HERE it is - round two of 2012!Weve made a few changes yet again.

As youve already noticed, weve bumped it up to a nifty A4 format which allows us to chuck a few more words in here andthere, and lets us get those nice pretty pictures big enough for you to actually see.

As well as this, now you can t it in nicely with your books and all your study gear. Yes, we believe you study. Well play along. Aslong as you read this. If you dont read the Interp, well tell on you.

Well tell mummy and daddy you dont actually study, and you live for Cheekys, DK, UniBar and the Dirty Box.Then theyll cut you off, and you wont have the dollars to blow at said nights out, and you cant impress that girl youre just

friends with by feeding her $3.50 drinks at the Eddy. But if you read us, well be nice and wont tell.Capic?

Sally SaysER the rst edition of Interp I wasng on a dream. People were readingublication, more contributors wanted

me on board. We were absolutely ecstatic to gete extremely positive feedback fromssue as a whole.nd I too, on mySally Says column.dmittedly, the great comments alle from friends so deep down I knewhey, being the kind and loving

ple they are, were simply trying toe me feel as though I was on the rightand had not embarrassed myself on

pic scale.o for the rst part of last month Imy life in oblivion- thinking I had

rtained the masses and hey maybemanaged to

    hold theattention of

    peoplelong

enough to read everything I had to say.It wasnt until one of my closest friends

said something which made me feel a

little queezy.Sally you know we are not very funny

people.Once I heard this my mind started

ticking over and thinking back I couldntreally remember a time when anyonelaughed out loud at something I had saidor even cracked a smile for that matter.

Generally people were laughing at myexpense.

I walked around for the next weekor so with a feeling of unease- What ifpeople thought I had been trying too hardwith my last column?

I knew I should have gone withsomething more hard hitting and serious-I mean those two expressions really summe up anyway.

And then my worst fears werediscovered.

Sitting down at pres before St. VinniesBall at the Ox, I was chatting with one ofmy guy friends and after the obligatoryhow are you going / what have you beenup to banter, he began ripping into meabout my column.

It was just so fake Sally to be honestI thought you could have done so muchbetter- It was weak.

Still on a high from my positivefeedback I retorted Well what do you

propose I do to make my column morereal? to this he had no response.

While I brushed it off asif it was nothing and

certainly didnt let itdestroy my night, Icouldnt help buthave this naggingfeeling at the backof my brain.

Funnily enough,it was the rstthing I thought of

when I woke up the next morning. It got me to thinking; how do you

respond to criticism graciously and notlet it eat away at you until there is nothingleft?

Here are some simple tips I have learntover the years which may help you getthrough:

Unfortunately while it may be hard tohear at the time most criticism has someelement of truth so try to identify whichareas you think are justied and look atimproving on them

Generally people make criticismsbecause they are trying to help youimprove- while the tone of voice they usemay make you want to cry, do notshedthose tears.

It will just show them that it hasaffected you, which, if the criticism is notwarranted is generally what they are tryingto achieve

On a whole if people are makinga criticism it is not directed at youpersonally rather at something you aredoing so try not to get too upset.

Most importantly if life experience hastaught me anything it is dont sweat thesmall stuff.

I didnt mean to get all philosophicalbut life is seriously too short to tie yourstomach in knots over people criticisingbecause lets face it its going to happenregardless of how perfect you think youmay be.

So with a shaking hand I am signingoff on my second column for Interp..

Just waiting for the next barrage ofcriticism from my friend.

This time though, I think I will take asome of my own advice and hopefully Iwont be waking up in cold sweats everynight after this issue goes to print.

sociate editor Sally Raertycopped a bit of akher rst column, so heres number two on how toal with constructive criticism!

    Take iton board

    Dont getemotional

    Donttake itpersonally

    survived the great Apocalypsync

of 2012. This is her story.IN the lead up to APOCALIPSYNC 2012 the TMs gracedRafters bar and Dining Hall with their ash mob inorder to createawareness for such a huge event.

This got people talking, and rst years anxious to experiencetheir rst Lipsync.

Walking into Rafters bar to be greeted by Quarantine girlsdressed in sperm suits handing out lifesaver lollies. With thetheme being Apocalipsync the theatre/media students deckedout the entry designing the Uni Bar danceoor to be a bunkersafe from zombies.

The night was about leaving the earth in a spaceship and thereason they had the COM130 students performing was becausethey had to choose the entertainment to take on board withthem.

The theme was carried out in every aspect of the night. The night was hosted by Jack OHarra and Felicity Brown

who not only made the night ow, but also demonstrated theirsuperior skills when it comes to entertaining and breaking upthe night with humor partnered with superb acting skills; it reallymade the night complete.

Starting the night with 2 reporters speaking to the crowdlining up, this was directly streamed to already seated crowdinside, not only making the suspensful wait more enjoyable butreally involved the crowd prior to night commencing.

The night was broken up into 2 halves with a nalist beingselected from each half to then ght to the death to determinewho will survive the Apocalypsync.

The break inbetween the two halfs allowed the TMs to reallyshowcase what they had been working so hard for.

The makeup, hair, costumes and acting ability combinedshould have made any TM proud to be a part of the organisingand running of APOCALIPSYNC 2012.

The nal part of the night was deciding upon who was goingto survive the apocalypse.

It was a show down between two groups both who explored

the policital concept of Julia Gillard.A show down between the groups El Mattadore and Cobra. The Cobra came out on top.The night was amazing and every year it gets better and better. The TMs as well as every performer did an amazing job and

my hat goes off to t hem.Its great to see such a huge crowd gathering to support

them. This is denitley one night at uni bar you can be sober for.

    Keeping outthe cold

erps Bec Drummond tells us about howstay warm over the harsh Bathurst winter.the students who are not asnate as those residing in Macquarie

es over-heated dorms, thehness of winter is starting to behroughout not so climate friendlyurst.

Whilst a warm human blanket wouldreferable to most; some of us are notcky.

With this (and the poor uni students) in mind, Ive found some prettyesting ways keep warm in theurst climate over the past two years.fter trying to compose an utterly

strous full body knit in my rst year, ded to the op-shops and found a

quilted onesie, which I rarely took off.I recommend taking a trip to the

second hand shops and try to pick upsome comfy woolies for a small donation.

You may not nd this the mostfashionable way to keep warm walkingaround CSU, but when your dorm matesare walking around with the snifes; youwill be envied.

Bake cookies as much as you can, because using the oven will dry the airand heat up your kitchen.

When the timer goes off, grab yourdoona, make a warm drink and dive intoa warm paradise.

Alternatively, invite your friends aroundto share this sugary wealth and sit as

    closely as you can tosomeone.

You may look like an overly keen bean, but if youre warm, then it is a happysuccess.

Be active!Running Mt. Panorama on a chilly

morning is a bitter thought, however it willimprove your blood circulation and warmup those icy toes.

Being a couch-potato myself, I ndthat walking quickly to my classes withmy bear hat on is effective enough.

Keep your curtains open during theday.

Outside the sun seems to taunt you in

the midst of the Antarctic winds, howeverit will slightly warm your room up toprepare you for the night ahead.

At night, make a nest out of yourpillows, blankets and doona - again, youlook like an absolute idiot but trust mefrom experience, it is incredibly cosy.

Finally, it is important to acknowledgethe alcoholic blanket cherished by moststudents.

It may seem like a better idea to sitin your doona nest with your secondhand ski-suit and animal hat, eating thehundreds of cookies you baked; but I doencourage you to beat the temptation onoccasion.

Dance with your friends and delveinto the sweaty heat of the Bathurst pubs- you may even have the opportunity ofgoing home with a special someone (seeMeg Zimmermans piece on page 30 Ed).

And thus, a human blanket isachieved.

    A fippin greatcircus festival

gglers, contortionists, aerial artists and tumblers all cametown for the Catapult Festival, as third year student, and

stival volunteer co-ordinator Daisy Hodgson found out.eek ve, the Catapult Festival wasin Bathurst at the Bathurst Memorialrtainment Centre (BMEC).he festival only happens every twos and is run by Theatre Media internsgside a festival coordinator.his years coordinator was Petaston.traditional renegade show is an stage where anyone can, at shorte, get up and perform just abouthing.

On the Friday night of the festival, the youth circus troupes were able toshowcase their skills at the last minute toa sold out show in City Hall.

Hosted by lecturer Kate Smith, themerging artists were given the opportunityto perform short acts in a friendly, excitingspace.

We saw Aerialise Circus performtrapeze acts, Warehouse Circus

    perform mat manipulation,Victims of Circumstance

juggle up to eight objectsat a time and many moreamazing skills.

I would consider myselfa circus rookie, so frommy perspective all the

    acts were fantastic,especially when

considering that the performers whereonly teenagers.

The atmosphere within the theatre wasof heightened anticipation and as I lookedaround at all the anxious faces amongstthe audience.

I noticed everyone literally sitting onthe edge of their seats.

During interval I asked audiencemember Jordan Johnstone how hefelt the evening was going. You neverknow what is going to happen next. Theanticipation is killing me, he said.

The Renegade Show closed with aperformance from our very own CSUlecturer, Adam Deusien, and TheatreMedia student Sophie Jones.

The pair performed what they calleda literal dance piece to Adeles hit song,Rolling in the Deep.

This was a perfectsegue into whatturned out to be amassive dance partyafter the show, which

was DJd by TheatreMedia graduate, LyndonFranks.

Overall the night wasa massive successand was thoroughlyenjoyed by Catapult

participants, trainers, volunteers, circusprofessionals and theBathurst public.

I am already lookingforward to the nextCatapult festival in 2014!

Carousel of memoriesOur arts editorAnna Gambrill caught upwith a couple of the Theatre Media studentswho worked on the Catapult Festival, andgot them to share their ups and downs.

    Rose Reedy. 3rdYear TM. Designer.

CATAPULT in the Park was a fantastic day of warm sunshine, spicy chai, hilarious DJ-ing, live circus performances, not tomention the array of sugar-fuelled children competing with oneanother for their parents attention as they juggled; hula hoopedand danced their way to exhaustion.

My most memorable moment of the day would have to bethe hilarious sight of about a dozen children innocently dancingto LMFAOS Sexy And I Know It whilst staging a full-scale battle

to physically bring down the roving entertainment: two CSUstudents performing as clowns.

Cameron Elkin.2ndYear TM. Outdoorevents production manager.

AFTER being involved in Catapult from the beginning, seeingevery element come together; I was taken by the amount ofyoung people doing amazing things.

Companies such aAerialise and The Flying Fruit Flies wereso humbling and inspiring.

Watching teenagers take on so much focus and disciplineto perform dangerous but exciting acts with such exceptionaltechnique was so mesmerising. Lillian Silk. 3rdYear TM.

Design assistant and resident clown.I HAVE never felt so much joy in one room as at the Renegadeshow.

After individual performers showcased their skills, the wholecrowed got up and danced with each other in the big top.

This broke the boundary between participant and performer,it was truly a great example as theatre as a form of culturalaction, being applied to compliment and improve a communityspirit! Really inspiring stuff!

    *

Weve been assured that resident clown is actually a real title. Only in TM!*

Bec Blake.2nd Year TM.Catering assistant and workshop volunteer.MY favourite memory of catapult was the opening night workingin the kitchens with the catering team.

Once the show had nished we all worked together almostin sync of each other on different meals and dishes to feed thehungry crowd.

Every time I entered the room where the audience memberswere all eyes would fall on the platter I was holding to see whatexciting new dish had arrived.

Jane Williamson.2ndYear TM.Catering assistant and stage manager.

ONE of my highlights was attending the Handstands andTumbling workshop.

There were people from a wide range of skill-levels attending.I was worried about being behind everyone else, but I had a great time.

The instructor was incredible, giving a great amount ofattention to anyone who needed it while allowing those whowere condent to take a few extra steps.

    National Radio News cadetship

    applications have opened.

    Current cadet and Interps

    associate editorAlen Delic

tells you about the program.NATIONAL Radio News is more than just an extra curricularactivity; its full-scale cadetship program.

Over two million people listen to NRN every week, and thisis the chance of a lifetime for students to get involved and reacha professional standard of news broadcasting before they evennish their degree.

News editor Rod Bloomeld has been in the radio industryfor most of his life, and he certainly knows what it takes to makeit in the game.

National Radio News itself has a huge reputation within the

industry, and those who hire and re prefer to hire our cadetswhen they can, he said.

A plethora of famous names have passed through the studio, before going on to much bigger and brighter things.

Sports anchor at the ABC, Amanda Shalala, was one of therst to go through the program.

Channel 10 news anchor and former Al-Jazeera journalistHamish MacDonald was another one to pass through thehallowed halls of NRN.

Its not just broadcast journalists either.Current Sydney Morning Herald journalist, Amy McNeilage,

did her time at NRN just last year, before picking up atraineeship at the biggest newspaper in the country.

After 12 months I felt well and truly prepared to walk into aprofessional newsroom and jump straight into the action, MsMcNeilage said.

I cant even image how far behind I would be at this pointhad I not had that experience.

The skills gained in the cadetship are transferrable to almostanywhere in journalism, and this practical head start is whatputs our graduates ahead of any others in the country.

The high level real world experience gained by our cadets, and the other cadetships available as well, including local news,Homepage and Never Talk Politics, makes a huge differencein the competitive journalism job-seeking environment, MrBloomeld said.

Successful cadets will spend the rst few months in amixture of workshops and practical frontline work.

After the initial skills are gained, cadets go on to prepare andpresent news bulletins, with some work now an assessable partof the course.

As Mr Bloomeld revealed in a second-year lecture last term, the intake has now doubled, with 12 cadets taken in t his year.

More students now have the opportunity to get involved inone of the best programs this university has to offer.

To apply, email Rod Bloomeld at [email protected].

au or drop by the local news room between 8am and 4pm,

WHETHER it is the harsh bark of come in spinner, the solemn notes of The Last Post piercing the dawn or simply attending aVeterans parade we all remember our armed forces on ANZAC day in a different way.

However the 25th of April has come under re recently with a government commissioned report taking the view that the holiday

needs to become more culturally sensitive and inclusive to properly represent our multicultural society. The report suggested yobbo behaviour and excessive drinking detracts from the original spirit of the day.We caught up with Nathan Sharpe to nd out his opinion on the matter.

Lest we forgetInterps Patrick Carmodychats withcurrent CSU student and certicate ofservice holder, Nathan Sharpe, aboutthe ideals of ANZAC Day.

What does ANZAC Day mean to you as a member of the

    armed forces?

Being a member of the armed forces, ANZAC Day is veryimportant to me.

It is full of traditions. Before I even joined the defence force I had gone to the dawn

service with my family, and even a couple years, marched with mygrandfather.

ANZAC Day is a day the whole country should be thinkingabout and celebrating the sacrices our defence forces has madethrough out all confrontations over time.

What do you think about recent calls to make the holiday

    more culturally inclusive?

The recent discussion that came about following researchtaking showing that ANZAC Day may offend a multicultural societyis a joke.

I know for a fact the countries like Turkey celebrate ANZACDay with us.

I was tasked with taking an ofcer from the Turkish Armyaround when I was in the Army for ANZAC Day, drink and dinewith him, an escort him to the various ceremonies.

    We celebrated ANZAC Day together.

What do you see as an appropriate way to celebrate ANZAC

    Day?

An appropriate way to celebrate ANZAC Day is to get up, haveyour gun re breakfast, a traditional ANZAC breakfast of rum inyour coffee, and watching or attending a dawn service.

The rest of the day you can celebrate in a form you wish, aslong as youre remembering why your getting the day off, whatpeople have sacriced to allow you to have that beer at the pub.

    Feature Club of the Month:

    RockspoRts

A NEW club has emerged this year with quick popularity as CSUstudents discover the world of rock climbing.

Unconventional as it may be the club has been rising rapidlyin popularity since club day taking members from those afraid ofheights to Spidermans siblings.

It isnt skill however that is the most important thing, asjoining the club gives CSU students the ability to learn how toclimb and the oh so handy safety techniques required, as wellproviding the opportunity for the members to become quite thesocial butteries.

Investing in a ton of new equipment the club has the bestopportunity for success in teaching their newbies how to climbup the most difcult of climbs.

Rock Sports takes their members to exciting placesorganising trips to caves near Orange, Tarretta and ClarenceDam near Lithgow where they can also abseil, swim and use aying fox strung up above the dam.

As a new club does they have been organising fun events toget the club rolling which have ended in the club climbing crateson top of Mount Panorama.

Theyve also planned trips to team up with the AustralianSchool of Mountaineering, where they will go on two-day trips toparts of the picturesque Blue Mountains.

As a new club their aim is to get their name out there andhopefully gain sponsorship, which will hopefully get them to Unigames in the next few years.

If you wish to join the club, they love having new members, regardless of skill, feel free to join the Facebook Page andcontact Tim Olney on 0425 241 616.

Combining the best of netball, touchfootball and american football, ultimatefrisbee is a highly athletic and fast-pacedsport.

Being a self-refereed game makes thegame interesting and also encouragesthe players to rely upon the spirit of thegame which places the responsibility forfair play on every player.

The game is played on a eld 100mlong, split up between two 18m endzones and a 64m playing eld in themiddle that is 37m wide.

It is played to either a 90-minute timelimit or a point cap, depending on thetournament.

    Eastern

    UniversityGamess almost the Olympics, but

even Marty Gray can win a medal.THE 2012 Eastern University Games arebeing held in Tamworth this year.

A total of 2,000 students will headto Tamworth from the 1st-5th of July tocompete in a wide range of male, female, mixed, single and team played sports.

Students will come from 12 universi-ties and TAFEs across NSW and the ACT.

CSU Bathurst will be sending teams ina variety of the sports available for bothsocial and serious players.

Last year, the CSU Moos lawn bowlsclub, took three teams to the EUGs withone team achieving silver.

From there, the Moos went on to theAustralian University Games, and won thegold.

EUGs is a great opportunity to havefun with your mates, get to know studentsfrom other universities, oh and play a bitof sport on the side.o to http://www.unisport.com.au/Events/EUG/ if you want to be like these kids.

FOR those of you who overindulged in thechocolate Easter eggs during the breakand are now feeling so guilty you arestarting to get back into the gym.

    I have a little word of warning for you;

beware of the drug known as exercise. While we are constantly bombarded

with facts about the current obesityepidemic which is gripping much of thenation a small portion of the populationis currently sitting on the other end of thescale, which is equally as damaging.

These peopl e are sufferin g from acondition known as gymorexia.

Now I know this may sound like a jokebut this is an actual disorder which has theability to take over peoples lives.

Sufferers push their gym work outs tothe extreme and will often train seven daysa week and sometimes twice a day.

It is believed that this disorder hassprung from the strong tness culturepresent in todays society coupled with theincreasing pressure for males in particularto become lean mean ghting machines.

Little do these gym obsessed endsknow that over training is the worstpossible thing you can do if your trying toget results.

In fact according to Steve Marinakisfrom Spartan Training Systems, withoutadequate rest and recovery you canactually go backwards in your quest totone and shape your body.

Sally Raertyhas a word of warning. Be wary of...

GymorexiaThe issue of gymorexia i s more

widespread than you may think with recentestimates suggesting that at least 20 percent of gym goers suffer from some form ofexercise dependency and when they dont

get their daily hit they become despondentand can often become moody, grumpy andirritated.

Sports and exercise psychologist,Jeremy Adams, said if sufferers miss evenone session they will often have genuineconcerns about getting fat or believe theywill immediately loose their tness.

Some psychologists suggest thatsimilarly to anorexia this disorder relateslargely to control, in that you can limit thenumber of endorphins being released inyour body.

This in t urn makes it a difcult c ycle tobreak for sufferers.

While gymorexia is a legitimate concernfor those suffering at the end of the daythere much worse things that you could beaddicted to.

I mean, I am a self-confessed gymjunkie and I g ure at least Im not goi ngand shooting up heroin every day of theweek.

So next time you see someone pumpingit out at the gym it may not be becausethey love health and tness rather they are

just a junki e striving for that next endorphinhit.

Interp movie reviewswith Shaun Heenan of

THIS is either the fourth or theeighthAmerican Pie movie, depending on who you ask.

Its not the worst of them.American Pie redened the teensex comedy genre for a newgeneration.

American Pie 2 was abeautiful expression of teenagerebellion and independence, or

at least it seemed that way whenI was fourteen.

    American Weddingwas aclown show.

The characters are ten yearsolder, though most of the actorsdont actually look it.

I suppose most of them havebeen free from the age-inducingstress of appearing in lms formost of the last decade.

Jim and Michelle now have atwo-year-old son, and the sparkis starting to disappear from theirmarriage.

    Oz is a famous sportsbroadcaster.

Kevin is married to a womanwho is not Vicky.

Finch is a seasoned traveller.Stier is still Stier.

The class of 99 is having areunion, and the boys decide toget together for the week leadingup to it to relive old times.

Wacky hijinks ensue.Jims main plot thread follows

Kara, the girl he used to babysit, who is turning eighteen and hasgrown up physically enough to

be a temptation for him.Her boyfriend is the

same kind of unexplainableoverbearing idiot that movie-boyfriends so often are.

His comeuppance is oneof the movies funnier, moreelaborate scenes.

Not funny enough that Ilaughed at it, but funny enough

to earn a lopsided grin.Im sorry to report that I

spent the vast majority of the lmnot laughing.

Thats a bit of a crimeconsidering the genre.

The comedic set-pieces theseries is famous for are present, but none of them ever quitereach the level of mania thatmade the rst two movies work.

The movie pretends that itwants to get nostalgic, whichcould have been interesting, butthe quality of the writing just isntup to the task.

Stier delivers precisely onegood line, right at the end, whichis one more than most peopleget.

Almost every singlecharacter from the rst threemovies makes at least a briefappearance, including the ever-present parents.

Stiers Mom has becomeiconic, but Jims Dad is the onlycharacter to have appeared in allof the direct-to-video AmericanPie Presents movies.

2 0 1 2VE probably stumbled across somesome online announcements this

th, but dont get your hopes up,re probably just part of the manye hoaxes which happened as part offools day this year.oogle has never been a stranger tog off some elaborate and very cooles. In previous years the internet

ch giant has introduced 3D browsing

to their Chrome browser in 2009 and in2010 they launched an animal translatorwhich could be installed on Android smartphones.

Just last year they released a video ofa mime artist able to send an email withgmail through body movements capturedby a webcam.

This year however, theyve denitelyoutdone themselves.

A dragon quest style Google Mapswas announced with an unspecied

release date for the NES, but in themeantime you can go to maps.google.com.au/?t=8 for a pretty cool way ofgetting directions.

Google also announced thedeployment of more than a thousand bigred kangaroos in the Australian outbackas part of Google Street Roo.

The kangaroos will be equipped with360 degree head cameras featuring stateof the art software to smooth over thebouncing effect created by the kangaroosgiant stride.

Google said they hoped 98% of theoutback will be captured over the nextthree years.

But the one that really took thecake this year was the new extensionannounced by Google for their browserChrome.

Its called multitask mode and allowsthe user to use two mice at once. Youcan learn more by going to google.com/chrome/multitask.

This year one of the prank productsmight actually see the light of day.

A web browser add-on called AdBlock, which is the most popular add-onfor the Google Chrome browser, lets you

block advertisements on all web pages. But creator Michael McDonald

decided to have a bit of fun for April foolsday; instead of hiding the ads, the add-onreplaced the advertisements with picturesof cats.

McDonald aptly named the extensionCatblock, and by popular demand haseven left it in place for a few more days.

You can read more about Catblock atadblockforchrome.blogspot.com.au

However, all these hoaxesleave me wondering, what if a companytried to release a serious product on Aprilfools day?

    ulian Rifkin

That makes his actor EugeneLevy either an incredibly goodsport or desperate.

He seemed to be havingfun there, and hes still havingfun here. If you missed the fournon-cinema sequels, dont worry you really didnt miss much.

Large sections of the movieare direct references to theoriginal, so its a little surprisingthe titular pie doesnt make anencore.

I suppose AmericanSaucepan Lid would be goingtoo far.

That scene shows JasonBiggs is also a good sport.

All told,American Pie:Reunion does exactly what itsays in the title: it brings back a

bunch of characters we haventseen since we were kids.

Its a little bit like Toy Story 3,but with more dick jokes.

Its a little bit like,Toy Story 3, but

    with more dick jokes.
