INOCULANTS — SPECIFICATION

(Second Revision) [Second cover page, Foreword, Para 2, line 3] — Substitute  ‘Plant  stand’  for ‘plant,  stand’.

[Second cover page, Foreword, Para 5, line 1] — Substitute  ‘Soil  Quality  and  Fertilizers  Sectional  Committee’   for ‘Useful Agricultural Micro-organisms Sectional Committee’.

[Second cover page, Foreword, Para 6] — Substitute the existing para with the following:

‘This standard was first published in 1979 and revised in 2002. In the first revision the requirements for nodulation and increase in dry mass of inoculated plants, agglutination with strain specific antisera and moisture content of carrier based Azotobacter Inoculant were incorporated. Further, dilution at which Azotobacter Inoculant shall have no contamination was changed. In this second revision a number of changes have been made and prominent amongst them are as follows:

a) Requirements for nodulation and increase in dry mass of inoculated plants and agglutination with strain specific antisera have been removed;

b) Requirement for nitrogen fixed by Azotobacter Inoculant per gram of sucrose utilized has been incorporated;

c) Requirement of viable Azotobacter cells/g of the carrier has been changed;

d) Sampling aliquot taken for ascertaining contaminants in the Azotobacter Inoculant has been changed;

e) Test for determining moisture content of carrier based Azotobacter Inoculant has been incorporated; and

f) Marking requirements have been modified.
