International Student Orientation Winter Quarter 2018

Where do I go on January 2? Main Dining Room in PUB (9000 building) Room 9215 at 8:00 a.m. A map is available at www.shoreline.edu/map/campus-map.aspx or on Page 10 of this program.

What do I need to bring to Orientation? 1. Passport 2. Current U.S. Address and Phone Number (hotel or other temporary address is OK) 3. $20.00 USD in Cash for Math Placement Test

President’s Address and Campus Life The President of Shoreline Community College, Dr. Cheryl Roberts, will welcome all new students. You will also meet the Associated Student Government president and learn more about getting involved and having fun on campus!

9:30-10:15 9215 (Main Dining Room)

Immigration Session All students must be present to receive important information on maintaining their F-1 student status in the U.S.

10:15-11:00 Meet in 9215 (Main Dining Room)

IPM Social Meet the International Peer Mentors, who will give you student information on life in Seattle (restaurants, transportation, and more)!

11:00-11:30 9215 (Main Dining Room)

Housing & Homestay Sessions Please choose a session to meet your homestay agency or learn more about renting an apartment. Homestay: ABODE will be on campus to give you more information about your homestay. Housing: International Education staff and current students will give you more information about renting apartments, finding shared housing, and more.

U.S. Health Care Session Learn how U.S. health care works and how to use your medical insurance during sickness or injury. This session will explain how the Firebird International Insurance Plan works.

Campus Tour & Campus Resources IPMs will take you on a tour around campus, where you will meet some important departments such as Tutoring, Bookstore, and Counseling.

English Testers: Test Results and ESL Advising You will receive the results of your English test and meet with ESL faculty.

E1 and E2: Registration Information and Mandarin Session If you had an Academic Seminar with advisors on Tuesday, you will receive your registration assignment today. Mandarin-speakers must attend the Mandarin Session to learn about additional resources available.

3:00-3:30 Meet in 9215 (Main Dining Room)

All Students: Scavenger Hunt Test your knowledge of campus with the IPMs and volunteers. Winning team gets prizes!

3:30-4:30 Meet in 9215 (Main Dining Room)

High School Completion If you are interested in participating in the High School Completion program here, you must attend this session.

Academic and College Seminars Meet your academic advisor and learn about how to be successful at Shoreline! You will receive important information about class registration during these sessions.

Mandarin Session Mandarin speakers must attend this session to learn about resources available to you.

English Language Placement Test* If you have not yet taken the English Language Placement Test, you must take it today.

Math Placement Test If you would like to take a math class during Fall Quarter, you must take the Math Placement. If you will not be taking a math class during Fall Quarter, you do not need to take this test.

When you are done testing, you are done for today! Please come to International Education tomorrow (Friday) at 1:00 p.m. to meet with advisors and register for classes.

9:00-4:00 (Only attend YOUR session) International Education

Class Registration Sessions You should have received a specific time for class registration on the advisor card that we gave you on Tuesday. Please attend the session you were assigned.

Once you have finished registering for classes, you are done!

Advising Walk-ins will take place in the International Education

department (9302, top floor of the PUB building) at the following times:

Monday, January 8 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 9 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, January 10 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4:00 p.m.

All students are welcome to stop by during those times if you have short questions that you need answered during the first week of Winter Quarter.

Explore Seattle: All Students Are Welcome!

9:00-4:30 PUB Lobby (9000 Building)

The IPMs and Orientation Volunteers will take you to multiple sightseeing locations

to showcase the beautiful Emerald City – Seattle! We will stop near the University

of Washington, downtown Seattle and other locations if time and weather permit.

Space is limited. Free Seattle Trip tickets will be available on a first-come, first-

serve basis on Day 1 and 2 of Orientation. Talk to an IPM to get one!

Bring money for lunch ($15-20 in cash recommended)

Bring money for shopping if desired

Dress warmly and wear good shoes for walking

Bring an umbrella if necessary

Step 2: Type your Student ID Number and PIN:

Step 3: You will be provided with your username and email address, and you can reset

your password. Step 4: Log in to your Shoreline email account by going to the website:

www.go.shoreline.edu

Set up your Shoreline Email Address!

Check your Shoreline email account every day. Your instructors, advisors, International Education department, and others will

only email you through your Shoreline email address.

Student ID number (your 965-XX-XXXX number)

PIN (your birth date in MMDDYY. For example: March 25, 1999 is 032599)
