TDX™ – The Total Driving eXperience. Merger of mind, body & machine.

It’s just like you told us it should be–five of the mostadvanced technologies brought together to create a TotalDriving eXperience.

In addition to new features and driver controls, MK5 electronics place everything you love about the patented MKIV™ into a more intuitive format. Now the best electronics package in the industry is also the easiest to use.

Center wheel drive offers the tightest turning radius possible, as well as improved tracking and ease of driving over our other configurations.

This patent-pending automatic system ensures thateveryday obstacles and thresholds arehandled elegantly for a smooth ride.

An important issue with more maneuverable chairs is stability, but this patent-pending technology helps ensurethat the chair remains stable, with the consumer in control.

The benefits of TT to switch drivers and those with marginal control have been proven, making theseconsumers more successful and efficient drivers.

TrueTrack Technology (TT) Over the past several years, TT driving technology has been continuously improved tobring a much-needed clinical benefit to those highly involved power chair drivers. Thisdriving technology accurately translates the driver’s commands and helps keep thepower chair on a true forward path– even on slopes, thresholds and uneven terrain.

Features

SureStep® and TCD™ Traction Control DesignFor most custom rehab consumers, a smooth ride is critical to maintaining position-ing, managing pain, controlling spasms and increasing endurance. To optimize shockabsorption during the ride, the frame of the TDX can articulate independently. As thesix wheels encounter variations in terrain, the SureStep suspension system and TCDconform to the landscape, leaving the consumer more stable and comfortable.

See www.invacare.com forcase studies on TT.

MK5™ EX™ Controller

The MK5™ EX controller can accommodate multiple driver inputs

including all existing MKIV™ (5-pin) options. Must use the new MK5display with switches.

MK5™ NX™-80 with SPJ™-80

The MK5™ NX-80 is a non-expandable controller which operates with

an SPJ-80 single drive joystick. Offering the same convenient Speedand Response menu as the MK5 EX controller, the NX-80 is intendedfor joystick drivers.

MK5™ TT-EX™ Controller

The MK5 TT-EX is the only power chair controller in the industry with TrueTrack. When used with the new Heavy-Duty GB™ motors, this controller can sense wheel position, varying thepower to each motor to help ensure straightforward tracking, evenover slopes and obstacles.

MK5™Laptop IVS Software*

MK5 Laptop IVS Software allows you to download program informationinto your computer. When connected to the power wheelchair throughyour computer using the virtual service cable (part #1095204), you areable to view and modify all programming on the chair, all drives at onetime. In addition, you can download the consumer’s drive profiles ontoyour computer. Therefore, you are able to experiment with new drivercontrols and programming modifications while still maintaining theoriginal profile. When finished programming you can print out hardcopies of the programming settings and place in the consumer’s file.

With the MK5 Laptop IVS Software, also available to download online, you can update a power wheelchair’s electronic software directly fromyour computer through flash programming. This is compatible for NX™-80, EX™, and TT-EX™ controllers. The latest Invacare MK5 softwarerevision is now available to download on www.invacare.com throughInvacare Pro.

*More information and instructions are available on the Invacare website through Invacare Pro.Special Notice: Software updates should only be performed by properly trained personnel withknowledge andunderstanding of the software and related Invacare® products. Novices should not perform updates.

New Simplified Programming Features

Speed and ResponseTo aid in the programming of driving parameters, the MK5

™ controller features an overall programming screen. After the opening screen is displayed, the SPEED and RESPONSEparameters will appear. Adjusting SPEED will simultaneously change the values of forward speed, turning speed and reverse speed. Adjusting RESPONSE will simultaneously change the values of acceleration, braking, torque, turn acceleration, turn deceleration and turning speed.

Now adjusting the driving performance of a chair is as easy as using one screen.

Turn Acceleration Same as MKIV™ “Sensitivity”– the time it takes to ramp up to turning speed.

Turn DecelerationThe time it takes to decelerate from a turn when the joystick is returned to neutral.

Axes Selection by DriveCan be set globally or individually in each drive to allow for customization of the directional control.

Fault Log DescriptionsDetailed messages permit easier troubleshooting.

Global/By DriveEnables all values listed in performance adjustments below torque to become globalparameters; useful when calibrating the joystick or using standby functions. “By Drive” is the default setting for the MK5 controller.

Valuable Diagnostic ToolsCurrent Status has been added to the MK5 controller with a quick summary of the following items:

Now summarizing the status and setup of a chair is simplified–just start with CurrentStatus.

New Programming Features

Standby with Mode SelectionThe user can program the controller to respond to the operating mode selections without using the emergency stop (reset)switch while the standby mode is active. In this mode, the controller will select a new mode (drive, drive selection or ECUselection) when the joystick is moved. The mode will be active when the joystick is returned to neutral.

Forward Command – Return to drivingRight Command – Selects {Drive Select}

(If remote select is not turned on, the right command will have no function)Left Command – Selects powered seating control or ECU mode

Second level of left command will sequence through seat control or through ECU modes if more than one is turned on

Special Cases: The user will have to sequence through programmed activities only. For example, if TRCM is the only thingon, it is the only option with the left command. Also, if only one ECU is active, selecting ECU will enable the ECU andbypass the ECU selection mode.

MK5™ Programming HighlightsMK5 electronics offers the most customizable power chair controls available.

• No driving: When activated, the no-driving mode allows full dedication to analternative activity (e.g., communication, computer access) with no fear of movingthe chair

• Power level: For indoor drive programs, power level can be reduced for beginningor marginal drivers. This ensures that ifthe chair hits an obstruction, it will simply stop

• Attendant options: There are fourattendant options for the MK5 electron-ics: PACM5 proportional attendant con-trol, 1812 dual proportional joystick,ASL504 emergency remote stop and theASL510 wireless digital attendant control

• Joystick throw: Allows proportionaljoysticks to customize the displacementfor full speed range–ideal for those withlimited strength or range

• Axes selection by drive: Directions ofthe driver’s control can be changed, whileleaving the attendant’s in the standardconfiguration

• 2-switch mode: When using a 3-switchsystem like the ASL head array, theTarsys® powered seating systems can beeasily interfaced to work through thedriver control. With 2-switch mode, actu-ator functions can be stored in both theleft and right switch locations, reducingthe number of switch hits by half in orderto operate the powered seating system

• Standby: Allows access to all activitiesusing the same switch system as driving, with no need for a reset switch

• Drive lockout by drive: To balance theneed for consumer safeguards with theneed for flexible programming, the MK5controller allows the degree of lockout to

be set per drive. If a greater angle of tiltor recline is needed for certain drivingmaneuvers (e.g., entering a van), it canbe stored in a matched driving program

• Torque: To ensure that the chair moveswhen a switch or joystick is activated, the torque parameter can be adjustedupwards. High torque with a slow-speeddriving program permits immediateaccess to maximum motor power–a critical element in switch driving

Invacare® Transport Tie Down Options

Invacare transport tie down options have been tested to ANSI/RESNA WC Vol. 1 Section19 and go beyond the traditional “securement” brackets on other wheelchair designs. The transport tie down options include four tie-down locations that have been crash test-ed and are clearly marked for the caregiver to see. The options also include a batterysecurement system that prevents batteries from becoming dislodged in the case of anaccident.

Invacare order forms will include two transport tie down selections, TRRO* and TRBKTS.** All Invacare wheelchairs with TRRO have beentested and passed the ANSI/RESNA WC Vol. 1 Section 19 standard using a specific seating system and configuration. See order forms andthe owners manual for more information.

* TRRO includes four factory-installed transport brackets and a wheelchair anchored pelvic belt. TRRO has been crash-tested in accordance with ANSI/RESNA WC Vol 1 Section 19 Frontal Impact Testrequirements for wheelchairs with a 168 lb. crash dummy, which corresponds to a person with a weight of 114 to 209 lb.

** TRBKTS includes four factory-installed wheelchair transport brackets. TRBKTS has not been crash-tested in accordance with WC 19. Use these transport brackets only to secure an unoccupied wheel-chair during transport.

As of this date, the Department of Transportation has not approved any tie-down systems for transportation of a user while in a wheelchair, in a moving vehicle of any type. It is Invacare’s position thatusers of wheelchairs should be transferred into appropriate seating in vehicles for transportation and use be made of the restraints made available by the auto industry. Invacare cannot and does notrecommend any wheelchair transportation systems.
