ThThe Intensive Program UPWARD (IP-U) wants to enable a multilateral cooperation between different learning environments and planning cultures, entailing an exchange of views on teaching contents, pedagogic experiences and methodological approaches.

ItIts operational field is the Urban Project (UP). Current training programs in Architecture and Urban Planning display a different consideration to the UP, generating a wide gap between problems emerging by cities imbalances and solutions provided by Academic training. The IP UPWARD is meant to contribute to bridge this gap, directly focusing on the UP theorisation and practice.

AAs a result the IP-U is supposed to support the efforts for a full recognition of the planning profession in the Eastern European Countries and to put in evidence the role that the UP may play at different levels of Urban planning and design.

IIn that sense the IP-U will be a unique occasion to overcome differences and gaps among the planning cultures among the Western, Central and Eastern European Countries. The final projects devised by the students at the end of the workshop will specifically address sustainability issues, leading towards ‘space building’ and ‘community building’.

AA Seminar, parallel to the workshop, will open a reflection on how would be possible to attribute a more outstanding and efficient role to the UP, both on the educational side and in the planning practice.
