Indian StandardSPECIFICATION FOR

COTIONSEED OILCAKE AS LIVESTOCKFEED INGREDIENT

(Second Revision)

o. FOREWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard (Second Revision) was adopted by theIndian Standards Institution on 30 April 1982, after the draft finalizedby the Animal Feeds Sectional Committee had been approved by theAgricultural and Food Products Division Council.

0.2 The oilcake derived from cottonseed (Gossypium sp) is a feed ofhigh nutritive value. The formulation of this standard was undertakenby the Animal Feeds Sectional Committee in accordance with the programme for the preparation of Indian Standards for the variousingredients used in compounding feed mixtures. At the same time, theneed for the speedy formulation of standards for oilseed cakes wasemphasized by the Indian Central Oilseeds Committee and theDirectorate of Marketing and Inspection, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Government of India. It is expected that this standard willassist in the development of the mixed feeds industry in the country.Inclusion of the aflatoxin limit in the standard did not find favour withthe Committee at this stage because of non-availability of a reliable andquick method for its determination. Further, data for fixing 4 safe limitin the product meant for livestock feed was also not available. However,it wasa considered view of the Committee to fix this limit as early aspossible.

0.3 This standard was first published in 1960 and revised in 1970. TheCommittee, in the present revision, took note of the latest developmentsin the manufacturing, trading, storing and consumption pattern of theproduct and accordingly the requirements have been modified. Opportunity has also been taken to align the test methods for various requirements to IS : 7874 ( Part J )-1975·.

0.4 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of thisstandard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded offin accordancewith IS : 2-1960-. The number of significant places retained in therounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in thisstandard.

I. SCOPE

1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements and the methods ofsampling and test for cottonseed oilcake for use as livestock feedingredient.

1.2 This standard does not cover the solvent-extracted cottonseed oilcakemeant as livestock feed ingredient.
