Pipefreezing at Gatwick Airport For details of our additional services such as Purging, Shrink Fitting & Removal, Probe & Instrument Insertion and Squeeze Off contact us now on FREEPHONE 0800 037 0377 In order to install two new 65mm branches, we attended to carry out double freeze isolations of the 150mm chilled water flow and return pipe work, enabling the new installation without draining down the entire system. In an international airport, such as Gatwick, handling over 16.5 million people each year leaves no room for error. This is why CMS chose IPS to work with them. Had the system failed the whole of the chilled water circuit servicing the South Terminal would have been lost. The heavy rain and wind forecast could have caused severe problems to the freezing operation and so the window of opportunity for us to get in and make the changes was limited. In addition the roof-top site made accessing the location particularly challenging. We had to utilise the goods hoist on the exterior front of the building and then safely transport the liquid nitrogen to the back of the roof to the freeze location. We were able to help Chandler Mechanical to service and install new pipe work on the roof whilst the airport was at low levels of use, ready for another busy day with no interruption to customer services. Our work was completed in 8 hours. Working on the roof of Gatwick’s oldest terminal during one of the wettest months of the year was just one of the challenges we faced at Gatwick Airport. We were called to the South Terminal by Chandler Mechanical Services, who were carrying out planned work to the 150mm chilled water pipe work to serve a new retail unit within the International Departure Lounge. “We have worked with IPS for some years now. Their consistency, reliability and good attitude towards work is second to none. They are always willing to work with us, offer advice and help solve problems” Director, Chandler Mechanical Services www.ipsgroup.net IPS Group Services Recent Projects No.2
