RMTIS RECITATIONS 2012 CLASSI : ENGLISH
How Beautiful the World Is
How beautiful the world is,
How blue the sky above,
How green the grass in the morning dew,
How musical the dove.
Eyes to see the colors bright,
Ears for music of delight,
Nose to smell the fragrant rose,
Skin to feel the breeze that blows.
How beautiful the world is,
How blue the sky above,
God is there in all creation
Flowing forth in light and love.
- Paul King
RMTIS RECITATIONS 2012 CLASS‐II : ENGLISH
The Fly
How large unto the tiny fly Must little things appear!
A rosebud like a feather bed, Its prickle like a spear;
A dewdrop like a looking-glass,
A hair like golden wire; The smallest grain of mustard seed
As fierce coals of fire;
A loaf of bread a lofty hill; A wasp a cruel leopard;
And specks of salt as bright to see As lambkins to a shepherd.
- Walter de la Mare
RMTIS RECITATIONS 2012 CLASS‐III : ENGLISH
A Boy’s Song
Where the pools bright and deep, Where the gray trout lies asleep Up the river, and over the lea,
That’s the way for Billy and me.
Where the blackbird sings the latest, Where the Hawthorne blooms the sweetest,
Where the nestlings chirp and flee, That’s the way for Billy and me.
Where the mowers mow the cleanest, Where the hay lies thick and greenest;
There to trace the homeward bee That’s the way for Billy and me.
Where the hazel bank is steepest,
Where the shadow falls the deepest, Where the clustering nuts fall free, That’s the way for Billy and me.
- James Hogg
RMTIS RECITATIONS 2012 CLASS‐IV : ENGLISH
Brain Boss
I’ve never seen you; we’ve never met you. I cannot hear or touch you, and yet
You’re there in my head, a part of me, Helping me touch, and hear, and see.
You wiggle my fingers and lift my feet, And open my mouth when I want to eat. You make me happy and sad and cross.
There’s no doubt about it - You’re the boss.
You summon my laughter, send out my screams, Think all my thoughts and dream all my dreams, And I can’t keep count of the numbers of time
You’ve given me rhythms and found me rhymes.
So I’m writing this poem, Brain, for you- Though I wonder now if that’s really true.
The more I think, the more I see That it’s you who are writing the poem for me.
- Julia Donaldson
RMTIS RECITATIONS 2012 CLASS‐V : ENGLISH
Look for the Colours of Life
Colours are everywhere, Bright blue the sky,
Dark green the forest And light the fresh grass; Bright yellow the lights
From a train sweeping past, The flame trees glow At this time of year,
The mangoes burn bright As the monsoon draws near.
A favourite colour of mine
Is the pink of the candy-floss man As he comes down the dusty road,
Calling his wares; And the balloon-man soon follows, Selling his floating bright colours.
It’s early summer
And the roses blush In the dew-drenched dawn,
And poppies sway red and white In the invisible breeze.
Only the wind has no colour:
But if you look carefully You will see it teasing
The colour out of the leaves. And the rain has no colour
But it turned the bronzed grass To emerald green,
And gives a golden sheen To the drenched sunflower. Look for the colours of life
They are everywhere, Even in your dreams.
- Ruskin Bond
