessity of Eye Care, especially among
the children, adolescent and the mothers.
Dr. Mahbubul Alam(Medical Officer, Bagmara): Representing the Upzilla Health Division,
Dr.Mahbubul Alam was present at the meeting. He ascertained every one of the Government
Health Sector’s assistance on the project and also mentioned that establishing a Vision Center
in a deprived place like Hatgangupara is going to be very fruitful. He also requested Ispahani
Islamia Eye Hospital to spread the recognition of the activities among the Government field
workers.
Chief Guest: Principal of BM Technical College Mr. Ansarul Haq was the chief guest of the
ceremony. He mentioned in his speech that he thinks Gangupara and its people are fortunate
to have a branch of Ispahani Islamia Eye Hospital for providing quality eye care with non-
profitable aim. He thanked everyone working on the Vision Centers, its scheme makers and rest
involved for their dedication and hoped for the best. Finally, he thanked to guest who come
from Dhaka and also the representative of the area for participate in the discussion meeting.
Chairperson:Mr. Gazi Nazrul Islam Faisal(Director Planning &Development of IIEI&H) presided
over the ceremony. He stated that Vision Centers are the first Digital Systems in health care
that have implemented the Government’s mandate. He thanked all the Government and non-
government correspondents present and people from all fronts involved in the execution of the
Vision Center for their honest involvement. Hoping for the success of the project, he
announced the end of the meeting. He also thanked ‘Orbis, Sheba, Qatar charity’ for their assistance
and coordination in setting up the vision center
After the end of the meeting, the activities were inaugurated in the presence of the guests. A
brief exhibition of the facilities was presented to the guests showing how one can receive
service from Naogaon by the Vision Center situated in Gangupara. A total of 38 patients
received services from the center that day. Among them, 10 were referred for Cataract surgery
and 10were identified for taking up spectacles.
