The measure of the ability of an item to be retained in orrestored to specified condition when maintenance is performed bypersonnel having specified skill levels, using prescribed proceduresand resources, at each prescribed level of maintenance and repair[MIL-STD21C].

Dependability with respect to prevention of deliberate hostileactions.

❑ Security is often used in relation to information and computersystems. In this context, security may be defined as“dependability with respect to prevention of unauthorizedaccess to and/or handling of information” [Laprie 1992].

(Item state during a mission includes thecombined effects of the mission-related system R& M parametersbut excludes non-mission time) [MIL-STD 721C]
