BACKGROUND

IRCTC was incorporated on 27th September, 1999.

An extended arm of the Indian Railways to upgrade, professionalize and manage the catering, tourism and hospitality services

To promote domestic and international tourism through development of budget hotels, special tour packages, information & commercial publicity and global reservation systems.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE

Five Zonal Offices are working at Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai & Secunderabad.

South Zone Office is headed by Regional Director and all other Zonal Offices are headed by Group General Managers.

Zonal Offices are assisted by ten Regional Offices at Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Bhubneshwar, Guwahati, Patna, Bhopal, Ahemedabad, Bangalore and Ernakulam.

IRCTC WEB PORTAL

Launched in 2002.

Tickets for Rail journeys and Tatkal tickets can be booked the Internet on the website by any user after registering at the site for free.

Credit and Debit cards are accepted during internet transactions.

Nominal service charge is levied.

Automatic Refunds: A refund is made on the card in case of cancellation.

Online ticketing

Passengers can book two types of tickets. They are e-ticket and i-ticket.

An individual can book Maximum of Ten berths/ seats in single transaction.

Cancellation facility of your Ticket is possible Online(e-ticket) only.

IRCTC has also added flights and hotels booking facilities to their line of online reservation services

SMS Booking

It is launched on 28th June 2013.

The simplest version of Mobile ticketing where in the ticked can be booked using just 2 SMS.

you need to send an SMS with the details.

You’ll then receive a transaction ID.

PAY<space>Transaction ID, MMID and OTP.

TATKAL TICKET

Start at 10:00 A.M daily

You have to make your ticket one day before your train start from origin station.

IRCTC is currently using 58 iridium servers and 10 more servers to be added to cater the heavy traffic in peak hours.

Mahaparinirvan Express

It covers important sites connected to life of Buddha and Agra.

The train offers comprehensive on board and off board services.

This train won the National Tourism Award in Feb., 2009.

IRCTC launched a budget train for the convenience of Buddhist Pilgrims from Sri Lanka.

introduced a Heritage ToyTrain utilizing the Saloon Type Coaches on the Kalka-Shimla Railway.

IRCTC has started the inbound travel services in the year 2011-12.

IRCTC has organised travel and other tour related arrangements for a group of 800 Chinese delegates.

Tours were organized for 300 foreign students as part of study exchange programmes.
