Iowa State plays host to No. 14/12 Oklahoma. The Cyclones are 5-3. Head coach Paul Rhoads has a 23-23 record in his fourth season at ISU. You have to go back to Clay Stapleton (1958-67), who was 26-20 into his fifth season in 1962, to find a coach with a better record through 46 games. Rhoads is the first Iowa State coach to take his team to a pair of bowl appearances in his first three seasons. 2. Iowa State set an all-time attendance record last season of 53,647 fans per game. A record crowd of 56,800 watched the Kansas State at Iowa State game Oct.13. ISU’s win over Baylor marked the 12th straight game with more than 50,000 fans in attendance at Jack Trice Stadium. The Cyclones have sold more than 40,000 season tickets. All six Iowa State home games drew more than 50,000 fans last season, a school first. The No. 1 reason for the record turnout? Iowa State fans love head coach Paul Rhoads who was born 10 minutes from Jack Trice Stadium, went to high school 20 minutes from the stadium and previously served as a Cyclone assistant coach from 1995-1999. This Iowan is truly one of them. 3. Iowa State’s 37-23 win at No. 15/13 TCU on Oct. 6 was the latest historic Paul Rhoads victory joining at Nebraska (2009), at No. 17 Texas (2010), at No. 17 Texas Tech (2011) and vs. No. 2 Oklahoma State (2011), all streak enders (see page 2). The win marked the first time in school history that Iowa State has beaten a ranked team in three straight seasons and the first time the Cyclones have defeated a team ranked 13th or higher on the road since 1977. 4. Iowa State’s defense is anchored by linebackers A.J. Klein and Jake Knott. Big 12 coaches voted Klein as the 2011 conference co-defensive player of the year. Klein has made 311career tackles and against Texas Tech tied the NCAA record for interception returns for touchdowns by a linebacker (four). His wingman Knott earned first-team all-Big 12 honors from the league’s writers and owns 347 career stops. Knott picked off a pass to ice Iowa State’s win at Iowa and at TCU. Both will play in their 47th career game against vs. Oklahoma. 5. Iowa State and Oklahoma meet for the 77th time. Oklahoma leads the series, 69-5-2. Iowa State has beaten OU just once (1990) in the last 42 years with a tie (1981). The Cyclones last beat Oklahoma in Ames in 1960 and is 0-14 vs. the Sooners in Jack Trice Stadium. 6. Iowa State quarterback Steele Jantz, who had started the first four games of this season, played his best game of the season, hitting on 36-of-52 passes for a career-high 381 yards and a school-record tying five touchdowns in a 35-21 win over Baylor. Jantz connected with 10 different receivers in the win. The Cyclones kept the Bears’ high-octane offense off the field by running a school-record tying 102 plays. 7. The Cyclone defenders are getting to the ball. Last season Iowa State broke up 3.69 passes per game. This year the total is 5.4 per game. The Cyclones rank 30th nationally in pass efficiency defense. Safety Durrell Givens also leads the nation in fumble recoveries (five). 8. Punter Kirby Van Der Kamp earned National Punter of the Week honors after dropping punts out on the 8, 1, 16 and 20 yard lines against Western Illinois. He has dropped 21 of 49 punts inside the opponent’s red zone with just one touchback. Van Der Kamp pinned Iowa inside its 20-yard line five times and Tulsa started at its own 2, 9, 15, 8, 20 and 13 yard lines. Iowa State wide receiver Josh Lenz caught five passes for a career-high 147 yards and TDs of 51, 74 and 1 yards and threw the second TD pass of his career in the Cyclones’ 37-23 win at TCU. But he has missed the last two games. 9. Tight end Ernst Brun caught a career-high six passes for 76 yards against Baylor. He is the first Cyclone tight end with four touchdown catches since Al Dixon in 1976. “I may not be able to make a speech like Paul Rhoads, but I’ll try.”

- President Barack Obama on his Iowa State visit (8-28-12)

STREAK BREAKER• When he was hired as the Iowa State head coach, Paul Rhoads immediately went to work

breaking some unsightly losing streaks. After going 5-19 over the previous two seasons, Iowa State was in the midst of several losing streaks. Those streaks have been turned around with Rhoads in charge.Hometown: Ankeny, Iowa

High School: Ankeny High SchoolCollege: Missouri Western, ‘89Graduate Degree: Utah State, ‘91Year in coaching: 23rdWife: VickieChildren: Jake and Wyatt

In his first meeting with his team in January of 2009, new Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads told his Cyclones they were going to win a bowl game. His players were somewhat taken aback. Iowa State had lost its last 10 games in 2008 and hadn’t had a winning season or gone to a bowl game in four years.

Iowa State’s players followed their leader in 2009 en route to a 7-6 record that included a 14-13 win over Minnesota in the Insight Bowl. The final results could not have been better. The Cyclones tied Washington as the most improved BCS teams nationally with five more wins than the previous season.

The seminal moment of the season was a 9-7 win at Nebraska, accomplished by an Iowa State team that played without its starting quarterback or running back. It was the Cyclones’ first win in Lincoln in 32 years. Rhoads was the first Iowa State coach to post a winning season in his inaugural season since 1931.

In 2010, he coached Iowa State to its first win against Texas, beating the 22nd-ranked Longhorns in Austin. The victory was the Cyclones’ first road win against a ranked opponent in 20 years.

Rhoads’ third “signature win”was a 44-41 triple overtime victory over Iowa on Sept. 10 in Ames. On Oct. 29 Rhoads’ Cyclones scored their biggest ever win over a ranked team, beating No. 19 Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas 41-7. What followed was the biggest win in school history, 37-31 in double overtime against No. 2 Oklahoma State in Ames. The victory propelled Iowa State to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in New York, N.Y. Last weekend Iowa State ended TCU’s 12-game win streak, the longest such skein nationally.

Rhoads is a 1989 graduate of Missouri West-ern University with a degree in economics. He earned his master’s from Utah State in 1991.

KLEIN AND HORNE LEAD BIG 12 COACHES’ ALL-CONFERENCE CYCLONES• In 2011, the Big 12 coaches voted junior ISU linebacker A.J. Klein the Co-Defensive Player-of-

the-Year with Oklahoma DE Frank Alexander. Cyclone receiver/kick returner Aaron Horne was chosen as the league’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Klein is the first Cyclone to earn defensive player of the year honors.

THE MAGIC NUMBER IS 24• Iowa State is 20-1 under head coach Paul Rhoads when holding teams under 24 points and

3-22 when allowing 24 or more points. The 52-38 win over Texas Tech in 2010 broke the mold. It was the most points ever scored by Iowa State against a Big 12 opponent and the most points allowed in a conference victory since the Missouri Valley Conference began in 1907.

CYCLONE SENIORS HAVE LED DESPITE ADVERSITY• At the end of preseason practice, Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads shared with his team the

journeys of several Cyclone seniors who have overcome adversity and stand as starters and key contributors heading in the 2012 season.

• Jeremy Reeves has overcome several injuries at cornerback. The native of Allen, Texas has 189 career tackles and four interceptions. The Allen, Texas made five tackles and broke up a pass against Tulsa and at Oklahoma State. He returned a pick 94 yards for a touchdown against Northern Iowa in 2010, the second-longest interception return in school history. In total, Reeves has four career interception returns for 155 yards. Reeves also returned an onside kick for a touchdown against Texas Tech in 2010 that iced a 52-38 win over Texas Tech.

• First-team All-Big 12 linebacker Jake Knott, an academic All-Big 12 honoree, may be the league’s king of perseverance. Last season, Knott played with a dislocated shoulder. During the 2011 game at Baylor, the shoulder popped out twice. Both times he popped it back in himself. Knott had surgery on his right arm in spring practice of 2011 but broke it again in last season’s opener vs. Northern Iowa. Then, in addition to his shoulder issues, he broke his right hand in the Baylor game. Knott never missed a game the entire season. He has 347 career stops and clinched Iowa State’s wins at Iowa and TCU with interception. Knott is the 14th Cyclone with at least 300 career tackles. He has made at least 10 tackles in 19 career games and was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his 11 tackle effort against Baylor.

• Nose guard Jake McDonough struggled early in his Iowa State career. He was trying to play in the defensive line at 220 pounds. He wasn’t gaining weight, he was losing it. Some began to question his commitment and he had no answers as to why he was losing weight. Eventually, doctors suspected Celiac disease that made him allergic to milk, among other foods. Ironically, he worked in the dairy secton of his local Hy-Vee store in high school. Now, McDonough is having an all-conference season. He made seven tackles, two for loss with a pair of sacks in the TCU victory. He is now 280 pounds and has 76 career tackles and five sacks.

• Offensive tackle Carter Bykowski, an academic All-Big 12 honoree, began his career as a tight end and saw action there as a true freshman in 2008. Bykowski was moved to the offensive line and spent the last three years learning the position while assumming a back-up role. His hard work paid off this summer and he is the starter at left tackle. He made a pass reception at TCU off a tipped ball against the Horned Frogs, the fourth catch of his career and first as an offensive lineman.

AMES, Iowa - Steele Jantz threw for 281 yards and Shontrelle Johnson rushed for a career-high 120 yards to help Iowa State (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) down Tulsa, 38-23 in the season-opener at Jack Trice Stadium.

Jantz tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another, as the Cyclones racked up 441 yards of total offense in front of 54,931 fans, the largest crowd to ever see an Iowa State home opener.

Iowa State took a 24-16 lead at the break, scoring 17-straight points. Jantz hit Josh Lenz on a 43-yard toss for the first score of the game to move Iowa State out in front 7-0. Tulsa battled right back with 16-straight points to forge a 16-7 lead. Ja’Terian Douglas scored on a 1-yard touchdown run followed by a six-yard touchdown catch by Thomas Roberson after a Cyclone turnover.

The Cyclones responded, however. Jake Knott forced his ninth career fumble, knocking the ball loose from Bryan Burnham to thwart a Tulsa drive and switch the momentum. Iowa State proceeded to go on an eight-play, 51-yard drive capped off by a Jantz 5-yard dash to trim the Tulsa lead to 16-14 with 11:55 left in the first half. Jantz then connected on his second touchdown pass on Iowa State’s next possession, finding Ernst Brun in the end zone from seven yards out to make it 21-16 Iowa State. Edwin Arceo kicked a 30-yard field goal as the first half expired to give the home team a 24-16 lead at the break. Jantz was 22-of-30 for 240 yards in the first half, accounting for all three of Iowa State’s touchdowns. The Cyclones made it 24 unanswered points with an impressive drive in the third quarter. Iowa State mounted a 12-play, 82-yard drive culminated by a James White 6-yard run to go up 31-16. Iowa State churned out 61 yards on the ground on the drive, including 32 from Johnson.

Deon Broomfield made the big play late, intercepting a Cody Green pass and returning it 51 yards to the Tulsa 5-yard line. Johnson scored on the next play to seal the victory for the Cyclones.

2012 GAME RECAPS

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Waukee, Iowa, native Jake Knott sealed Iowa State’s 9-6 Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk win over Iowa Saturday in Kinnick Stadium with an interception with 1:11 remaining. Knott’s interception came as the Hawkeyes were marching down the field and had moved the ball to the Cyclones’ 24-yard line.

Iowa State (2-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12 Conference) produced a stout defensive performance holding Iowa without touchdown for the first time since a 23-3 victory in Ames in 2005. The defensive performance is the Cyclones’ best at Kinnick since Iowa State shutout Iowa 31-0 in 1978.

The Cyclone defense held Iowa to 68 rushing yards, the lowest total the Hawkeyes have amassed on the ground in the series since 1999 against Iowa State.

The Cyclones moved the ball effectively, but three turnovers inside the Hawkeye red zone prevented Iowa State from distancing itself from Iowa.

Iowa State senior quarterback Steele Jantz started the game red hot, completing his first 10 passes. The Agoura Hills, Calif., native went on to finish the game 24-of-36 with 241 yards and one touchdown. Jantz threw a pair of interceptions and rushed for 40 yards.

The Cyclones took the ball to start the game and drove right down the field. On third and three from the Iowa five yard line, Jantz connected on a pass to Aaron Horne over the midfield for the game’s first touchdown. The Cyclones could not convert on the extra point and had the 6-0 lead 5:05 into the game.

Iowa responded by taking the ball all the way to the Cyclone five yard line, but the Cyclone defense stalled the Hawkeyes, forcing a field goal. Iowa’s Michael Meyers made the 23-yard field goal to make the score 6-3 with 4:49 left in the first quarter.

A key pass to Horne from Jantz early in the second quarter for 40 yards set the Cyclones up for a scoring drive. Arceo converted a 23-yard field goal to extend the Cyclone lead to 9-3 with 11:13 remaining in the first half.

Horne finished the game with a team-high 73 yards receiving and a touchdown.

2012 GAME RECAPS

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State’s defense held an opponent without a touchdown for the second consecutive game in a 37-3 win over Western Illinois Saturday night in Jack Trice Stadium. Iowa State (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) scored two quick touchdowns and the defense took care of business from there, holding the Leathernecks to 178 yards of total offense.

A crowd of 55,783, the fourth-largest in Jack Trice Stadium history, watched ISU hold an opponent to under 200 yards of offense for the first time since 2004 (UNI- 99 yards). It also marks the first time the Cyclones have held back-to-back opponents without a touchdown since the final game of 1964 (Arizona, 0-0) and the season-opener in 1965 (Drake, 21-0).

Iowa State had the luxury of playing many reserves in the victory, as nine players carried the ball for 264 rushing yards. James White led the ground attack with 72 yards and DeVondrick Nealy had 70 yards in his debut as a Cyclone.

Iowa State took an early 14-0 lead, scoring twice in the first six minutes. On ISU’s first possession, White rambled up the middle for 56 yards to put the Cyclones on the board. It was White’s second-longest run of his career. Chris Young caught a 16-yard toss from Steele Jantz on the Cyclones’ next series to make it 14-0.

Both teams traded punts throughout the majority of the second quarter. Young caught his second TD pass in the closing moments of the first half, this time on a five-yard throw from Jantz. Young accounted for all 55 yards of ISU’s offense on its final scoring drive of the opening half, as ISU led 21-0 at the break.

The Cyclones tacked on another touchdown on their first drive of the second half to make it 28-0. Jantz hit Aaron Horne on a 22-yard hurl, his second TD grab of the season.

Jantz finished the game with 209 yards on 19-of-26 passing. He also gained 33 yards on the ground. Young totaled 86 yards on seven catches and two touchdowns to lead the receiving corps.

The Cyclones finished the game with 504 yards of offense.

AMES, Iowa - AMES, Iowa - Texas Tech’s defense held Iowa State to 189 yards of total offense in a 24-13 victory over the Cyclones Saturday night in Jack Trice Stadium. Iowa State (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) was up to the task on defense, holding the high-octane Red Raider offense to under 400 yards of total offense and 24 points, 26 points below their season average. However, the Cyclone offense couldn’t sustain enough drives and were hampered by two costly fourth quarter turnovers in their first loss of the season.

Texas Tech (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) was led by quarterback Seth Doege, who threw for 331 yards on 30-of-46 attempts.

It was all defense in the first half for both sides. Iowa State mustered just 63 yards of total offense in the first half compared to Texas Tech’s 177, as the game was tied at 7-7 at intermission.

The Cyclone defense scored the first points when A.J. Klein picked off a Doege pass and ran it back 87 yards for a touchdown. It was Klein’s fourth interception return for a touchdown in his career, tying the NCAA record for interception returns by a linebacker.

Jacques Washington intercepted another Doege pass to stop a Tech drive in the second half.

The Red Raiders got on the board right before the half expired when Doege hit Jakeem Grant on an 11-yard pass on third and goal to tie the game at 7-7. It was the first touchdown the Cyclone defense surrendered in over 157 minutes of game action.

The Cyclones had just two first downs in the first half.

After stopping TTU on its opening drive of the second half, the Cyclones mounted their best series of the game with a 15-play, 74-yard touchdown drive. Steele Jantz found Ernst Brun in the corner of the end zone on a four-yard toss to give the Cyclones a 13-7 lead, as Edwin Arceo’s extra point attempt was wide right.

TTU quickly answered on its next drive to move ahead 14-13. Doege found Darrin Moore on a four-yard touchdown toss to put Tech up for good.

A costly turnover by ISU led to TTU’s next score. A Jantz pass was intercepted by Cornelius Douglas after Brun bobbled the pass, setting up a return to the ISU 9-yard line. TTU scored two plays later to move ahead, 21-13 with 10:36 left in the game.

2012 GAME RECAPS

FT WORTH, Texas – David Irving tipped a pass, intercepted it and ran 21 yards for a touchdown and Iowa State ended the nation’s longest win streak with a 37-23 win over the No. 13 TCU in Amon G. Carter Stadium. The win marked the first time Iowa State had beaten a ranked team in three straight seasons (Texas, 2010; Oklahoma State 2011 and TCU 2012). Iowa State’s Jake Knott grabbed an interception to ice the game with 2:15 remaining. Josh Lenz hit Ernst Brun with a 15-yard pass off a reverse handoff from Jeff Woody that gave Iowa State 30-20 lead with 13:33 remaining in the game. TCU’s Jaden Oberkrom hit his third field goal of the day, from 39 yards to close the gap to 30-23 with 9:51 left in the game. But Irving sealed the deal, making his biggest play as a Cyclone, to give Iowa State 36-23 advantage with 7:51 left in the game.

On its first drive of the second half, Iowa State drove 80 yards on eight plays to score on a 1-yard scoring pass from Jared Barnett to Josh Lenz that gave Iowa State a 23-10 lead with 10:24 left in the third quarter. TCU countered immediately after a big kickoff, driving to set up a Darius Sanders score on a 1-yard run with 8:20 to go in the third quarter to close the gap to 23-17. The difference was narrowed to 23-20 when Jaden Oberkrom hit on a 50-yard field goal with 2:36 left in the third quarter. Jared Barnett, making his first start since the Pinstripe Bowl, went up top early against a TCU defense that was committed to stopping the run. On the game’s fourth play, Barnett hit wide receiver Josh Lenz who raced down the sideline on a 51-yard TD play that put Iowa State ahead 7-0 with 13:48 left in the first quarter. An interception by Jacques Washington, his third this season, led to a 41-yard field goal by Edwin Arceo that put the Cyclones ahead 10-0 at the 9:38 mark of the first quarter. A TCU touchdown closed the gap to 10-7 but Barnett countered with a 74-yard strike down the middle of the field to Lenz and Iowa State led 16-7 as the quarter ended. The 74-yard play was Iowa State’s longest pass play since 2004. Lenz finished with five catches for a career-high 147 yards and three receiving touchdowns. His passing touchdown to Brun was the second of his career. Knott had a game-high 13 tackles and his second interception of the season. In the first half, the senior linebacker became the 14th player in school history to go over the 300-tackle mark.

AMES, Iowa - No. 5 Kansas State held on to defeat No. 25 Iowa State 27-21 at Jack Trice Stadium.

Down six points in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Cyclones had two chances, but both drives fell short on downs. Iowa State (4-2, 1-2 Big 12) hung tough with Kansas State (6-0, 3-0), but the Wildcats and quarterback Collin Klein won the time possession of battle, 40:54-19:06 to remain unbeaten.

Klein ended the game with 105 yards rushing and 187 yards passing.

Iowa State held a 7-3 lead after Jared Barnett found Shontrelle Johnson out of the backfield for a 2-yard touchdown toss. Johnson’s touchdown capped off a 12-play, 58-yard drive for the Cyclones.

The Wildcats answered with a 12-play, 75-yard drive to move ahead 10-7 with 8:18 left in the second quarter. Klein rambled in from two yards out to put the Wildcats out in front.

Both teams then traded turnovers, as KSU’s Tramaine Thompson muffed a punt return and the Cyclones’ Matt Morton recovered at the KSU 19. However, Barnett was picked off on the next play by KSU’s Ty Zimmerman.

The Cyclone defense forced a KSU punt and took advantage of great field position. Barnett found a wide open Ernst Brun, who took it in for the touchdown from 30 yards out to put ISU up 14-10 with 2:10 left before the half.

The Wildcats then quickly answered with a Klein 6-yard touchdown in the final minute of the first half. The run was set up by a Tyler Lockett 45-yard catch to put the Wildcats into ISU territory, as KSU went into halftime with a 17-14 lead.KSU increased its lead to 24-14 when Klein scrambled on a 12-yard touchdown run on 3rd-and-10 with 1:33 left in the third quarter.

ISU answered, though, mounting a 13-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to cut the lead to 24-21 with 12:34 left in the game. Jeff Woody scored on an option to cap off the drive.

KSU tacked on an Anthony Cantele field goal to make it 27-21 KSU with 4:24 remaining.

2012 GAME RECAPS

STILLWATER, Okla. - J.W. Walsh threw for 415 yards and Joseph Randle ran for 151 yards to pace Oklahoma State to a 31-10 win over Iowa State.

Oklahoma State (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) accumulated 625 yards of total offense while Iowa State (4-3, 1-3 Big 12) struggled on offense after scoring all 10 points in the first quarter. The Cyclones finished the game with 341 yards of offense.

Iowa State struck first by mounting a 75-yard touchdown drive on its first series. A 35-yard catch by Quenton Brundage set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Jeff Woody to put the Cyclones up 7-0.

The Cowboys answered behind a 4-yard touchdown run by Randle to tie the game at 7-7. The drive was kept alive on a questionable targeting call on Jacques Washington after the Cowboys failed on a 3rd-and-9.

The Cyclones regained the lead at 10-7 when Edwin Arceo booted a 41-yard field goal. A 42-yard pass play from Jared Barnett to Chris Young, his career-long catch, pushed the Cyclones into Cowboy territory on the drive.

After OSU tied the game at 10-10, the Cowboys moved ahead for the first time after Walsh hit Charlie Moore on a 74-yard touchdown toss to make it 17-10 OSU in the second quarter.

The Cowboys had a chance to add more points, but ISU’s Deon Broomfield stripped Josh Stewart after a catch at the ISU 3-yard line where he recovered it.

The Cowboys increased their lead to 24-10 in the third quarter when Randle scored from 12 yards out, as the Cowboys took advantage of a Barnett interception. Randle rambled for 62 yards later in the fourth quarter to set up another Cowboy touchdown. Walsh scored on a 3-yard run to put OSU out in front 31-10 with 10:09 left in the game.

Barnett had 49 yards rushing and Aaron Horne caught a career-high eight passes for 75 yards to lead the Cyclone offense. Durrell Givens totaled a career-high 12 tackles and forced his second fumble of the season.

Jake Knott had 11 tackles to give him 336 in his career. He moves to No. 6 on Iowa State’s career tackle list.

AMES, Iowa - Steele Jantz tied school records for completions (36) and touchdown tosses (5) to help Iowa State (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) win its Homecoming match-up vs. Baylor (3-4, 0-4 Big 12), 35-21 Saturday night in Jack Trice Stadium.

Jantz was on target all night, finding 10 different receivers for a career-high 381 passing yards. His 381 yards through the air is the fifth-best total in school history and his 36-of-52 performance ties ISU’s completion mark with Austen Arnaud.

Jantz connected with Jarvis West three times for touchdowns, as West had seven catches for 99 yards. Jantz’ five touchdown tosses equals Todd Bandhauer’s school mark set in 1998 vs. Texas.

The Cyclone offense was in top gear, but the defense also came to play. The high-powered Baylor offense was averaging 48.0 points per game coming into the contest but could only muster 21 points against the stingy Cyclone defense. ISU also forced four turnovers in the victory. The first six minutes of the game had a lot of action with no scoring. The Cyclones tried an on-side kick on the opening kickoff, but it backfired when Edwin Arceo’s kick failed to travel 10 yards. Moments later Baylor was on the verge of scoring, but Jake Knott forced a Nick Florence fumble at the 1-yard line to stop a potential Bear score. It was the 10th forced fumble of Knott’s career.

The Cyclones kept up the pressure in the second quarter. Facing a 4th and 7 at the Baylor 36, the Bears blitzed and Jantz burned them with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Albert Gary to tie the game at 14-14. Iowa State took the lead at the break (21-14) when Jantz hit West for the second time, this time from seven yards out, in the closing seconds of the second quarter.

The Cyclones increased their lead to 28-14 with the only score in the third quarter on a Jeff Woody 8-yard touchdown catch from Jantz. The Bears had a couple of chances to score in the third quarter but the Cyclone defense rose to the occasion. BU had 4th-and-1 at the ISU 18 and opted to go for it, but A.J. Klein and Willie Scott stopped Florence for no gain to take over on downs. ISU stopped the Bears again on downs in the closing moments of the third quarter.

After Durrell Givens recovered another fumble, the Cyclones made it 35-14 when Jantz hit West for the third time on a 22-yard touchdown toss.
