CAMERON TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP LEADS TOWELLHEAD ADVANCEMENTS
Cameron has a long history of product innovation, andthe evolution of the subsea wellhead product line is a
prime example of the continuation of this heritage.
Camerons experience in pressure control can be traced
back to 1922 and the introduction of the first BOP.
Other Cameron innovations through the years include
the first subsea wellhead completion, introduction of the
legendary U BOP, the first hydraulic production control
system, the first guidelineless drilling system and the first
free-standing drilling riser.
In the late 1980s, Cameron introduced two new wellhead
system designs the STC-10and the STM-15. Since
then, nearly 1000 STC-10 and STM-15 subsea wellhead
systems have been installed successfully throughout
the world.
More advances are on the horizon. As the industry moves
forward, Cameron is here with the latest technology.

STM/STC SUBSEA WELLHEAD-TO-CONDUCTOR HOUSINGLOCKDOWN OPTIONS
The STC-10 wellhead has a similar passive lockdown mechanism which provides a 1.5 MM ft-lb bending capacity and 0.5 MM lb
tensile capacity.
STM-15 Type DW5 and XL5 wellheads are available with an active pre-loaded option using a mechanical lockdown tool. The two
housings are pre-loaded together using this mechanical tool resulting in a 2 MM lb pre-load which increases the bending capacity
to 5.25 MM ft-lb with a 3 MM lb tensile capacity.
The STM-15 Type XL7 is an active pre-loaded wellhead design with a 30 O.D. high-pressure housing which delivers 7 MM ft-lb
bending capacity and 5 MM lb tensile capacity.

STC-10 Compact Subsea
Wellhead System
The STC-10 Compact Wellhead System is a popular choice for
low-pressure wells up to 10,000 psi WP and moderate well
depths. Simplicity and attractive pricing make the STC-10
wellhead system a cost-effective choice.
The STC-10 wellhead system uses Camerons metal-end cap
(MEC) seal. This elastomeric sealing element is rated a full
10,000 psi WP and made of proprietary CAMLAST
elastomer which is rated for temperatures up to 250oF
(121o C). It is resistant to H2S, CO
2, chlorides, diesel fluid and
oil- or water-based amine corrosion inhibitors. Stainless
steel caps on the upper and lower surfaces of the elastomer
reduce extrusion limit exposure of the elastomers tocorrosive well fluids and discourage roll off during
installation. The MEC seal is highly tolerant to seal area
damage and will often seal when other types of seals will
not. The seal is radially energized and requires less energy
to set than other seals.

Casing Hanger Seal Assembly
Running Tools for STM Subsea
Wellhead Systems
Casing Hanger Seal Assembly Running Tools (CHSARTs) are
single-trip tools that allow installation of the casing hanger
and PBM metal-to-metal seal assembly in a single trip.
Cameron offers these tools in a variety of load capacities and
sizes for all of our wellhead systems.
There are three tools available for the 18-3/4 15,000 psi WP
wellhead systems depending on the load requirement:
1 MM lb, 1.5 MM lb, and a special high-capacity tool for the
first position hanger which provides 2 MM lb load capacity.
These tools are installed in the casing hanger using left-hand
makeup and right-hand release. Unlike standard systems,
which set the seal by closing the BOP rams on the running
string and pressuring the annulus, Camerons CHSARTs use
pressure down the drillpipe to hydraulically set the seal.
Annulus pressure is used only to test the seal. This hydraulic
system generates 200,000 lb of force to set the seal and only
requires 3500 psi fluid pressure through the drillpipe.
Single-trip tools are also available for the XL5 wellhead
system for the 16 and 18 casing strings and for the DW5
wellhead system 16 casing string. A 13 CHSART is
available for the DW5/XL5 slimline drill-through
conversion system.

High-Capacity Running
Tools for STM-15 Subsea
Wellhead Systems
STM wellhead systems help reduce drilling costs
by eliminating unnecessary trips while providing
advanced pressure control technology with advanced,
trip-reducing, high-capacity running tools.
Camerons Drill Ahead Tool (DAT) allows for jetting in
the conductor, releasing the single-piece 1 MM lb load
capacity center stem and drilling ahead for the next
casing string. The tool permits a two-foot pickup of
the BHA without releasing the tool from the wellhead,
has a 6-5/8 standard top connection and drifts
10 collars.
Tools for running and handling the low- and
high-pressure wellhead housings are standard.
Camerons Mechanical Lockdown Tool (MLT) delivers a
2 MM lb mechanical pre-load between the low- and
high-pressure housings with a single 180,000 lb over-
pull, after running and landing the high-pressure
housing and 20/22 casing.

Optional Trip-SavingRunning Tools
Bit or BHA-run wear bushings and wear sleeves are available for
all of Camerons wellhead systems, in addition to three BOP test
tools to cover all situations for testing the BOP stack.
There are special tools for running the primary seal, secondary
seal and emergency seal assemblies separately from the hanger,
along with mill and flush tools to clean debris from the seal
area for all casing hangers.
Stabilizer and Running Adapters
STM Parallel Bore
Metal-to-Metal (PBM) Seal
The PBM seal is used for casing hangers in the 18-3/4 15,000 psWP high-pressure housing and is interchangeable on all hangers
in the wellhead from 13-3/8 down to 7. It is radially engaged,
bi-directional and provides constant contact pressure on inner
and outer sealing surfaces. The PBM seal is designed for a
parallel sealing surface. It provides equal seal protection from
pressures above or below. Camerons parallel bore seal design
allows for vertical movement of the seal without affecting
seal integrity. During laboratory testing, the seal assembly was
moved as much as 1/4 while maintaining full test pressure of
15,000 psi. PBM seals are rated for continuous operation in
temperatures up to 350
o
F (177
o
C ) and can be used in H2Senvironments.
The PBM seal assembly and high-pressure housing design
provides for two additional contingency seals: an optional
elastomeric seal and a standard metal-to-metal secondary seal
that uses a protected, recessed area in the housing bore. The
lockdown feature for the seal to the wellhead has been physi-
cally tested to more than 1 MM lb at Camerons Technology
Development Center in Houston, Texas.
